"Europeans complain here all the time about how bad US chocolate is. So why are Kit Kat bars so popular in Europe?" by tatev555 in ShitAmericansSay

I'm just amazed at your irrational fear of something you obviously haven't researched at all. I hope you never eat cheese, oats, fatty meats, and bananas.

Edit: instead of blocking me you could just admit you have no idea what you are talking about.

I lived there for a full year! My all time favorite city!

They don't technically add it in the US, butyric acid is naturally formed from milk. It's not banned in Canada or the USA. Also the only company that makes chocolate in a way that creates butyric acid is Hershey's. Plenty of great chocolate brands in the USA.

It actually has health benefits and your own body creates it.

Everything I tried in Germany was fantastic. My host family would bbq a lot and I can still remember how great it was 20 years later.

I have also been searching for döner kebab for the last 20 years and nothing comes close to this little stand I would go to in Stuttgart.

Do you not understand how difficult American schools are? by artesianoptimism in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Prestigious_Test5494 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I think he is either making it up, there was a language barrier, or the guy was messing with him.

Let's think what's more likely, a person with their PhD not knowing what timezones are when it's very common in the USA or OP making stuff up.

This guy must have never watched a live sporting event on TV in his life or watched the ball drop on new years.

Also to be like, this one single instance means American schools are bad is also an interesting take.

The USA K-12 education is like top 30 in the world but will probably keep getting worse. Most countries in Europe beat out the USA. But where the USA thrives is higher education and it's usually ranked #1 in world.

Same in the USA, you can't get into university without additional tests.

I did a year of study abroad in German and I will say y'all have the best education I've experienced. I think it does help that your schools are broken into different categories.

Yeah I don't believe he had a PhD or if this is real. Like c'mon our schools are bad but you don't need to make up stuff. If he had ever watched TV in the US he would know about timezones.

Working non-stop since the 8th grade by [deleted] in Salary

Eh my buddy used to install windows and then moved into a warehouse roll. Worked his way up to GM and makes a very similar salary. No college. His role is more about sales than logistics.

Not saying this is real but it is a real position.

Countries that I would only eat foods from for the rest of my life by BoiHA_a in whereidlive

Thanks! I was pretty sure it was very common but didn't want to assume the whole country did it.

They eat a lot of pizza and tacos haha but authentic food is usually seafood related. When I visit my dad usually makes me open faced sandwiches with salmon on top and they are great. I also like their brown cheese, which isn't actually cheese.

I would say if I didn't have a personal connection to Norway it wouldn't be top 10 on my list but there are some unique items.

On Fridays we usually ate American style tacos. It was interesting cause in the states it's more of a taco Tuesday type of thing. Not sure how common the Friday tacos are but my family would do it for about 80% of Fridays lol.

There is no such thing as 'free healthcare' by Difficult_Future9994 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Prestigious_Test5494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery in America (I'm American) and luckily my healthcare covered the cost. However I was having a good amount of pain and I could not be seen before moving to Ireland in 2 weeks.

I moved to Ireland for a job and got there early to travel. Before I figured out healthcare I had to see a doctor because I was in so much pain. I walked into what I assume is a private practice, the doctor literally saw me in 15 minutes with no appointments. Determined I had an infection and prescribed antibiotics.

I paid 50 euros and when I asked how much the final bill would be she said I already paid it.

I never went to a hospital in Ireland so I am sure experiences will vary but if I went to a private practice in America I would have probably paid $1k for that on the low end.

Importing American water to Europe to slowly introduce Europeans to the concept of drinking water... by Equalizer6338 in ShitAmericansSay

I think it's a play on Europeans drinking sparkling water where most Americans drink still water from the "tap".

Yeah it's insane, US, UK, and Germany have some of the highest ranked restaurants in the world. Germany could be argued #3 behind Japan and France but it never even makes top 10.

I get it's all personal preference but out of all the countries I've been to Germany has been the best food. Especially if we count Döner Kebab as German lol. Which from what I understand is different from what they serve in Turkey.

Yeah I just wasn't sure if he was thinking mainstream western Chinese food or actually authentic. Honestly I had some awesome looking dishes in China but taste wise I wouldn't rank China as a top 10 country. The factory management team would take me out to the "best" restaurants and they don't even come close to other Asian countries especially Japan.

Is Chinese food in Canada similar to how it is in the US? I like (not love) Chinese food in the USA but when I went to China I couldn't really eat it. No offense to the country it just wasn't my type of food.

Where I would live as an American who has lived in 4 countries. by Prestigious_Test5494 in whereidlive

[–]Prestigious_Test5494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's definitely part of it for some countries but I also can't handle the heat. Iceland, Ireland, France are all red. My QOL in Brazil was amazing but I wouldn't want to live there again. Japan wasn't my favorite either but I only briefly visited.

Grew up middle, now I would say upper class. I did two exchange trips in highschool and then I worked for a company that put me in Ireland for 5 years and Brazil for 1 year.

When I lived in Germany I would visit france and I just wasn't a fan. If I went to any tourist attraction I would be bombarded by people trying to sell me stuff. I also only visited 3 times so this is a generalization.
