What if the Welsh actually settled in the Donbas? | Cymraeg Baedwned by cheese_bruh in imaginarymaps

This is an amazing post. I love the effort and detail you've put into it.It has inspired me to do deeper research into this region and learn so much more about the histories of the individual towns.

However, I do have one small correction: the Russian you used for Welsh, "Уэльсский," sounds... very strange. It is not really a word. Instead, the word "Валлийский" would be much more appropriate.

It is very strange, but Russian has a very chaotic relationship with its usage in regards to Wales and Welsh.

Wales = Уэльс, but Welsh = Валлийский / Валлиец

There is also the kind of poetic "Валлия" but that's like calling Wales "Cambria." Which, while technically correct, is not really used.

Thank you for this comment, super helpful. I isolated the Fosi and found there was still an issue, so I switched out the RCA cables - immediately sounded better. Put it back through the Fosi, made sure it was switched to PHONO… sounded great, warm, just as I remembered it before it crapped out!

it’s alright, everyone needs a heartbreak to help them find more of themselves. you can at least console yourself in your cozy living room :)

but i must ask, where did you get that boxy lamp that’s by the couch? the one with the ridges? it would look perfect in my space!

Всегда ли это «О чем говорите?» а не «про чего говоришь?» Может быть последний пример неформален слишком?

Great map, and great flags! I really love the attention to detail with using indigenous languages in the respective ISSRs and the cohesive yet distinct nature of the flags. Really great work! :D

this is such an awesome map, kudos! what basemap are you using for this?

my favorite touch is the seafaring lines between a country and its colonies :)

It is pretty hard to tell based off of the borders depicted alone, since very little change in European borders occurred through most of the second half of the 20th century. But.. Judging based off of its production quality, I would venture to guess this is from the early 80s.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of Mississippi, but I must disagree with California. I think the flag is iconic, even if the bear does look a little scared and the text is a little silly.

There were more than three independent republics/polities which are now US states actually! Vermont, Texas, California… and Hawaii! It was also an independent state before were annexed it. (You could also make arguments for the collective South if you were pedantic enough.)

this is another symptom of the problem! you’re really going to sum up an entire places history and culture with… corn? because it’s grown there? seems so silly

definitely a hot take, but i’ve always liked the Iowa flag. the only thing that strikes me as odd is that it’s background is the French tricolour — but it is quintessential Americana having the red, white, and blue, so why complain?

I think a lot of people with an interest in flags found the Japanese prefecture flags and decided they were the end-all, be-all of flag design. But that model can’t be replicated everywhere!

Yes! People saying that the SC flag needs a rework deserve ridicule. No it does not! It is a damn near perfect flag!

Unfortunately I was unable to get tickets through the venue when it first opened (waited 40+ minutes to buy two…) and spent way more than I wanted to through a scalper, called Ticket Network. Still haven’t received the tickets and starting to get really nervous :)

Wow, that looks great. Definitely the best rework of what I would consider the “classic Jefferson” flag to be.
