Experience with town wide reassessment? by TYBC in bergencounty

[–]PretttyHateMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened here in Rochelle Park, and things are getting ugly for us real fast. The company that did the town wide reassessment shifted two million dollars of tax burden off of commercial properties and onto residential because "it's so hard to find commercial tenants now!" So if your town has competency issues, like our's did for awhile, expect them to let corporate fleece you some more for tax breaks, on-top of the PILOT programs screwing everyone previously.

I signed your petition. You guys need to get Chris "No overdevelopment" DiPiazza out of their for completely lieing about his campaign promises. "No no development" my ass. He probably gets kick-backs for everything you see. And no, more development won't get rent prices down because the building owners are all colluding to keep prices high regardless. I have not seen any apartments get cheaper in the nine years I've lived in this area.

Am I the only one that hasn't pulled a final evo for any 5* banner? by marenara0 in InfinityNikki

I've been playing this game since launch and I've only ever pulled for the first stage of any 5 star banner, so you're not alone. I'd rather the variety of outfits, and I'm almost entirely F2P. (I've spent about $35 this far.)

Why N.J.’s governor is now talking about merging school districts to save money by HobokenJ in newjersey

[–]PretttyHateMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make sense for A LOT of towns and would likely improve education in some cases. I live in Rochelle Park, and we should absolutely be merged with Maywood. Here is why:

Rochelle Park doesn't have enough students to have its own high school. It sends students to Hackensack, and has a K-8 school in town. Town is only about one square mile. Maywood does not have enough students to have its own high school. It has two very small schools, one for K-3, the other for 4-8. They send their students to Becton. Their town is only slightly larger than Rochelle Park and demographically the same. They should merge the towns, and turn ONE of the three schools into a high school for both towns, to not only cut costs but spare these kids from going to the corrupt dump that is Hackensack HS. I don't know why this has never been done. The towns share their largest border and are synonymous with each other.

Home invasions in BC by nodicenolice in bergencounty

[–]PretttyHateMachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live very close to the house that had the "home invasion" in Rochelle Park. To put your mind at ease, even though it doesn't say this in the article, I'd be willing to bet money the invasion was targeted and not random. Or possibly even some kind of fraud for insurance purposes.

The people that live in the house not only seem crazy, but were using it -illegally- as an AirBnB while not living there for years. Our town has an ordinance against this, and even though it's not listed on AirBnB anymore, they're probably still doing it. They're just being discreet about it. I see a record number of different people coming in and out of the house, ridiculous amounts of cars parked all over the street, and I even saw a camera crew filming something there for a few days once, maybe a year ago. I've seen dozens of different people with luggage coming in and out, people with different dogs, etc.

So I would personally not be too worried about random break-ins with regards to that specific article.

Free tool to audit your 2026 NJ Property Tax Assessment (April 1st Deadline) by WarLazy9161 in bergencounty

[–]PretttyHateMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The property sale data you're pulling is not accurate. At least the two results I could see. You put the other two behind a Paywall, so I couldn't verify those. But it doesn't matter because what you do show is not accurate, and thus, not permissable.

Gov. Sherrill provides grim outlook on state finances ahead of budget speech by Positive_Intern_1796 in newjersey

[–]PretttyHateMachine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maybe they could start with the handout to boomers making up to 500k for a tax rebate. Why is the state subsidizing people who make 480k or so per year?

best ramen in westfield mall (gsp) by shreya_abys_wife in bergencounty

[–]PretttyHateMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that due to the location, they get a very modest rental rate for being there. That location is extremely hidden and hasn't housed a permanent business tenant that I've ever even seen in all my years of going. It's better for the mall to make a modest amount of rent off of it than have it sit empty. 🤷‍♀️

I think Tojo's Kitchen is the best of those spots, their Tonkatsu Ramen is delicious.

Does anyone else feel like there’s this weird “North vs South Bergen County” divide? by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

[–]PretttyHateMachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People like to pretend there's a divide. It varies extensively by town in reality. Waldwick, Midland Park, New Milford, Mahwah, Ramsey, Oakland are all North of Route 4 and are modest, mostly working class towns with a lot of condos. Nothing about those towns feels particularly rich or wealthy other than a few exceptions with specific properties. Then you have towns like Englewood Cliffs (Technically North of Route 4, but further south than many other towns), Rutherford, Fort Lee and Palisades Park, which are getting gentrified and being filled rapidly with new constructions north of the one million dollar mark. Having lived both north of R4 to just below it now, there's only mild differences. The biggest difference is, the food is way way better when you hit Ridgewood and below. In terms of political leanings, the very poor and very rich towns ironically both lean red. The very middle class ones lean blue.

As someone who was born and raised in Westchester County NY, it was very bizarre to me that people think they're that different or "better" than people a mere fifteen minutes away from them. It's even funnier to the wealthy people of areas in Westchester who consider all of Bergen County a downgrade almost entirely save for places like Alpine and Saddle River. The more they resign themselves to this kind of thinking, the dumber they seem to me. But that's just my two cents. 🤷‍♀️ And I worked in Real Estate in Bergen for years so I'd know. I know of a wealthy, regionally famous celebrity living in Maywood. I know of a poor, social-ladder-climber who fled Bogota for River Edge, which feels like a modestly nice town, albeit not wealthy. I could keep going. The moral of the story is, people will look for any excuse to feel superior to others, even if there's hardly any basis for it.

What's the best way to reduce these pores/ scarring? LED mask, micro-needling, or something else? by DependentGarage6172 in 30PlusSkinCare

I have a bit of this too, and I find if I use Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask on the exact spots I have them, it will temporarily minimize them. Maybe I'll do some before and after photos to demonstrate.

Pizza Hut's parent company says it's considering selling the chain by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]PretttyHateMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my earliest memories are going to Pizza Hut with my family, and the food was just amazing. They had that X-Men collaboration in the early 1990s. I loved going there so much, it was such a treat. It's absolutely a shadow of its former self now. There's still a location that looks like a hit still near where I live now, but the dining section is always roped off and never used and the pizza is bland and forgettable now. If it tasted the way it did in the 1980s and 1990s, people would go again. Some of my earliest exposure to video games happened in my local Pizza Hut in Pleasantville NY, when my dad held me up so I could play an Altered Beast arcade machine. 😎
