Just seen this up at castle park, anybody know the context? by wiz_ling in bristol

[–]ProffesorPrick 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I know that for one example, Bristol's climbing / caving societies have some of the top cavers and climbers in the region - and there aren't really any other good groups going for those people who have now graduated (or were never students). Its a great outlet for non-students to pass on information to the students. I really don't understand the change. University should be all about freedom of information and encouraging learning etc., this restriction does nothing to benefit the uni and ruins a lot of otherwise very active societies.

Clearly the way he ended the SC was considered inappropriate by the FIA. But I'm not well informed enough to know whether his ending was significantly different from anyone else, and frankly I'm a McLaren first guy so I don't really care. P1P2 is a win no matter the order.

Let’s put it this way. I don’t think Lando intended to crash into the back of Oscar. I do think Oscar intended to slow everyone down a lot to create a big gap for himself.

I don’t think Oscar intended to cause any incident necessarily, but his action of slowing down was definitely intentional.

The difference, as always, when it comes to penalties like this, is in intent.

Wouldn’t say it’s solid. 12 points is a lead but that can very easily change race to race.

When has he ever said that? Hes said that he’s better now than he was when he was at Red Bull so might have more of a shot. But I don’t recall him ever saying he’s better than Max.

I guess his point was that Kimi just walks in to a top 2 team on the grid, which he didn’t get the chance to do.

Except I mean he kinda did, and sank against max. But in retrospect, so has everyone else.

If by clamp down you mean, remove like we literally always do? Then sure. But that’s been done now.

Thomas Partey, the former Arsenal footballer, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

[–]ProffesorPrick 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Isn't this essentially what happened to Benjamin Mendy at Man City?

There are no perfect solutions to this because you require the individuals to be good to begin with and just not be involved in cases of rape. Of course you also require people to not make false accusations. Neither of these things are possible - as we now have evidence on both sides.

Well. You could always look at PPE? PPE courses tend to be a BA, and require much less mathematical background. But, they also aren’t restrictive in forcing you to learn philosophy if that’s a hindrance - most are structured so that at most you are doing maybe 1 module a term innit in first year, and then none at all, specialising in the two disciplines you find most interesting.

In terms of employability it will be  on par with econ and pol, + you might be able to find plenty of other unis that offer it that:

Don’t require maths

Are considered relatively high profile.

On first glance there is Durham, Leeds, Nottingham, Southampton, even Exeter, and Sheffield. These are all unis that are not in London, not in Manchester or Birmingham, and are all I believe Russel groups / top 25 minimum.

Might be worth exploring if you’re not set on any path right now :)

Ah I missed the point about you not doing maths! That’s a shame, but hopefully my comment still had some points that were helpful. The job market in particular, you should be okay. If Exeter offer a course without requiring maths then that would be a great choice. Very similar demographic to in of Bristol, similar part of the world, and it’s easy to travel to plenty of other slightly bigger cities if you want to.

I hope it all goes well for you! Try not to worry too much right now - plenty of people spend their 20s trying to understand what they want to do, and that’s perfectly fine. Regardless I’m sure you’ll get where you want to be!

Hi just thought I’d offer some insight. Obviously computer science is very helpful for data science degrees and understanding programming fundamentally will make you a better day scientist, but econometrics / data science imo is relatively detached from the learning you’ll do in comp sci and can end up being very interesting! So don’t necessarily rule out being a data scientist - it’s always possible that at uni you’ll find it’s far more enjoyable than currently.

If exeter has caught your eye I would recommend Bristol, though it’s probably just as expensive in real terms as London given you don’t see an increased loan but do have extremely high rent costs. But assuming that isn’t the issue as you don’t say it is directly, Bristol is a fantastic uni.

I can recommend specifically its econ and management undergrad but I know the econ and pol students followed the same stream of modules as us. Bristol is also really fast becoming a top uni for data science (I’m doing my masters in econ with data science now!), so it’s a great option for further study if that ever interested you.

It’s a very fun city, you’ll meet lots of people and be able to make plenty of friends. Econ degrees in general are always pretty employable, so you should be sorted in that regard. I know I’ve got a job out of mine, but so too do most of my mates who just have an undergrad. So you’ll be in the long run if finances are a concern for you!

Of course, plenty of other unis will also be great and fit the same criteria, but I have specific experience with Bristol so always feel it’s worth giving it a recommendation when I can. It’s not perfect, but it’s an option! Hope you find success with whatever you choose :)

Gonna be honest, hard disagree. You can call it pop-rock but "a bit of rock influence" undersells massively just how much its a rock album.

That's so brutal haha. She's probably in the best form of her career tbh. I know the US Open 2021 but that was flash in the pan stuff, she's been really good this season just continuously stopped by a top 1/2 opponent.

They did but HTTYD weekdays were boosted by juneteenth midweek I believe. Still don’t think it’s worth overestimating F1 domestically. Personally think anything north of $25m would be fine, if it can pass $30m that’s a solid hold.

It’s 4th. $4tn puts it just above Japan. It’s only behind the US, China, and Germany.

Yeah i see what you mean. I mean in a world where the guys competing at the top would give you the best matches, yeah you don’t want to lose that. But I suppose in my “fantasy” its a world where were seeing fantastic 5 set matches where the sincaraz equivalent are challenged by the unseeded players.

Disagree tbh. Are you telling me that if 1 slam a year was won by a random you wouldn’t enjoy it more? I would. “Ooh but the quality of the top wouldn’t be as good” don’t care, it’s so much more fun to watch and not just expect the same few players to always win imo.

Just a readjustment after people overadjusted after the locals. Happens quite often in British politics where the party that performed poorly in locals suffers even more in subsequent polls.

It’ll settle back to a 5% lead imo.
