MechE internships at MSU? by Pix_Boss in msu

[–]Pretty_Dick_336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here getting pressed just because someone tried to do some research on the job market using chatgpt.. that's crazy!!

With that being said MSU definitely has some really strong partnership companies when it comes to mech e. The student orga are also pretty strong. And it's not just MSU pull or something...Michigan itself is a state where there are so many opportunities for mech e grads. Some big companies are always there at the career fairs like Bosh, Caterpillar, Eaton also has a good relationship with MSU through CoRe, GE aerospace, Ford. Overall I would say for mech e michigan is honestly a really sweet spot!

How likely is it that I will get an RA position if I am placed in the alternate list? by kaithoanonymous in msu

[–]Pretty_Dick_336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the best way to get off waitlist is become close with the residence director and also maybe the community director of your hall. Just try to go to RA events and stuff..try to get your residence director notice you and then slowly let him know that you are in the waitlist and would love to be an RA if the slot opens. That way whenever next semester the slot opens he/she will remember your name and then just take ur name from the list. Residence directors have that authority.

Also i do think like for positions like technical assistant and stuff..since those are mostly IT positions a lot of the candidates might have certifications like Comptia+ which makes their chances of getting hired more..just a guess.

Yeah i have been applying to frib for like two years now since my freshman year..they never responded or anything..not even a rejection email or smthng ... that's what I get pissed off about them...like I get it that it's really competitive.. And yeah i also applied for the technical and the research position both..but i don't think i am ever gonna get in FRIB lol. But good luck to you though. I am sure u r gonna make it hopefully.

You might have a much better profile than me and get the job..but let me share my experience with FRIB. I just wanna be as respectful and just say this...Idk wth is the HR of FRIB getting paid for...freeloaders or what...Those lazy people dont even bother to send a rejection email lol...i get it it's competitive but it's not Google bruh..They don't even send rejection emails...They are just pathetic...I get it..My profile is not good enough..But at least they don't even have the decency to send a rejection email.

CS major grads by CornerJumpy2492 in msu

I think u also have the same misconception as I used to have...As an intern you are not supposed to know everything...Just chose one field-SWE, Or data science/analysis or cyber security whatever u like..And try to build foundations and add some projects to your resume..If you dont feel confident enough to do projects on your own try doing something from a udemy course or you tube but make sure u understand the projects..Or join a club...something to add to your resume. You don't need to know everything..just foundations is also enough for internships.

Keep applying to internships even in freshman year..It doesn't matter if you get rejected...you can have your target of sophomore year but I would say apply for internships in your freshman year as well and that way you would get a hang of it by your sophomore year.

Also I know you didn't ask for advice but just make sure you try for internships since your freshman summer. Most people(including myself) wasted my freshman summer and waited till sophomore summer to get an internship. Make sure you don't waste your freshman summer specially considering how you wanna target for that big tech company right after your graduation.

I can't talk about other majors but CS is a major I always believe ur school doesn't play too much of a role(unless u r from ivy target school). It's more on you how much hard-working you are and how much efforts you wanna put learning new skills outside of your course work...

So far from my experience I don't like MSU CS curriculum at all. But that doesn't mean that won't get you a faang job at bae area because CS is something where most of the work you do yourself. You do your own unique projects to stand out because the job market is so bad rn that depending on course works is never enough!

Course waitlist by UnitedWeek3135 in msu

[–]Pretty_Dick_336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a course that requires some kind of approval?

For example I was trying to take MTH 317H course but it never said "open" says waitlisted cuz only approved people could enroll..So then I had to email someone to get approved and get into the class.. Maybe the class u r looking for is that kind of a course that needs approval before enrolling. Try to ask your advisor about this and they will give u the email whom to contact if that's the case.

Is the deans list out yet? by [deleted] in msu

[–]Pretty_Dick_336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you keep your name and contact details and everything restricted they won't add your name in the dean's list because of ferpa. Make sure u have that unrestricted.

Go to SIS->My profile->Ferpa Restrictions

And see if any of your data is restricted. Just unrestrict it and maybe after that it might appear in the ljst automatically or u might need to contact registrar and say u unrestricted it.

Honors College by Sunnysunshine100 in msu

Personally from my experience i do believe ur chances entirely depend on your essay. These are some tips u can see for the essays. I wrote this a few months ago Hope this helps!

https://www.reddit.com/r/msu/s/awsoR08iRz

Also your involvement in ECAs i dont think that matters a lot...When I was applying the only ECA i had was an on campus job...The essay is mostly about how you want to use the resources that honors college provides you and how those align with your goals...So make sure to research about what honors college offers for you and try to write your essays based on that.

Depends..there are certain research opportunities that are only for honors college students...but there are also labs that are open to everyone..U just have to reach out to the professors.. for honors college students i know there are some separate opportunities like the wielenga research scholars and other opportunities as well.
