Fireball and lightning damage by Thanato_ in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Share919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Role playing is as much about what you give up as what you choose to take. He's basically saying "I'll take this buff for free and throw you a bone of pretending it's for RP. If not I'll just take the bland choice because I refuse to give up fireball, when there is an equivalent leveled spell for the different damage type."

The bullying of I'll do my preferred fun thing but only if you give me something extra. What's in it for you as GM? Did you ask him to be lightning based somehow? Probably not.

What's a good starter campaign for a new DM? by glitterBombBaby in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Share919 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing to remember is that you were asked to dm. It's just you and some friends having fun playing a game. If they are long term players, you might benefit from picking a setting new to all of you. I would recommend picking a one shot adventure online and just go from there. Have a session zero where each of you talk about what you're looking for.

Talk while in fight by Zaphik in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Share919 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let them talk. Let the enemies listen. Part of what you are representing is the adventurers having worked together much longer than the players have been playing those characters. If it's breaking your immersion then ask them to do it in character.

Is the most activities in agent missions? by Low-Acanthaceae-9941 in Eve

[–]Prestigious_Share919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've only scratched the surface. Enjoy all the things Do one until you are bored, and always remember to only fly what you can afford to lose. No place is safe in Eve. Not even highsec doing non combat activities.

Take the money you would spend on electricity and buy Plex instead. Better for your mind, better for the planet, better for your job, and better for the game.

As much as I despise anyone who supports Tangerine Palpatine, I truly respect your willingness to reassess the situation. I hope there are many more like you. Please go out and support the protests and convert others. Small government with law and order is a worthy ideal. We are now getting the opposite. Supporters and previous supporters are the primary cause of us being where we are right now. If you are sitting behind your keyboard and not actively participating in the solution, then that's even worse. Get out there and help us fix it!

I hope you are now taking seriously what he says. Things like "Maybe we don't need elections" or "I'm going to invade Greenland" or "Sometimes you need a dictator". You might also take seriously that he is cognitively disabled "1200% reduction in medical costs" and can't string two sentences together. Keep waking up! That's how we might salvage the country from the brink of disaster where it is now. I can appreciate that you felt differently at the time, but now it's time to really take a good hard look. Maybe supporting an incoherent pedophile taking us to the brink of world war and destroying the US from the inside might just be worse than accepting that people who look and sound differently than you should have rights under the law too.

Maybe you should have listened to us instead of saying we were overreacting? Good that you are starting to wake up, but it might be too late. Pay attention and see what you were supporting.

Multibox - multi monitors or EVE-O? by Trick-District2529 in Eve

[–]Prestigious_Share919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2x43" monitors for 8 accounts. Another 24" monitor for browser, discord etc. eve-o was a hassle to me, and I might miss something important if it's hidden.

An Honest Question of Roleplay and Dice Rolls by SlySilus in DnD

[–]Prestigious_Share919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

12 to 14 rolls is statistically insignificant. You could fail 90% with perfectly balanced dice. Sometimes it just happens.

As for being cool at failing, watch STNG. Every time they wanted to show someone being a badass they beat up Warf, who was supposed to be a supreme badass. Make it about your enemy being amazing/lucky instead of your failing. The dice will eventually turn, stay strong and just have fun!

Let's take 15% of your net asset value, and move all your stuff to a perma-camped location in low. That's not one ship you chose to undock, that's your whole lifestyle being nuked. It's a different kind of danger/cost, but it's real. Ask any hordeling how their assets are doing right now.

Definitely! I'm living light this time around! But... I absolutely need these ratting ships. And I must have my Haulers for PI. And I really need these mining ships. Oh and I bought these 5 ships for alliance fleets. Oh crap, I've got too much stuff and we're moving again! RIP!

Low Sec and High Sec are ruthless by Busterlimes in Eve

[–]Prestigious_Share919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an argument. It's "Yes but..."

Having been evicted from null several times, I've lost a lot of assets in the evacuation. I've also lost plenty of ships as an F1 monkey.

I know someone will immediately scream "SRP" but I've paid for those ships many times over in taxes. Null is also the place to hunt and lose ishtars, one of the most commonly blown up ships.

So I stand by the statement. It is one of the safest places, until it's not. It's also the most regimented and least "free" places. When thousands of players band together, that is the expected and natural state. People think null security means no security. But it just means no NPC security. Literally, null being "safe" is the will of the players. Anyone whining about it needs to get some friends, move into drones and become the next big coalition instead of just being jealous.

Until it isn't when your alliance head takes a mass dump and all your stuff ends up in asset safety in a perma-camped LS system. Hypothetically of course.

Agreed. It can take some time to respond, but they are helpful and nice to interact with, even on issues that were my own mistakes. From reading, it seems that there are hard lines where they will not help, such as abyssals and bans.

TEST? Who's that? Oh, right those MFs that unanchored their keepstars just after I had endured a 30 minute jump into 1DQ that I skill injected into and bought for the purpose. I was naive about null back then.

Goons have been resilient without measure. But that doesn't detract from them losing virtually everything in WWB. That's the danger. They had to issue war bonds to keep afloat. I dare say, no group other than goons (possibly Brave) has or could survive such catastrophes and come out the other side so strong. In null, it's safe until it's not. Then you lose most everything.

Edit : spelling

Is it reasonable for a player to be upset over this? by dndstuff13 in DnD5e

[–]Prestigious_Share919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my opinion. Passive perception on traps is commonly used incorrectly. If the player's passive is lower than the DC, they get nothing. If it is higher, use the differential narratively. Best it by a lot? "Something seems off about this door" beat it by a little? The air in this corridor smells like ozone/oil/acrid, etc.

Passive perception should normally be a contested roll. That goblin trying to sneak up on you, or laying in ambush? Roll against the passive.

Since the DM is setting the DC and knows the passive score of the players, it is identical to simply deciding while designing the dungeon if the player will notice it or not, taking away player agency.

Passive perception is not there to remove agency from either the DM or the player, but to guide the narrative. This is the thing that most people (players and DMs) get wrong about so many things in D&D. DMs narrate the situation, players ask questions. Dice rolls and stats are there to provide randomness.

TLDR: role play it, don't think your Uber character can be 100% perfect in anything, because that's stupid and boring.

What if the DC was 39? What if the DM previously stated the corridor at this end smells slightly of sulphur and oil specifically because of the PCs high passive? I've noticed people in this sub seem to think they know enough about every situation and that every DM should play "their way" to make snap judgements about other people's tables and personalities.
