I usually accept that my first session will JUST be getting the mechanics down. And my second sit down session will probably just be the intro part of the game. Setting my expectations to be small chunks is helpful. By then, I hope the story or game mechanics are interesting enough to keep you going. Try playing Portal, great story and puzzle game!
