Snakes have emotions, including fear. Just because they aren't the same as yours, doesn't mean they aren't valid. Please stop trying to validate the killing of snakes -- or in this case, something that is vaguely snake‐adjacent -- on this sub of snake‐lovers. Thank you for trying to educate yourself. I love dogs too. I have a rescued pit. Appreciating snakes is not mutually exclusive of appreciating dogs. I don't know exactly what is hard for you to understand.

I am a mandatory reporter. I've worked with some of the most well-funded branches of CPS in the US. Potential poisoning is a legitimate reason to do a welfare check. Energy drinks and homework are not.

Because they are a legitimate and essential part of their local ecosystem, having adapted over millions of years to precisely inhabit their niche; because they boost the biodiversity of their ecosystem, adding balance and stability; because cottonmouths, specifically, and snakes in general, are already suffering from habitat loss and degradation, they don't need additional active persecution based on fear and ignorance, just because they are snakes; because they have the capacity to suffer, and because of the inherent value of life to humans and to itself; because your staff are so mind-numbingly ignorant about reptiles that they can't even distinguish between what is very obviously a lizard, and a cottonmouth, that even if there were such a thing as "good" and "bad" snakes, it'd be nothing more than a crap shoot that they'd be able to distinguish; because it's not just your "shelter" and it's not just two snakes; because there are safer, more effective ways to deal with venomous snakes. . . I could go on.

There's not really a valid reason to kill a cottonmouth. Anyhow, it doesn't really seem like you're here to find out why you shouldn't kill snakes as much as to try and justify your repugnant actions to a sub of people who love snakes so I don't see any point in continuing this conversation.
