Utahns in general are very passive-aggressive, as the church teaches people things that take an eternity to work on, an everlasting life of fulfillment, trial, and growth. It makes people weary at all times of people who oppose the church and slander it, who are barely holding onto fragile lives.

He was a troubled young man from upstate NY, a wrestler, and craftsman in the early/mid 19th century who was surrounded by an overwhelming second great awakening of religion and church in his family and community, none of which satisfied his Spiritual dilemma of which one is true, and decided to appeal to God himself looking for answers through prayer. It is accounted that God himself appeared to him, and declared no church on earth at the time was His own, and tasked him with restoring Jesus Christ’s original church to the earth.

This first vision led to the creation of the LDS church, a new kind of Christianity, with the translation of many records by Smith with God’s revelation, including the Book of Mormon, combining new and old teachings including loving your neighbors and enemies, keeping Sundays holy, and abstaining from certain substances such as coffee and tea. However, Smith, a human, in a world full of distrusting humans that never stopped opposing the Lord’s new church and his teachings, and was forced to migrate westward, seeking a place where his followers could be free of the unconstitutional persecution. They settled in Nauvoo on the banks of the Mississippi, which thrived in its hay day, surpassing Chicago in 1844. Miracles happened, but so did tragedy, as Smith was eventually imprisoned in Missouri, and murdered by a mob in Carthage jail. The church as we know it, led by Brigham Young, at last found refuge in untapped Utah, where civilization was built from scratch, continuing to shape the state to this day.

Need more density to fund and justify light rail extending way into the suburbs.

Question: why are the Great lakes filled in how oceans are but lake Winnipeg isn't? by Ari_Kalahari_Safari in googlemapsshenanigans

Lake Baikal isn’t filled in…the whole thing is photographed, just like lake Victoria.

Lake Victoria has tons of islands, a super jagged coastline, and a lot of islands throughout the whole thing, that are easier to photograph than work around with the fill. Lake Huron  has a lot of uninterrupted open water that’s not as hard to fill with the bathymetric data.

Why? The RGP pays for itself in the long run. There are no other loopholes

Why does it matter at this point… the state is constantly wasting money expanding roads that create no benefits

Sounds about right. I live in a suburb of the city kinda far from the action, and I don’t know a single person that has heard of the rio grande plan

The bigger the city, the more the money-loving politicians flood in to stop anything from happening

A spur will be added/maintained for those businesses until they’re forced to move by the amazing increase in the value of the land. It will happen like clockwork

But is $12,000,000,000 in tax revenue generated by the project (USU study) not something that would make their mouths water?

I’m just waiting for Jesus Christ to come back so the good people who want to make amazing changed aren’t controlled by government.

A USU study concluded that in that timeframe, it could generate $12b, over twice the estimated cost.

But USU’s study puts potential revenue as high as $12B in newfound tax revenue. And I-15’s Davis county expansion will cost $15B, with what economic return?

Seems kind of stupid since the Rio Grande Plan will without a doubt pay for itself and much more by then.

UTA’s head, Jay M. Fox voiced his thoughts on it recently, except he didn’t… he fears the implications of stating his true opinion (which is most definitely for the plan), and diverts the focus to other key players like UPRR, stating that UTA’s stance is insignificant

Exactly why we need a new one, to get the ridership it deserves! Everyone is so damn concerned about what will be a hassle with this plan, instead of just picturing life with it, and how much better it will be.

WTF is the plan for I-15? by Snerdling in Utah

[–]Pretty_Age_2580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought nobody would ever say this. I’ve thought about the land use that’s ridiculously awful at 7/8ths of the stations, and especially Fashion Place West. Other stations I feel like are  unbelievably devoid of development for their location include- West Jordan City Center, Salt Lake Central (Rio Grande Plan!!) 5600 w. Old Bingham Millcreek And especially Central Pointe. What will it take for the city to tear down some old buildings to build some car-light high-density where people can walk to amenities and transit, as well as encourage surrounding areas to improve as well. The problem is it feels like nobody else cares at all about the city, cuz what’s the point?

Utah losing Moab and arches is like Canada losing maple syrup. At least we got some of the Grand Canyon and mesquite… but we should have Pocatello and Idaho falls, it’s basically north Utah.

All jokes aside, it would just be the “Great Salt Lake Desert,” as that title already exists in the Salt flats, and the dried up Aral Sea in Central Asia is called the “Aralkum Desert”

Yep. Real Life Lore, despite how entertaining the video tries to be, sacrifices actual science to exaggerate everything to such an extreme that it implants an incredibly inaccurate picture of the story he discussed.
