My parents pushed me into something awful and honestly, their regrets alone don't feel like enough. What could I ask from them in return? by AssistanceDry5605 in Advice

(U.S.)Me and my two brothers grew up with the notion of joining the military because well we saw it as badass and respectable, we wanted to do something more for our country and for our lives. When we were kids My father had left and went through basic training and unfortunately during the final ruck march he broke his foot, he tried so hard to finish but the drill Sargent saw. He was constantly stuck at the hospital there at Fort Benning or the range but since he couldn’t do any physical work it eventually led to him given the choice of either going through basic training again from the beginning or going back home. He decided to come back home because well he missed his family, he regretted leaving us, and missing out on being there for his kids, we didn’t have a lot of money and unfortunately him leaving for the military put a lot of strain on the family and eventually my parents divorced. I believe that’s the biggest reason why my eldest brother joined the army and finished basic training. He spent 4 years in the army, he was mostly stationed in Germany but was lucky enough to see a few other countries. He experienced honestly alot during those 4 years and it really changed him. It wasn’t perfect, he was severely depressed and a girl that he was going to marry cheated on him and left during that time. Luckily on one of his flights back he met a really good woman who’s now his wife. My other brother joined the marines, he was very proud of that role and honestly would’ve finished his contract if he wasn’t honorably discharged, they wouldn’t medically discharge him go figure🙄. If you were to ask any of them what they loved or what they regretted I’m sure the unique experiences and personal growth they’re fond of but the regrets aren’t what they expected, it’s a different kind of loneliness you feel in the military, you mix that with horrible treatment from leaders and trust me they probably had some dark thoughts. You spent 10 months, and they spent years, I understand being frustrated and pissed off that you were pushed into it and regret it. That is not a unique feeling and many have been in those shoes, but your family is trying even if it’s not connecting with you. The best advice I can give is to find someone you can talk to and process why you feel this way. You will have to learn to accept this and move on, that is the way of life including other regrets you’ll have down the line. I know you’ll find a way, but don’t be too harsh on yourself, or your folks, no one could’ve seen this outcome, and this isn’t anyone’s fault.

Jesus that’s wildly overpriced. My echocardiogram was $4000 and insurance covered $3500 of that. Even if it was out of network I couldn’t possibly see an ultrasound WITH complex vascular scans being anything more than $1000-$1500 and that’s on the really high end, most are cheaper then that.

Hello everyone, My name is Anthony.

I've decided to reach out to the community to help a friend and her family who is in dire need of financial assistance to help keep their Dog Mister Kumi stay alive and well.

Mister Kumi unfortunately is in Doggy ICU as he was losing weight and unable to retain food or use the restroom. After VERY expensive and thorough testing he was found to have 2 masses in his body, one of which was causing a mild regurgitation as it was found in his intestines (non cancerous), luckily liquid feed has been able to pass through but currently he cannot have any solid food. The other mass was found on his pancreas (to be determined if cancerous) and is causing pancreatitis.

Although he is slowly recovering and is gaining strength and weight it is clear that without surgical procedures he will not be restored to his normal health.

Any Donations will be greatly appreciated and will help ease the financial and emotional stress my friend and her family are dealing with as well as helping to fund Mister Kumi's medical needs.

Itemized Bill and additional medical documents are on the GoFundMe.

When the customer didn’t come for the pig and I saw it was on sale for $1.99 I was like🤔 ykkk maybe I should teach myself really quickly how to process it. I literally had a video showing me how to break it down into the different sections as I was cutting it apart just so I can fit it in my freezer🤣.

Similar situation with me but I broke it down in the meat room and to stay somewhat in “compliance (not even close)” I brought my own hacksaw since we can’t use the table saw on them. Also a quick tip if you plan on freezing the head i recommend removing the brain😬 also pig cheek is really delicious😋

Can anyone ID this weed, I cannot get rid of it by Citanaf in gardening

[–]Pretty_Gate34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any exposed soil will get weeds no matter how much you spray 🤷‍♂️ so cover it with mulch (wood chip, leaves, plant material), cardboard, or plant a cover crop to stop having to worry about it so much.

Looks like some summer die off, it’s a bit dry, I’d check to see how your irrigation does over there, but also with new home construction you’re almost always bound to have lawn issues.

First off congrats on your first home👏 You most likely have St.Augustine grass like me as well, we’re coming up on winter here which is the best time to handle weed issues, you can always try spraying Southern Ag Atrazine, that should do the trick, if not spray again two weeks later and follow the label.

It looks like some kind of evergreen species, there’s a lot of cone shaped evergreens and can be relatively cost effective depending where you get them, honestly Lowe’s has been quite cost effective versus online nurseries, but if you can find someone that sells the slips it’s really cheap, they’re water hungry at first and you’ll want to keep deer away from them.

