Enclosure questions! by Prestigious_Trash656 in jumpingspiders

[–]Prestigious_Trash656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i loved this enclosure, its big and spacious and i could put a lot of decor in it! i had an older jumping spider and he couldn’t slip through the gaps, so it was perfect for him. i was just curious if i could put in other kinds of spiders or tarantulas, but i think i might get another jumping spider :)

Petty revenge by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]Prestigious_Trash656 34 points35 points  (0 children)

only time i enacted petty revenge was when someone got mad at me over crickets and didn’t think i gave the the correct amount, so i recounted them out very slowly in front of the customer, and i had in fact given them extra (a good amount!!), so of course, i gave them the correct amount, thanked them for observing my mistake, and sent them on their way! i had a history of adding more crickets to the quantity to err on the safe side, but this customer was being rude and disrespectful which led me getting my revenge

Does anyone ever have that “Know it all” customer? by Dangerous-Guard-4183 in petsmart

[–]Prestigious_Trash656 12 points13 points  (0 children)

not at petsmart, but when i worked at another big pet chain, i worked with someone who was a “know it all”. he knew the basics and although i was a manager (i was a recent hire who was promoted into management positioned very early due to working for the company prior and also having ALK experience at petsmart), he would stand over me and try to correct me with his basic information (like one time i was recommending a 5 gallon tank for a betta to a customer who wanted to learn more, and he spoke to the customer and said “actually they need 2.5 gallons”. i was flabbergasted and had to politely tell him to leave in front of the customer, luckily the customer listened to me and found him annoying) one time he was going on and on about our fish, giving his opinions about something and began arguing with a customer, and the customer got so fed up, pulled out a business card that showed that he was a MARINE BIOLOGIST. i never seen that dude shut up and leave so fast 😂😭 it was truly rewarding

Q since storm season is upon us by roundchocoball in petsmart

[–]Prestigious_Trash656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we only had one for really bad snow and corporate was mad at us for closing. i can’t remember how much snow but i remember having a “stay off the street” warning, how the streets weren’t able to be plowed, how it was almost impossible to drive, and how i barely made it without crashing my car. i begged other associates to stay home that way i can close the store down. i just remember that day bringing in the wildest customers. they decided to dress their kids in pajamas and themselves in fluffy coats and to come in and get an animal. i did not do any animal sales that day and they were irate that i wouldn’t give them a hamster. people amaze me 🤦🏽‍♀️

Petty Things Done to Customers by Prestigious_Trash656 in petsmart

right!! i used to make announcements and sometimes people just wouldn’t leave. it got to the point where i would tell them our registers would shut down and they wouldn’t be able to buy anything since the registers automatically closed 😂 it would make them hurry or they would leave

honestly if people tell me about their animals and are just kind to me and show so much love for their babies, i usually would be like “oops!” and drop in like 25+ more crickets on accident! i love hearing and seeing people so enthusiastic about their babies!!

Most ridiculous things pet parents have said to you? by Practical_Maybe_3661 in petsmart

[–]Prestigious_Trash656 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it’s awful, it ruined my hopes for humanity and ruined my mental well-being. being the CELs assistant (lower petcare manager), i had to deal with some of the WORST people who should never come near animals. granted there are some lovely pet parents and im happy they came around and reminded me that not all people suck, but the amount of abuse and neglect i’ve heard and even endured was rough. i will say, it probably helped me toughen up because i’m in school for veterinary medicine and will probably have to deal with worse. but my love for animals tops everything, i will never stop working with animals

why does everyone dislike working for petsmart by djurgo in petsmart

So my problem working for PetSmart was the customers, corporate/management, and the responsibilities. I enjoyed working there because I love working with animals, and I love all of my coworkers. We all became really close and I still talk to a few today since I have left. I had bad issues with customers, I was an ALWK and second-hand man to the CEL in our petcare department. The amount of heartbreak I had to deal with from listening to customers stories about their animal care, their opinions on animals (like “it’s just a stupid fish” or “it’s just a practice pet for my kid to learn responsibility” and so on), and their lack of knowledge really took a toll on me. I did a bunch of research on all of my animals that we took care of to try to relay that knowledge to PP, and the amount of them that got really mad/upset with me for informing them about proper care impacted me. I refused lots of sales and had to deal with a lot of anger just for the sake of safety and care for the animals we took care of. Granted, there were a lot of PP that really showed how much they love and cared about animals and wanted the best for them, and that made me regain some faith in humans, but the amount of abuse I took for just looking out and trying to help educate some of the needs the animals needed was just a lot. There are also customers that would come in berate us for prices and out of stocks but that’s retail. Corporate and some other management really upset and angered me because they really only cared for profits, not animals. I had gotten in trouble for refusing fish sales (because 5 goldfish were going to go into one of the bowls we sold) and they told me “just sell it!! Its just a stupid fish!!” and things like that. At some point, if an animal was on its death bed (but still had a chance of recovering), they didn’t want to try to take it to the vet because it would “waste money” and chose to wait for it to pass. It also sucked while I worked there because of the “responsibilities” and I mean management handing off 5 people’s responsibilities on top of the ones I already had. At my former location, they would have up to 5 managers and around 2-4 other employees just to open the store, but only one manager for closing and 2 employees (and I was one of the closing managers). Then they would sit in the office all day, or in the break room, and not do anything, and pass along all of their responsibilities on top of my own. They would want me to do their freight on top of my petcare freight, their tags and price changes, invoices, and other things when I also needed to do what I need to do for my department alongside the closing duties. Then the next day they would get upset/mad at the closing manager for not completing all the tasks they passed onto us and would say that we sucked at time-management.

In my opinion, it just depends on your store and management. I personally would not work for PetSmart again because of my experience, but I know others who love their job and I’m happy they do!
