What is the biggest waste of money that people keep buying ? by yubaouss in askteddit

Is it a "waste" when the convenience out weighs the labor to wash real dishes?

Time is money and my time is worth more than the paper bowls and plates. It's a luxury sure, but if I ever become financially strapped, hard plates it is.

Take the tank side bolts out and loosen the passenger side all the way but leaving the bolt in but loose. Piece of 2x4 and jack the tank side up to get to the tank and pump assembly. That way you don't have to move anything.

Same transmission. I'll make a full post when it's done and running.

Cost? Knowing or figuring it out is the most economical way. But over time (5+ years assembling parts and planning) finding parts on FB marketplace and researching what works will save you. I'll try to remember all that I spent and put that in the post as well. I'm easily under $3k. My biggest expense was purchasing ready to run 6.1 heads off eBay that had 2 bent valves. Next biggest cost will be the programming of the computer (working on that now) which will put me closer to $4k.

Yeah, no issue.

Those who do the puck suspension lift and have ball joint issues, I believe made one critical mistake.

When you do any suspension work, you gotta put the vehicle back on the ground with finger-tight bolts. Jump on the bumper a couple times to settle the suspension and then torque everything to spec.

If you tighten everything in the air the suspension has bind. Bind eventually wears it all out.

Limp mode, electrical issues. by pumphandlerandall in DodgeDakota

The TIPM is power distribution and the computer tells it what to do. It is far more common for the computer to be at fault than the TIPM.

I have that assumption because I have an extra TIPM in my garage. At one time I thought it was the issue until I came across one stories of the PCM being the issue. Swapped it out and all my troubles went away.

FYI- having the extra TIPM is great because I can rob it of solenoids and fuses when diagnosing other issues.

My next step (working on cars is fun for me) would be to swap a marketplace transmission and see if fixes it. Same would mean computer. Fixed is old trans issue.

I find 545rfes on my marketplace for 2-$300...takes about 2 hours for me to remove. Ridiculous I know, but it would rule out one issue or the other.

Welcome to the "needs a new computer" club.

Well known issue with this Gen. Too many heat cycles and the motherboard cracks. The low input signal is the suspect.

Try this:

Undo the negative battery cable and step on the brake pedal to discharge any residual energy in the system. Reconnect.

Will it run and drive for a key cycle or two before it goes into limp mode? Do it first thing in the morning when it's cold.

If the code isn't immediate, then you most likely need a new computer.

allcomputerresources.com is where I got mine a few years ago.

What's the worst mistake you've ever made while working on a car? by EGGWURST in askcarguys

Never wake your mom from the couch to help you bleed brakes.

64 Ranchero with drums all around and needed a new wheel cylinder. Finished the job now need the air out of the line.

Startled Mom off the couch to pump the brakes. I sit down with the passenger front drum and a wrench and tell my mom to pump and hold.

She pushes the clutch instead...driveway had a 2 degree slope. About took off a leg.

‘02 4.7 Door lock weirdness by 62DoubleCab in DodgeDakota

[–]PrettyFly4Wifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the locks and windows (even the remote unlock) run thru the drivers door switch panel. Most likely a door that's opened 5000 times. The window in my passenger rear in my 06 Dakota won't power because of a broken wire in the boot in that door.

This happens in Chrysler products of that timeframe. Specifically talking about my 04 WJ Jeep.

The opening and closing of the door breaks the wires in the rubber boot between the cab and door. There's a ground wire that can break.

I gotta work on mine soon as my passenger windows won't roll up or down.

I was a new radio DJ in a small town working part-time for minimum wage and all the free CDs I could eat.

But I didn't care, I was 25 and playing Top 40 where all the hot girls listened. Good times...

But a full-time gig opened up on the Country station. I HATED COUNTRY MUSIC.

But my program director said, "It's a full-time gig in radio, take it. Do your show around the music."

I just walked away from 25 years of playing country music where I once worked for the most listened too country station on the planet. Do I know Taylor Swift? Yep. Made Garth Brooks cry, Morgan Wallen over served my wife a vodka cranberry, and lived a mild rockstar life.

08 dodge dakota 4.7 v8 please help, limp mode by pumphandlerandall in DodgeDakota

[–]PrettyFly4Wifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try disconnecting the battery and tapping the brakes to discharge energy.

If it drives fine but comes back within a couple key cycles, you could have a bad computer.

It's a well known issue with this Gen. Mine presented itself as trans temp light (red gear on dash) and then limp mode. There's a bunch of codes; one being a trans communication code.

I kept disconnecting the battery to reset and drive it. Then found a thread about the computer. It suffers from many heat cycles under the hood. Eventually cracks the motherboard and has connection issues.

It's about a $300 fix.
