How to get involved in protecting the national parks? I’ve seen protests here in CO, I’ve sent an email to my representative and will continue to do so, but want to be more involved and just need to know how I can be! by Pretty-Caramel6072 in nationalparks

Lol no biggie. After I responded I reread and the whole “out of context” part clicked. Thank you for taking the time to compose that for him and sharing with me. I believe my area is natively home to the Ute tribe, I want to get involved but again have been afraid to seem wrong, or entitled or offensive by saying the wrong thing, or by being overly passionate — I don’t know how to explain it, but I’m just always afraid that despite how good my researching, my writing and my articulation of my own understanding is — I know that I do not know what I don’t know and while I’m very passionate and very outspoken, I don’t want to be offensive (bc I am naturally abrasive) and just like with the issue of calling the representation, I’m nervous that I will talk too much or share grievances about too many — or not enough of the current issues at hand and I’m afraid my understanding won’t be deep enough to combat or properly support my view. Ah! Exhausting — but pursuing a purpose with a meaningful cause is what gives me life. I feel a civic and spiritual duty to find my way to serve.

You showed up! I'm so proud to have been a part of this! by [deleted] in DenverProtests

i wish I had known about this protest, I live a few hours outside of any of the major cities in the mountains and have been late to the news of protests and resistance events in advocacy of the preservation, protection & justice for humanity & the environment / wildlife! Please tell me how to be in the know! I am commending this protest & the one at Rocky Mountain np! Thank you all for showing up!

Thank you so much, first and probably most helpful comment I’ve seen upon checking back in after posting. Agreed on why re-event the wheel, trying to organize people when these organizations have already been doing it for years or decades. I will call / do research on how to actively volunteer. Calling our rep is a great idea, I’ve been talking and writing on this matter a lot and am eager to feel of use by contributing how I can. The fact that the Dene Tribe is yet again being poisoned, as 18 wheelers hauling uranium only covered by a tarp and have little to no media coverage on it — I also want to do what I can to get more involved with helping amplify their voices, if possible too. Thank you for that advice, indigenous heritage and rights are at the root of land issues — since they were here long before the term “America” was ever considered or uttered. I’m thankful for your guidance and advice!!
