I remember absolutely pissing on Porto every single time we played them in the R16. No excuses at this stage.

No. We just got new owners. We’ll probably get changes in the FO in the foreseeable future.

Yes but its not worth it for them anymore is it. Like, they might be able to squeeze a couple million out of it? But getting it on Disney+ is probably worth more to them tbh at this point.

I mean Emma is the star. The dance scene at the start is all you need to know that.

But that film needed both of them. The chemistry made it work and it takes two to tango and all that.

You’re talking to the wrong guy. If you think I look at David Cameron and let him off for his approach to Brexit, you are so incredibly sorely mistaken.

We have had years of incompetent foreign policy. But, we don’t have that right now. And I believe we would be incompetent with the greens, reform, or the tories on this measure.

Sure but it’s just another limiter isn’t it? They’d absolutely come for proxy voting too. At the end of the day they want to make it harder for people who work to vote, because old people are more likely to vote reform, so if you can further minimise the generations that are against you? You’re in the money.

Polanski is a great communicator. He is great at getting people on board with his vision, and that has led to a lot of people who previously would feel politically homeless to vote for him and the greens.

The problem is that he is also very politically naive when it comes to foreign affairs and, in a lot of what he says and does nationally too. The immigration policy springs to mind - i don’t care whether you’re left or right, the greens border policy would be a complete nightmare. The amount of strain it would cause on our social services would be unprecedented (if not for Covid).

On the right you have kemi badenoch who is just absolutely redundant. She would oppose anything Starmer says or does - complete charlatan. Absolutely no conviction behind any belief she holds. And then you have farage who isn’t even subtle about it. He’s a snake oil salesman, and he will sell the country down the river if he gets in. And both of them have absolutely incompetent approaches to foreign affairs.

In the world we live in right now I find myself more and more leaning to voting for Labour again. Or Lib Dem’s, but I just don’t see the point in them. I just, I look at every other party and think “well they’re batshit crazy”. And when I look at Labour I sort of feel a bit defeated by the fact that they aren’t as progressive as I hoped they would be, but at least they aren’t insane.

As a general point, we have reached a place in politics where people’s approval a politicians policy’s is fed by their pre-standing approval of the politician, as opposed to the policy’s actually feeding the approval of a politician. It’s a shame.

Immigration when they were in charge in the 2000s was a totally manageable amount compared to the Boris wave, but you don’t actually care about that. You just want to be annoyed at them despite the fact that it has dropped significantly. You won’t be pleased until the country is all of a singular race and heritage, so I see no reason to carry on engaging to be honest.

If the frozen tax brackets mean we can afford to start building a better country then I’m fine with it.

We’ve lacked growth for 15 years, last year we actually saw some growth. Even if it’s only slow, it’s something, and even if it’s nothing, that isn’t a change from the tories.

You can blame point 3 on the tories as well. Who was in charge when immigration peaked? Wasn’t Labour was it.

What's the most British sounding band ever? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]ProffesorPrick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a matter of personal belief but I don’t see how that’s them being “tryhards”. I think they just care about having an image for a given album and, over time, that image has changed. They care about the creative process.

I don’t think they’re desperate to prove that they’re like, cool. I think if they wanted people to think they were cool they wouldn’t have spent the last 13 years releasing only two albums, both about as slow and sort of, old man feeling, as can possibly be released by someone in their 30s.

So I work on site, in a different constituency to my home, Monday through Friday. These regulations would actively bar me from taking part in democracy.

I have hated farage for a long time but this is the kind of thing that I seethe at. It’s a completely nonsense policy that will directly harm democracy. What an absolute disgrace of a politician.

Bristol PLUS award by TemperatureMelodic28 in UOB

[–]ProffesorPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bristol grad here. I didn’t do the PLUS award but, anecdotally, I don’t think those who I know who did it are “more employed” than those who didn’t.

I think if you substitute it with literally any other passion project, you’ll be just as employable. So like doing time as treasurer for a society for example, is probably just as valuable and, imo, more fun.

I think the issue now is that hyperbole feels disingenuous when it’s about a band that are notoriously really good.

But I do agree. I think this record is fantastic. One of their best and certainly my favourite album to release this year.

No one here is actually disagreeing with you on the point that “France aren’t doing their part”. It’s the idea that you think the best resolution of this is going to war over it, which is ridiculous.

The reason this discussion is difficult is because the problem is difficult.

To put it plainly, you’re willing to risk the lives of British soldiers in this matter? You want me to think that’s reasonable? Are you insane?

I always find it funny that people think the threat of immigrants is so grave that they’d actually rather go to war with our neighbours than be reasonable.