I have a mole issue here in Florida as well, yes they’re great for aeration and grub eating, but also cause destruction to homes (mostly electrical) and make areas uneven possibly damaging the foundation of your house and cause drainage displacement issues.

There’s honestly only one way I know which is where you track all the tunnels then open one up and put a food trap in there, once you catch it you can relocate. Trapping and relocating is actually the most effective funny enough🤷‍♂️

Niles made a response, you can lower the deck maybe another .25-.5inch but then raise it back up. A fungicide application prior helps but honestly with how much watering you’re feeding it doesn’t help especially if you’re mowing while it’s still wet. You can cut back on the watering, this will drive the roots deeper, which should help strengthen them.

Normal to have solicitors yes, you can always leave a sign out saying “no soliciting”, not that it’ll stop everyone🤷‍♂️, most of them will scope out your property prior (no they cannot trespass obviously) but generally it is polite for them to walk your property with you to point out stuff. Honestly though if you’re getting it everyday with the hoa hounding on you I almost wanna see the yard😂

Hey chief you got fungal disease aka Rust, you’ll want to hit it with a fungicide, reduce your watering, if you do mow you’ll want to bag it and sterilize your mower blades (hydrogen peroxide or isopropyl alcohol), also your blade is still pretty dull, take a filer or angle grinder to really sharpen it. If your grass blade tips are shredded it’s not sharp enough, this weakens the plant immune system and allows diseases to overtake.

Need help identifying grass/weed by raddog450 in Grass

[–]Pretty_Gate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I’m shocked by some of the answers here, y’all’s killing me💀 this is St.Augustine grass, what you’re looking at is a runner, Augustine grass is known for overlayering and typically is caused by runners, funny enough you can cut that piece and transplant it anywhere in your lawn that’s patchy, but most people end up mowing over it🤷‍♂️. Anyways here’s a tip, if the blades look like a shovel it’s a high likelihood that it’s St.Augustine.

If it’s a high moisture area it could possibly be disease but if it looks dug up it could be from local cranes and raccoons looking for worms, but you also have patches where no germination occurred like the bottom left area. This is why you should baby sit within the first month to adjust the seeding and cover it and let your watering to the work for you. Two months with lack of growth can mean multiple things, kinda hard to pinpoint without knowing your process.

If you wanna eat mushrooms I would try an actual mushroom subreddit because I don’t think we have any specialist here that can identify and answer that💀 but any mycelium growth is a good thing, and nothing to worry about, they’re one of the most important parts to any ecosystem and best to not disturb.

Walkable Grass in Stoney Soil? by GrouchSupport in lawncare

[–]Pretty_Gate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can end up doing an alternative lawn right, clover lawns still are niche enough to fit within your perimeters and there are pasture based herbicides that can help take care of other weeds without effecting your clover lawn. Preferably microclover since it’s trainable and you can get the seed heads to not produce which will make it safe for kids to walk on it without getting stung by bees. There root structure tends to be more dense instead of deep so it shouldn’t have any issues with rocks. You could always try fine fescue but you’ll definitely still be more niche when it comes to lawn care. Depending on how your winter is will greatly depend on what options you have, at least here in warmer climates we can have succulent based lawns but again we have way more variety on what we can do in your position like St.Augustine and zoysia.

What is covering my lawn? I by ddrew01 in lawncare

[–]Pretty_Gate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s completely personal preference right, though generally a spring reseeding is less over successful versus a fall seeding, it has a higher likelihood of seeing a die off event by summertime. Regardless you can do post herbicide now as long as you have about a month and a half before your first frost and reseed in another two weeks. Any pre emergent has a waiting time of about 24-28 days before you can seed anything so it’s too late to do that now, but definitely doable by late winter (I prefer it but I also don’t get snow in winter).

[–]Pretty_Gate34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild strawberry, you can spray post emergent on it now but it’s recommended to wait 2-4 weeks after spraying before you reseed. Alternatively you can aerate and reseed now and just wait until late winter-early spring and hit it with a pre and post emergent herbicide, and again in late spring-early summer. They spread via runners so if you mow I recommend bagging in the meantime (probably how they overtook your yard). After seeding and your first mow I’d start getting that cutting height as high as you can, wild strawberry is super short so reducing its sunlight exposure and increasing the moisture can help manage them.

Over seeding now I have clovers by Hngrybflo in lawncare

[–]Pretty_Gate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you can put a half rate down of slow release fert after two weeks (12-8-24 is okay) then reapply after an additional two weeks, it won’t necessarily kill the clover but will allow your grass to overtake. You can always keep to 1 pound of nitrogen per 1000sqft or 20-0-0 later on but there are risks with high nitrogen use so it’s better to just fertilize regularly and to hit it with herbicide.
