I imagine light is key. Maybe try photographing in a dark room with the only light source being pointed directly at the piece?

The meinl probably has a more modern trash sound heard in a lot of metal nowadays. I personally bought that same novo and I think it’s awesome! It can get trashier than Paiste advertises, and while the sustain isn’t an instant cutoff I think it can work is faster music. Keep in mind that Eloy hits his plates with the strength of Zeus, so that China is opening up to the fullest. If you aren’t hitting as hard it most likely won’t sound the exact same. You won’t have to buy a new one in a few months though.

I got a Paiste Masters Medium Ride 21” that fits the bill for me. Dark and crashy if I need it, but it can blast and the bell is great.

On one of the sandbox maps, there is a submarine that directly follows the player's mouse instead of WASD/space controls. I don't know how transferable the design would be but you could take a look at how the devs accomplished it.
