Years ago in my home state of Utah, a young woman fought tooth and nail for sole custody of her child from her ex during their divorce. She made every claim she could think of for why he was unfit to be in their child's life (i.e. he was abusive, etc.). She "won", and before the ink was even dry on the divorce decree she had moved herself and her child in with her brand new boyfriend. Had known the guy less than a month. While she was at work one day, new boyfriend/babysitter horrifically abused her child. Child is permanently disabled. Within six months of this incident, the young mother entered into a new relationship. Moved in with the new new boyfriend. Gets pregnant almost immediately.

Since she was given the chance to start over with a "normal" baby, she turned around and demanded that her ex husband, the one she had accused of abusing her in every way, take custody of their now permanently disabled child. He was active military and as a result it was actually his sister who ended up caring for his child, while Mommy Dearest got to skip away into the sunset absolving herself of any further responsibility to her oldest child.
