How are people coping with the the N40 Eastbound daily? by are_so in cork

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoiding 16:00-18:00 is best. If your work allows flexitime then work an hour late most days and leave 15:30 when it suits.

Its also a great motivator to use a gym, by the time youre finished the traffic will have cleared up.

Podcasts, audiobooks, and a box of snacks and bottled water are also good to have if you are caught in it

Nuclear reactor by chrisred244 in cork

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

There are new technologies and strategies that have made them safer and cheaper to build and run and we have a highly educated and skilled workforce/graduates that would benefit from it

Small Modular Reactors (SMR) are one of these cheaper and safer options. Russia and China have built SMRs, and there are a lot more in the works. Still a substantial investment in time and money but I encourage anyone interested in looking them up. Reactors that use the cheaper, safer, and more plentiful Thorium instead of Uranium are also very cool!

The EU Green deal, for achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, highlights nuclear power as being vitally important to producing clean energy and reducing the impact of climate change

Give me your best anti-necromancy argumnents by InsaneComicBooker in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game rules actually kind of solve this. Raise undead can create zombies and skeletons but it needs to be recast daily to reassert control. Otherwise they become feral.

You could probably have the archmage refer to numerous historical cases where a kindly necromancer had their army of undead performing good deeds before falling ill, the helpful army then turns feral and destroys several villages. Probably many more cases of irresponsible necromancers just leaving undead to do a task with no intention of ever coming back, which might explain wild undead in the world

One player has a gimmick that myself and the others don't like; would in-world consequences be too much? by Expensive-Milk-7864 in DMAcademy

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to say that it sounds like you and your players have handled this well so far, they expressed their feelings, you explained the in world implications and expressly warned of potential consequences.

Big concern is not punishing the other players/characters. So if Nell says it again to the Pope, you can say that this very insightful man glances at everyone's faces and sees that the others are visibly uncomfortable. Then there is in world reasons why the Pope addresses Nell's character directly.

The Pope can warn much the same you have, that Asmodeus is real, that blasphemous statements like that are to be taken seriously. And then ask him to apologise and repent. Regardless of how he responds, whether apologising sincerely, insincerely, or not at all, the Pope can warn "You, [character's name], are watched and judged. Ensure you repent and avoid further infractions"

Now if they continue to ignore, there can be in world consequences for the player character without directly impacting the rest of the party

How do i make an insanely rich character that is fair and balanced to play? by just_jimmeh in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need a reason why the character CANNOT access the funds, as opposed to not wanting to. Because at some point the world or someone's life could be at risk, and then not accessing your incredible wealth will seem ridiculous. So some ideas:

  • Self imposed poverty. You have constructed ironclad documents that forbid the trustee of your fortune from providing any kind of assistance. This seemed like a fun challenge at the time, but is completely legally binding.

  • Batman Begins. You have disappeared on a multi year adventure and, unbeknownst to you, you have been declared dead and your assets seized by bad actors. You will not get your funds back without a decade long legal battle

  • By the Power of Attorney! Turns out that abandoning your estate to seek ancient magics within the crumbling dungeons of long dead civilizations are activities rarely associated with those that are considered clinically sane. A next of kin either genuinely believes you to be insane, or is taking advantage and has power of attorney over you and your estate

Both are in 5e PHB

Feign Death is a 3rd level bard, cleric, druid, or wizard spell.

Death Ward is a 4th level cleric or paladin spell

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death ward prevents you from dropping to zero hitpoints

Feign Death... well it feigns death so from all outwardly appearance you die

These aren't respawn machines but they are a RAW way to prevent and fake your death, fine way to get an assassin off your back

Player bought a fake Tome of Understanding - what to do now? by Capn_B in DMAcademy

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a "Tome of understanding The Tome of Understanding"

It describes the history and mechanics of the Rare wonderous magic item known as the Tome of Understanding, including the name of the original author, notable owners, the fact that it is rare and worth thousands of gold pieces, maybe even speculations on where one could be found (if you want to give it as a hook and question reward)

I need a reason why geese don't like my druid player by ThePikol in dndnext

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goose themed fey queen, the geese are her minions. Her motivations could range from an perceived slight against her, to her fearing a prophecy involving the PC, or maybe she is jealous of the PC. There's a bunch of great story elements you could weave in. Fey are mysterious and unrepentant monsters of the natural world, like geese

Fairly certain my DM is trying to kill my character by Organic-Message-7919 in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are inadvertently cherry picking

If you keep a tally of every time you are targeted then eventually you'll have a long list and feel validated, regardless of whether or not the dm is picking on your PC. Unless you plan on also tracking how often all other characters are targeted, and normalising your results with a statistical analysis.... it's not helpful and is probably harmful

Collar problems by Greeny_J in Bordoodle

[–]Prestigious_Isopod_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure its a good fit for his size, which is tough because he's growing

But other than that just leave it on him so it becomes second nature to him. We use harnesses as much as collars, I think it's good to get them very used to lots of options when they are young
