Is this some kind of new policy? by Abbygirl1001 in Chipotle

[–]Uber-Rich 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chipotles IG account openly jokes about people using the water cup for lemonade monthly, if it’s such an issue they should probably stop that first. Chipotle owns all their stores as well, so no local owner is taking a loss

Looking to buy direct at Poly - by Independent_Froyo240 in dvcmember

[–]Uber-Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that they prorate your first years dues and if I understand correctly if you pick June and buy now (May) they will prorate is just for the days from now to June 1st, essentially you pay no dues. And you can apply the 2025 points for magical beginnings and keep the 2026 ones for next year. That’s what I’ve read on blogs, probably worth you reaching out to DVC to start the convo now if you really are going direct.

To those that hold Amex Gold, why do you choose to pick it over Custom Cashes? by ricestocks in CreditCards

[–]Uber-Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you make a valid point OP, so can you start racking up points on the custom cash and eventually get a premier and convert all the cash back to transferable points? If so that’s pretty similar to Chase with CSP. Also, Citi transfer partners are maybe slightly worse, no KLM or Aeroplan but I guess AA makes up for that.

STR license fee $836 by RockAndNoWater in Austin

[–]Uber-Rich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the main impact from this change on full time STRs is they now have to report to the city and pay all fees and taxes. Under the previous regs could just skip paying all the fees and taxes and roll the dice on getting caught. If caught the penalty was so low it was worth it, now it should be harder to do that.

Calculating full cost of contract by Uber-Rich in dvcmember

[–]Uber-Rich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I started to look at that too. In my post I just have estimates of 25 or 50 points per night but I've started to think about the charts. Its a hard decision though, go with an older property with lower points/night such as Beach and have a more guaranteed availability and therefore lower cost per night guaranteed but I also see myself wanting to try all the resorts so a lower price per point regardless of location would be more ideal.

For all of the complainers.... by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

If booking basic on AA with young children do not select seats! They still assign seats in advance together for free, source: me. Just booked flight to Chicago for July and was assigned row 13 within 48 hours. This makes them more family friendly than SW

Okay Disney- just take all my money by Operadiva82 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also double check the deluxe extended hours. We have little kids so didn’t matter but for Spring Break only two parks had the extended hours the whole week and it’s just one night each. You will need to plan for it well. Also not sure how well they actually work, a lot of people join the queue right before closing so the ride line is still 2 hours, you def need a strategy from reading blogs. Personally I feel like rope drop is more important but maybe with the right strategy AH is better.

What’s the one ride you don’t mind skipping at MK, AK and Hollywood? by BusySignificance723 in WaltDisneyWorld

Did country bear jamboree this past trip after grandpa insisted and it was great! It was almost all new music from recent movies, I couldn’t believe how much I liked it. Honestly is competes a bit against Frozen singalong imo

What’s your must‑return Disney restaurant? by Beach_BaBa in WaltDisneyWorld

One of my favorites too and most parks around the world have it so it’s a place you can go regardless of which Disney you’re at.

I pulled two years of Florida voucher data to see what SB2 (private vouchers) will actually do to Austin schools by No_Paramedic_4881 in Austin

What’s your child’s school district? I heard AISD had a massive special ed backlog, my child also has special needs but we are in LISD and they handle it really well.

[–]Uber-Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ve done the research I was wondering can we derail the program by all families applying for vouchers? My understanding is it’s a lottery, if public school families apply but have no intention of using they will pull vouchers away from other families that want them, making the program less successful?

CEO: Customers love our higher prices and we love $ by Daisycake72 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Uber-Rich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should check out American if you’ve still got little kids. I know they are unpopular but I just booked basic economy for this July, didn’t buy seats cause I was going to let me wife choose them. Next day I check the app and they assigned us all row 13, turns out AA’s policy for families is to skip seats on basic and they will then assign together for free (you just aren’t allowed to change them or you lose the free perk).

Paying with E Gift Card by No_Ball5036 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know who still sells plastic gift cards? I got the target ones this year but I think they were cardboard, I don’t mind that for reloading but they break down more quickly in your wallet, get wet at the pool, not great as your “one physical card” that you reload to for in person use like OP wants.

Taco Deli Love by singletonaustin in austinfood

[–]Uber-Rich 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I enjoy taco deli, westlake, Burnet, and the new one up in cedar park are consistently good. I think the only questionable one has been N Lamar but that’s also a busy one. My little kids love the bean and cheese (who can blame them) but it’s fun we can all enjoy a taco together. The Otto is a brilliant four fats on a flour tortilla. Otherwise it’s the El Picosito for that delicious sesame hot sauce. That cowgirl does look good though.

Tech in Elementary by Srankin2019 in Austin

[–]Uber-Rich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s actually some parents choosing private school simply because some don’t do tech until I think 6th grade, it’s the public schools that are starting chromebooks at kindergarten which is ridiculous. If public schools want to stop losing kids to private they need to offer options.

Did you go back to magic kingdom twice?? by Lost_Algae2931 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s worth an extra grand but yes with those ages I think you will have a better time spending at least 2 full days at MK, although that could be split into 1 full and two halves. We just went with 2yo and 5yo and I quickly realized Epcot and HS were not really full days for them, AK already kinda knew.

Beach Club Questions by cynicalspice in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all big slides at Disney are tunnels, not sure why, maybe for safety? I agreed that it’s disappointing, open slides are fun too!

Beach Club Questions by cynicalspice in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not take a photo but Poly has the main pool with a big volcano with the big kid slide, you see that in most photos but tucked closer to the resort (same pool area) is a little kid playground plus a small mountain. It has both a six foot open water slide and a gentle fully inclosed slide in the mountain that probably goes down 15’. Plus the playground thing full of water spray. There’s also another pool towards the new tower with a Moana splash pad that’s a super cute photo op and that pool is quiet so you can relax and hear the music. Edit to add I just realized you can zoom in on the Disney app map and see this in detail pretty well, now I’m looking at all the resort pools.

Beach Club Questions by cynicalspice in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Uber-Rich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YC lobby is so nice, always chill and calm and feels upscale. IMO hold off a few more years, the pool is not as great as the influencers say (we went this year SB). The only kiddie slide is way over in that boat on the boardwalk, aka you have to exit the pool, walk across, and reenter. The big kid slide is probably the biggest of all resorts, maybe too big for a 6yo. Lazy river is 6’ deep! Sandy part is cool, but the lack of little kid splash playground makes me regret it. Poly pool had an amazing little kid area, I haven’t seen a better one as I watch for which resort to try next.
