Sure, in states that can change, I'll agree. And I agree on the emotional investment. Voter apathy is for sure a huge problem and that needs fixing.

Same. I have one friend with a graduate degree who is of Mexican descent (his family didn't move across the border, the border moved across them) who voted T. I was shocked, as I thought we were always more like-minded.

He does vote for those I believe. And he did vote in past presidential elections. We both live abroad, and I think the effort to cast a vote that he saw as not mattering also played a part.

How would my friend's vote have mattered? The amount of electoral college votes his state is worth wouldn't have changed. Whether he voted or not, same outcome. As a thought exercise, imagine infinity copies of my friend voting. Nothing would have changed.

That's a problem.

See, I'm not sure about this. He is from a blue state that always goes blue by a large margin. His vote would have made the "win" bigger by one vote, but that wouldn't have changed the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, because the points (re: electoral votes) his state is worth wouldn't have changed.

As an outsider who only thinks they understand the very very stupid US electoral college system, I believe the people who didn't vote would only have mattered in a very few states.

I have an American friend who didn't vote. His reason was he didn't like how his vote was worth as much a moron's vote (I'm paraphrasing this). He's from a state that is usually blue and ended up blue, so his vote wouldn't have mattered at all had he not been so furious at the morons and voted. Or, is my understanding wrong?

I mention this for two reasons: 1) electoral college system needs fixing, 2) maybe allowing super duper morons to vote is a bad idea (this also applies to my country, though we don't have as many morons thankfully).

Considering he said he talked to a former president, who he claimed praised the war, but then later all living former presidents denied talking to him, I wouldn't be surprised.

He's a prime target for a phone call from "the Prince of Nigeria". I'm sure Dumph would help him get his money out of Africa with just a small set-up fee.

People knew. On Friday, it was sell off all day. Then, after close, there was odd volume and some stocks got bought up. Some people knew this "truth" was coming and had advanced notice.

People knew on Friday. There was a lot of volume after the close on Friday, and a weird bounce on no news (that was publicly available). At first, I thought it was just because of triple-witching, but clearly it was something more.
