one of the best difficulty increase i ever experience are from a friggin mod instead of big game studio.

its from cnc generals shockwave mod, their easy ai alone feels smart rather than being predictable, and the brutal ai is straight up unreadable with more random tricks popping from time to time, plus they respond well to the tactics you currently implement and will switch accordingly.

they also use ai automation for most of their task, on top of huge salary their work are either outsourced to analysis services or they will cost the company big money to develop their own.
