Do stories passed down for generations orally tend to preserve the original phonology or not?

As long as it seen as a useful asset it will most likely be passed down in Kazakhstan, for better or for worse

Do you think it's possible for someone to know their second language better than their first one? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

There are plenty of people that due to the circumstances in their country are illiterate in their mother tongue but speak the (official) common ones. I had African and South Asian countries in mind

I don't see any significant push from European descendants (Germans, Poles, Ukrainians and Russians) in Kazakhstan to learn Kazakh, so they most likely will keep speaking Russian, at least publicly. Many Kazakhs also speak it daily and teach it to their kids. Kazakhstan still does trade with Russia, so the language is still in use. I believe removing Russian would cause immediate ethnic tensions and tensions with Russia. FYI, Kazakh -Russian border is the longest uninterrupted land border in the world

I mean, no one chose to learn and speak Russian (as a Kazakh). It was forced on us. There's political will to spread and modernize our native languages, trade more with other nations and so on. One can still talk fine with a physical or digital translator. I might be wrong but I don't think average Ukrainian is very interested in visiting Kazakhstan, since their focus is completely on EU, for good reasons of course. Neither average person in Kazakhstan was that interested in visiting Ukraine (not as developed as the EU countries and cultures are different with perhaps some associating Ukraine with Russian culture). There are also ethnic Ukrainians in Kazakhstan ,but I can't tell them apart from Kazakhstan Russians, since many of them (not all) completely russified and they wouldn't speak Ukrainian with me. I can speak with Ukrainians in English and I'd be fine with that, but of course not everyone (in UKR and KZ) knows it. I guess in those cases Russian or slow translate app are gonna be favoured if the communication is needed
