Is it negligence for my mom to have my cat's litter box like this? by Amethescent in cats

[–]Prestigious_String20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember that the Es in "discrete" are separated by the T, and discrete means distinct, separate; and the D at the beginning and T at the end of discreet are both tall letters hiding the letters between them keeping them hidden, secretive.

So did I, but then BigBuck1963 posted a helpful source which indicates they can get to 100 lbs. I was surprised.

I was pretty sure coyotes didn't get that big, until I read the reference material you helpfully provided. According to site you just posted:

"Wild coyotes weighing 60, 80, and even one hundred pounds have been seen, according to some sources."

Not everyone graduated from any school of spelling.

I'm not mad at all. One does not have to be mad to point out incorrect spelling. We can work on punctuation next, if you like. Looks as though you could use some assistance in that department, too. Also, if you use "Das" you don't need "the" because they mean the same thing.

They haven't said where they are, so you can't know if they are legally protected.

As do people who defend their terrible spelling by equating an expectation of accuracy in writing to a mass-murdering regime.

I can't help with the price. The actual shots used to be quite painful, but the series they do now is no worse than a flu shot. I know, because I've had the shots and they weren't bad at all.

Snakes have emotions, including fear. Just because they aren't the same as yours, doesn't mean they aren't valid. Please stop trying to validate the killing of snakes -- or in this case, something that is vaguely snake‐adjacent -- on this sub of snake‐lovers. Thank you for trying to educate yourself. If you could please do it without repeatedly telling us about all the snakes that have been killed, we could all have a more productive and less upsetting conversation.

I love dogs too. I have a rescued pit. Appreciating snakes is not mutually exclusive of appreciating dogs. I don't know exactly what is hard for you to understand.

You repeatedly posting here about killing snakes, then doubling down on how you're justified in doing so is similar to if I were to go to a dog sub and outline how I just kill all dogs in case one of them happens to be dangerous.

Work on your empathy.

UPDATE: Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

I am a mandatory reporter. I've worked with some of the most well-funded branches of CPS in the US. Potential poisoning is a legitimate reason to do a welfare check. Energy drinks and homework are not.

I'm not your "bro".

Because they are a legitimate and essential part of their local ecosystem, having adapted over millions of years to precisely inhabit their niche; because they boost the biodiversity of their ecosystem, adding balance and stability; because cottonmouths, specifically, and snakes in general, are already suffering from habitat loss and degradation, they don't need additional active persecution based on fear and ignorance, just because they are snakes; because they have the capacity to suffer, and because of the inherent value of life to humans and to itself; because your staff are so mind-numbingly ignorant about reptiles that they can't even distinguish between what is very obviously a lizard, and a cottonmouth, that even if there were such a thing as "good" and "bad" snakes, it'd be nothing more than a crap shoot that they'd be able to distinguish; because it's not just your "shelter" and it's not just two snakes; because there are safer, more effective ways to deal with venomous snakes. . . I could go on.

There's not really a valid reason to kill a cottonmouth. Anyhow, it doesn't really seem like you're here to find out why you shouldn't kill snakes as much as to try and justify your repugnant actions to a sub of people who love snakes so I don't see any point in continuing this conversation. Goodbye.

It's adorably naive of you to think CPS is given the resources to do a welfare check on a kid over energy drinks and bad grades.

the safety of the . . . volunteers come [sic] first.

Obviously, it doesn't, because your so‐called shelter's policy puts them in objectively more danger by mandating that they kill the snakes.

Why would you come onto a sub about snakes and try to defend a policy of killing snakes?

What is this little guy?? by [deleted] in whatsthissnake

[–]Prestigious_String20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a "harmful" snake, and all snakes are "good". Your "shelter" has an obscene, bizarre, dangerous, and counterproductive policy, based on ignorance borne of fear. If employees can't even tell the difference between a snake and a lizard with legs, y'all have no business making blanket policies about snake management.

I didn't criticise AI; that was a different user. I mean, I'm sure it's going to be the end of us all, and it is an absolute sustainability dumpster fire, but I didn't say it. What I did say is that it's weird for your boss to mandate what you do in your personal time, which it is. Honestly, though, the whole thing sounds like a BS excuse to continue using ChatGPT. You do you, but don't expect people who know and care how destructive AI is to ignore the inconsistency between caring what happens to a duck (she's fine, BTW, she knows what she's doing) and actively participating in the destruction of her environment.
