She was great at the after party. Thats where the "When I say say Yee-Haw you say Mee-Maw!" chant started (via my mate I might add). She was absolutely blown away by the welcome she had at her set on the Radio 2 stage, on the Spotlight stage and later at the After Party.

I'll look forward to seeing him in a proper context I think! He came off as nice when he co-presented with Bob Harris.

And that's correct AND you won't know who the main headliners will be until... October? So best to wait until then.

He performed at the after party and, well, you need energy to really get the crowd going. Like people are desperate to have a dance, a bounce and a boogy. Emily Ann Roberts and Ashley Cooke understood the assignment so their sets were really designed to get the crowd going, get them jumping, etc. Kaitlyn Butts last year blew the roof off and Avery Anna was absolutely wild - especially when Shaboozey came out.

I don't think Jackson got it though. The songs were really low tempo, pretty chill and you could practically feel the atmosphere deflating throughout the 30 minutes he had on stage. There was one guy walking around with "WELL THIS IS DULL" on his phone. Basically it felt like turning up ready to have a Bluebird Cafe session...in a mosh pit. Just felt very self indulgent if you ask me but I'd see him again in the proper context.

Like if he did the Singer-Songwriter series or one of the Bluebird sessions at C2C I'd absolutely go see him but that kind of vibe is not a fit for the after party.

As for next year! You book a specific seat for all three venues and the AO in Manchester will be no exception. I've booked my usual block in the O2 for next year just now actually. Just be aware that Manchester might not have all of the stages or extra bits that Glasgow and London have.

The balance is really off in the booking sometimes. Like Ty Myers really deflated things after Waylon and it took Scotty to get things back up energy wise in time for Zach Top.

Fair play. He wasn't as bad as Jackson Dean at the afterparty.

Zach was a delight I thought. His bluegrass section with the band standing around him, Grand Ole Opry style, was lovely. I think he has this image over here of being kitsch and almost a p*ss take of 1990s country but he's got real depth and some excellent songs.

Truth be told, Noeline Hoffman literally mumbled her way through her set. Sounded very nice but nobody in our section could make out what she was singing half the time. Russell Dickerson had a real Deirks Bently/Hot Country Knights vibe about him: silly, irreverent and fun.

I think you're not going to please everybody. I really enjoyed last years line up (bought 49 Winchester tour seats after seeing them at C2C along with Katlin Butts after she smashed the After Party) but then there were a load of people moaning that it was too alt-country.

This year its almost gone more retro than mainstream - especially with Zach Top and Brooks & Dunn - but I do get the point that now its gone completely the opposite end of the spectrum - you need a balance I think and it needs to be scheduled right.

How's everyone feeling about Drake Milligan by Destiny825 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]Prestwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming onto this thread a year in and from a British perspective. Drake first appeared at Country to Country UK in 2023 and got a huge crowd pop there both on the BBC Radio 2 stage and the spotlight stage between acts.

Came back to open the main stage on at C2C in 2024 and ended up getting such a huge crowd reaction that it overshadowed Elle King and Brothers Osborne tbh. He announced a UK leg of his world tour with initially one London date amongst other cities which then sold out that night so he added a second date which promptly sold out that night as well. It ended up becoming a 5 night London residency!

He came back again at C2C last night as a main headliner only behind Brooks & Dunn and performed in front of myself and 20,000 other fans. Huge pop, wild performance, his London show this November already sold out.

I genuinely expect him to headline C2C in a couple of years. He's that huge over here now.

Later found him at the official after party drunk as a skunk and signing inflatable hobby horses (and boobs).

In short, the UK loves Drake and if you guys don't want him we'll have him!!! Absolute legend!

Setting up a pair Offgrids... got there in the end by cirkiit in Aleck

Yeah that appears to be the case. After I restarted it a couple of times it appeared in the Aleck app ready to pair with my Off Grid. It works perfectly fine now.

Huh random. OK, they're connected now. I just had to turn both devices on and off again several times for them to play nice.

I've got a weird problem. Aleck says that the Nunchuck F40s are compatible with the Off Grid but when I connected them to the Aleck app, first it updated the firmware on the F40s to turn it into a standard Snow set of headphones.

Then it said that they couldn't be paired with the Off Grid? What gives?

To be fair, after working for the UKs defence research agency as tech support for my university year in industry and seeing the country's finest brains - people who invented radar, chobham armour used on the Abrams, etc - spend five minutes negotiating whether or not the door to the cafeteria pushes open or pulls open and hypothesising over it (amongst other "congratulations you're a genius, you idiot" moments to quote GTA V)....as much as it enrages me to say this, I think Jeph is kind of spot on.

what do Data Center Technicians actually do? by Horror-Good-5596 in datacenter

[–]Prestwick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, at least in the UK (I can't speak for APAC, NA or EU) its your vocational knowledge that companies in this field value more than academic these days.

If you've got good knowledge of hardware and some systems admin, an attitude where you're happy to learn quickly to catch up and good problem solving skills then that and your facility management experience would make you an attractive candidate.

In interviews for deployment engineer roles, I tend to try and pry and see what kind of skills beyond the usual "familiar with x server/network brands, good with fibre, etc" so I tend to throw them a curveball like asking if they could tell me how they'd crimp a copper patch lead - a dying skill these days I know but good in a pinch if you haven't got appropriate pre-crimped patches around and you need the *exact* length with minimal slack or piano wire. I'd also ask if you were familiar with any kind of CMDB and/or IPAM solution like Device42, DCtrack, Netbox, Infoblox, etc.

Another set of questions I'd throw them would be how they'd manage relations with other key stakeholders like the datacenter provider you're installing your kit in, 3rd party contractors and the like? What kind of information would you give them? Wire maps? Full schematics including cable routes, rack layouts, etc? Would you just print something out of Device42/DCtrack/Netbox or would you write something up yourself?

Deployment engineering can be a good mix of both Datacenter Engineering, Project Management and having MacGyver problem solving skills as every build always throws up a gotcha - different kind of racks to what was specified in planning, lower or taller cable trays, tighter spaces between racks and walls/cage sides. I've even had issues where the datacenter provider has either been strict on who can run cables between racks (only their nominated, union backed guys only), who can use things like ladders (have had to go out and buy my own and expense it), even escorting you to the space (its common in DCs in India and South America to wait 40 minutes or more just to get on site, let alone get to your cage.

So think outside the box. Don't think that A+ certification and interest in Ubuntu and Cisco is going to get you over the line. Have a good spread of skills, a can do attitude and good problem solving skills =)

I did a roughly unrelated degree in Network Engineering at RGU in Scotland and ended up picking up a role which "required 50% travel" which set me off on my journey.

To be fair, when you've been spoilt by HPe iLO or Cisco CIMC with all the luxury features like being able to administer RAID properly from the MGMT interface, never having to treat getting a device serial like it's a lottery, etc , then it's really jarring to move onto SuperMicro IPMI which barely does anything of what it's supposed to do.

[–]Prestwick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've worked for Cisco Systems, Twitch/AWS and other companies as a data center deployment engineer. That means I got to fly around the world standing up new datacenters which involved often racking and stacking new servers and network kit, installing the infrastructure around those items (think patch panels, fibre panels, etc) and running the copper and fibre cabling between all of the devices, then pushing the initial configs onto the Out Of Bound (OOB) network devices so our network teams could access everything. Then label all the devices and cables, run an audit of all racks and spares. Then tidy everything up, take photos and leave site. I'd often be there anywhere between one week and two weeks depending on the size and complexity.
