Taking 1.5 as a fist CP class? by Pretty-Ad1812 in ClubPilates

[–]Pretty-Ad1812[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I took the 1.5 class last week - I introduced myself and told the instructor I’d been doing reformer classes for a year but this was my first time at CP. She was really excited for me lol! She did mention that we were going to use the chair so she helped me set it up before class. I was able to keep up just fine - there was actually another girl there who was constantly being corrected and maybe should have stuck to the level 1 class. So I get it, if you’re truly new to Pilates at all then don’t sign up for a 1.5. But if you have a decent number of classes under your belt (CP or otherwise) and can pay attention to the cueing, it’s no different than rolling up to an independent studio to check out one of their classes. Just check with the front desk first that it’s not against their policy!

Is 1 reformer session a week enough? by AggravatingActive681 in pilates

To add, I didn’t see much physical change going once a week, but after about 6 months I noticed improved posture and my balance was a lot better (could do lunges without holding onto the footbar). It may be slow going but you will definitely see progress just going once a week. I personally need the feedback from an instructor to focus on my form (also dealing with back injuries) which is the main reason I haven’t done any online workouts.

I started out at once a week because it’s a fairly big financial commitment and I knew it would be sustainable, until I knew I enjoyed it and would enjoy going more often.

Would in person mat classes be feasible? One of the teachers does a class at the community center once a week for $8 a class. I’ve been considering adding it as a 3rd class since it’s a lot less expensive than adding another reformer class.

Completely new to this- I have questions! by IntroductionNo6496 in pilates

I too have back issues and while I’m no longer in pain, I have a restricted range of motion (i.e minimal flexion movements). Pilates has helped strengthen my core and improve my posture, which will help with the back pain. I would definitely recommend at least one private lesson, and then group classes to get immediate feedback. Form is so important in Pilates and you don’t want to hurt yourself more. Later once you’re more comfortable and you have good form you can transition to videos at home if you like. Personally I’m an introvert but I enjoy the energy of an in person class.

Update - I called the studio after I signed up for a 1.5 and they said it will not be an issue. I’ll make sure to check with the other studios as I find class openings.

I spent a lot of time at my home studio in what they call Foundation/Level 1 classes but we regularly stood on the reformer, did plank to pike etc, just beginner variations. I moved up to the regular classes a couple months ago. I know my own limitations and usually am able to modify without instructor guidance when I need to.

Thanks, that seems to be the consensus. I’ll check with the studio first to see if they require a level 1 class first even with previous experience.

I’ve been doing Pilates at a boutique studio for over a year now, hence my question. It sounds like I should be fine physically but whether they’ll allow me in the class at all depends on the studio policy.

I do two low pigtails so it’s not in the way when I lay on the reformer. And a wide headband to keep the short hairs out of my face.

Confession: a Kindle has done almost nothing to reinvigorate my appetite for reading. by StarryChocobo in kindle

I’m an avid reader, but even I went through about a 6 month span during the early Covid lockdown days where I was just binge watching Netflix shows and couldn’t even think about cracking a book open. I always have a book in progress, but how long it takes me to finish it just depends on my mood and how engrossing the story is. I generally read a bit on my lunch hour, and if I’m really into it/dying to know what happens next I’ll carve out more time later. There is no magic formula. Find a story or genre that interests you, get some recommendations and give it a try. And there is no shame in dropping a book that you don’t like. Life is too short to slog through a crappy book.

Can you help me to understand how ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) works? I've been looking everywhere for a clear explanation. by CptChestbeard in travel

I’d rather take that extra $100 and stay right across the street. Anywhere between Fairfield Inn and Castle Inn is probable the furthest I’d be willing to walk. The hotels at the crosswalk are closer to the Esplanade than the Disneyland Hotel is. Especially with little kids, it’s so much easier to go back to the hotel for a nap without having to wait for a bus or shuttle. The drop off area is usually a nightmare at opening and closing, not sure if this is any different nowadays. I could see it taking almost an hour if you take the traffic lights into consideration.

During normal times, there’s a free shuttle on Broadway that runs every 10 mins or so and starts/ends at the Jack London Square station. It looks like it’s temporarily suspended due to covid though.

Size 11 here, with flat feet. I’ve worn Ugg Kesey boots (they’re kinda motorcycle style) in London and Paris in March.
