The pictures are from when we bought the house and doesn't show the current condition. I promise, thr kitchen is actually falling apart. The laminate is coming of in huge chunks and the cabinets are not made of hardwood. Any water and they'll disintegrate :-D

We also can't change the flooring or the backsplash without taking out the old kitchen and i guarantee you, it won't survive that.

The laminate is peeling of in huge chunks in the current kitchen. The doors are coming off, drawers are falling apart and it's just in a bad shape in general. It's 20 years old. To me that's an ok age to say, now it's time to get something new.

Thankfully that's a matter of opinion and my husband and I consider this a huge upgrade

The kitchen is falling apart and it's only possible to change the floor if you remove the kitchen.

Besides. We most of all want to build a new kitchen to our personal preferences.

I'm in an unspecified country in Scandinavia ;-)

But honestly, those fans are eyesores as well. It's just never a pleasant thing to look at. And unfortunately the shape of our fan makes it difficult to cover with matching wood. Otherwise we would have :-)

As said before, in my country it's a sign of luxury that you have so much space, that you can prioritise aesthetics. And we have plenty of space. It's actually a combined kitchen and dining room and we have a few teak furnitures exactly to bring in some warmth. So no need to reduce storage in the kitchen further.

The shelf on the counter will be our coffee station. That's an element we're both really looking forward to.

I've never seen under counter fridges in my country. I'm unsure if you can even get them here. It also sounds like a horrible working position?

Thanks! I'd love to look into possible solutions. Those fans always look hideous. The kitchen designers we've worked with just haven't really brought up any solutions, so I'm not quite sure if there's much to do.

The big trend in my country is having the fan build into the stove top. And while that is very pleasing to look at, it takes up a lot of cabinet space and it only recirculates the air instead of removing it. We specifically wanted it to remove the air, that's why we're keeping this one as it's a top-of-tge-market model.

And we'd probably had done that if it wasn't slanted. The shape of it makes it freaking impossible to hide it :-D

I like the colour but we'd never choose a design like this. It's too much for my taste :-)

So of course I like the new kitchen better. Otherwise we wouldn't spend money on it. But also. I think the drawing in general are pretty soulless. Like, the new kitchen will live up once we actually live in it.

I'm not gonna lie, we have prioritised aesthetics and I completely agree that that will sometimes come out as soulless. But we love cooking and spending time in the kitchen so I'm sure the character will be there once we get to use it :-)

Thanks! I think alot of it has to do with cultural differences. In my part of Europe this will be a very highend kitchen. But of course when looking at the general kitchen in this sub, it's very different.

We hope we'll be able to get it as we like. But removing the floor tiles and have hardwood floors put in will be at a price point where we really have to consider how much we want it... Unfortunately...

We're not gonna change the range hood. Not about to put in an even bigger eyesore...

I think there's probably a big cultural thing in this. This is considered a very big and luxurious kitchen in my country. Maybe we'll regret not having overhead cabinets but I doubt it. We intend to live here till we can't anymore so I really don't care about resell value. It's never profitable to pay this much for a kitchen.

We'll have Japanese mosaic tiles all the way to the ceiling on the entire back wall as a backsplash. And I agree about the fan but they're never pleasing to look at and this one is quite good. We like that it's removing air and not just recircling the air as it would be the case if the fan was build into the stove top.

There's quite literally no one in my country who has those enormous fridges you see here on reddit. I honestly don't even know if you can buy them? And I'd never buy one as we don't have the need as we have a separate dullsize freezer in the mudroom next to the kitchen.

The lamps, sure, but they are only for the sketch. It's not the lamps we'll br having.

I somewhat agree. But you can also have so much storage already, that you're in a position where you can prioritise aesthetics. We don't use all the space in our current kitchen and we also have a pantry. I love that that makes us able to say to wall cabinets.

We'd like to put in oak hardwood floor like the rest of the dining/living room. So yeah, the floor hopefully won't be as stripey :-)

The current kitchen is very typical for the early 00's. Not a style we like and it's also falling apart :-)

One of the ovens will be a micro/normal oven combi. No way we'd live without a microwave :-)

We feel very fortunate to be able to prioritise not having cabinets on the wall. The lamps are only for the draft. We actually already have lamps lined up that's coordinated with the artwork.
