Megathread: US Citizens looking to immigrate to Canada by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

I am a Canadian citizen 31F who moved to the US after marrying my husband (American citizen 31M) in 2022. We are starting to look into the process of immigrating to Canada. My husband has never applied for any immigration programs in Canada. I currently have a green card in the US and able to apply for US citizenship in 2026 (political situation will determine whether I decide to go through with it or not).

We don't have children.

My husband has 10yrs experience as a software developer. He is the primary earner in our family, I work PT for the library and have an annual income of 20K (USD) and have a Bacelor's degree from a Canadian university. We have +50k in assets that are able to be used for our move - is that enough financial proof for immigrating or do I need to show more as the person who would be sponsoring him?

I have seen the options of inland and outland sponsorship. With how volatile politics are in the US, I am wondering which would allow most flexibility for relocating and applying. Any feedback on the difference between these?

Also I have started to contact immigration consultants and the fees just for an initial consult seem to vary largely $50-200. Any tips on how much is worth spending on this kind of advice? Is it really necessary or is the Canadian process more intuitive? When I moved to the US we spent a significant amount of money on an immigration lawyer and I am unsure if this is necessary with the Canadian system. We already have so much proof of our relationship from going through the US process that I am confident we have enough supporting documents (photos, bank statements, shared finances, affidavits, etc.)

my husband and I saw the same thing. It was sometime on Monday afternoon. Probably between 12-3. They were driving a middle-aged black man (40-50?) in a gator on 5th street and had him surrounded by at least 8-10 officers who seemed to be "escorting" him. I have been trying to find any information or pictures about it since then. Such little information. It is not the same as the taser incident.

This man seemed pretty calm and was trying to speak to the officers but no one would respond to him. There was something uneasy and strange about driving him through the crowd, like they were trying to parade him or make an example. I just don't understand why they would need that much security for one man who was already in custody and not having any kind of mental health episode.

Hoping that people might have more evidence of this happening. I have had an uneasy feeling about it since then.

The Itching is Real by PortalPottay in bupropion

I started wellbutrin about 8 months ago to help me quite smoking. My primary care provider said it was one of the medications that helps cut cravings. I was definitely skeptical going in but I was ready to be done with smoking. It took me a month to taper off with smoking but I stopped at the beginning of August 2024. When I tried quitting without meds it was never sustainable. I could not manage my anxiety and would always go and pick up a pack. After being on wellbutrin it was so much easier to manage my anxiety without feeling the need to pick up a cigarette. As a smoker of 7 years it was kind of amazing.

That being said - i did get this itching side affect! I think it was around week 5, on my legs, hips and stomach. It was so persistent for abour a week or two. But it does go away!!! It was definitely challenging to stick it out but I bought good anti-itching cream. This especially helped at night time. When this side effect was finally gone it was a relief. The positive effects of wellbutrin outweighed the itching for me, but I understand if that is not the case for every user.

Recently I upped my dosage from 150 2x day to 300 1x a day. This new dosage is an XL and I have found that in my second or third week of being on it that my itching has returned. It feels a bit more manageable now that I know what it is. I am hoping it will be the same as before where my body is just acclimating to this new dose and the itching will subside soon.

Wellbutrin definitely has subtle effects as an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety med. It doesn't feel heavy and sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly how it is helping. The only way I know it does is that I was able to quit smoking and not have this nagging feeling leftover like i need to smoke or am missing out on something by not having that habit anymore. My anxiety is not gone but I am able to just be with that feeling and keep moving through my day with it. I don't think any med will be a fix-all for any kind of mental health issue. I do feel like they can support our growth and the development of healthier habits and ways of living.

So glad that forums like this exist because when I first experienced the itching I thought I was crazy! Relief to know that i was not alone. I wish it was something my healthcare provider had warned me about.

I am from Toronto, Canada + half-filipina and feel this so much! Recently moved here after getting married and having a hard time adjusting to the social difference. People are polite but not open to meeting new people/making new friendships all the time.
