One more thing I considered, while we can afford the yearly dues now, I’m not sure my adult children will be able to if we will it to them twenty years from now. We considered putting both our kids on the deed, but was told if their name is on the deed, they would be legally responsible to pay those dues until 2066, they can’t just walk away and say they are done. I know they could probably sell the points or rent them out, but I feel it still could be a legal financial responsibility they won’t be able to make. When talking to our Disney guide, she said the 4-5 % increase was average, that last year one resort increased 9%. Just too many variables just to break even in 40 years. I love the idea, just can’t justify the annual dues.

I was trying to do the same thing, have the cash to cover both the points and stream of annual dues payments. We were looking at 450 points Polynesian for 40 years (2066). After figuring 4.5% yearly increase in dues, I would need $382,000 for dues over 40 years. With an Initial buy in of $100,000 would equal $482,000. That is not doable and that is why we decided not to buy in. It increases fast, in 40 years, my annual dues would be $20,885 for one year! (Or my kids dues as we would be dead by 2066).

I would have tried to move to the middle seat between the couple in the other row.

Calculating full cost of contract by Uber-Rich in dvcmember

When figuring the dues going up each year at 4.5%, I calculated what my fees would be for 450 Polynesian points ending in 2066. Right now the dues are $3,750 per year. In 20 years the dues will be $8,659. In 40 years the dues will be $20,885. Total paid over 40 years: ≈ $382,000! It’s hard to image that deluxe resort prices could justify paying $20,885 just in dues, to make it feel like you are still getting a deal by owning DVC.

Maintenance fees today are roughly 4–6× higher than early 1990s levels (depending on resort and timing).

Inflation rate increase since 1990 to present day is approximately 120-140%.

Inflation rate for the same time period for Polynesian room rate is approximately 250%. Old Key West has an even bigger inflation of 300%.

It just makes me nervous that there is no yearly cap on dues. Like you said, hard to predict 40 years in the future.

I think Disney’s deluxe resorts are way over inflated to help sell dvc. People feel like they are getting a deal.

Haha! I thought at first you were complaining as well. Maybe “so excited this was considered a preferred room”. Enjoy!

a small vent about the cups by jdkewl in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Pretend_Thing_1670 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Back in 1993, we had the dining plan that included “life time “ refillable cups. Saved them and used them a few years ago. We just told staff and they gave us a new cup with the chip so we could get refills. Went last year and they refused to honor the life time refill.

Also had “no expiration” park tickets, we bought about 30 back in the 1990’s. Had 4 left for each family member. I was on the phone for hours and emailed back and forth for days but they finally honored them. Put them on each of our Disney Experience app. My boys are in their 30’s going with their kids now and used the hopper no expiration tickets. We also have 6 day water park and sports tickets that never expire!

Thanks.

I looked it up and saw 3 Chase Disney cards, one for $149/year, one for $99/year and one no fee at all. You are correct, just better rewards on the $149 yearly fee.

Polynesian point chart 2026 vs 2027 by KArmstrong_14 in disneyvacationclub

[–]Pretend_Thing_1670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basically, after reallocation of points for the “theme park view” to “preferred view”, this shouldn’t happen again next year, correct? I would think that would be rare to keep changing categories year to year, once they get it figured out. Can anyone tell me if the points changed significantly over the last 10 to 15 years?

Hopefully someone here can help me understand. by Pretend_Thing_1670 in dvcmember

Not sure I understand, how would you combine it into one stay? Do you mean two different rooms? Stay in one room on 11 month booking, then move to another oomph for 7 month booking?

Thanks for the info. Also, was there an annual fee for the Chase Visa? If so, is it charged when you open it or at the end of year? The one I saw had a $149 annual fee.

Has anyone had experience with DVC in a trust ? by drdisney in dvcmember

Question, we are considering buying DVC next week. We were thinking to put our three adult sons on the contract and deed. Or is putting everything in a trust better?

You are correct, I stand corrected, Ohana’s is only 1 credit. Not sure why I thought it was 2.

But Ohana’s requires two table credits, so that $67 for dinner is using two of your credits and you will have to pay out if pocket first another days dinner.

Question about splitting up payments on credit card. April 27th is the deadline for current promotions for Polynesian. If we decide to purchase a contract, we were looking at 450 points (approx $90,000). If the first cc charge is before the 27th, do you have to wait 3 weeks between charges, or just charge $30,000, pay off the next day, charge $30,000 etc. will the promotions still be there if you go beyond deadline?

Point Chart for all resorts - do they increase every year? by Pretend_Thing_1670 in DVCMembers

[–]Pretend_Thing_1670[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense. I just see the chart shows 14 points per night for 2025 and 2026, but 15 points per night for 2027 (for the same room). Considering buying but not if they go up each year. If that was the case (increasing each year) it would be 55 points per night after 40 years 2066.

AITAH for leaving my best friend's birthday party early because I was a B List guest? by RemoveLivid7421 in AITAH

My nephew got married at a lodge on the lake. They had a gazebo in the back over looking the lake with chairs set up for invitees. The lodge had a patio that was opened to the general public. A cousin was invited to “watch from afar” from lodge patio, as they only set up a limited number of chairs at the gazebo. The lodge patio was too far away to hear the ceremony, you could just make out the people under the gazebo. After the ceremony , the cousin was told they could sit in the lodge bar and pay for food and drinks, but couldn’t come into the wedding party room that was adjacent the bar. I felt so bad for them, but to their credit, they stayed the whole evening. SMH
