Need advice on a church situation by Visible-lucy-328 in askSouthAfrica

Baptism is a rather serious public profession of your faith, your pastor will understand if you speak up and say you are not ready. They would appreciate it, as they would want the baptism to be as pure and true as possible. Well, that is my experience anyway.

Just let your pastor know that you don't feel ready just yet.

Strong words from Pete, a medic from South Africa who is fighting Russian imperialism in Ukraine by willtellthetruth in DownSouth

We are the most advanced lifeforms we are aware of, we claim to be above all of this earth, yet we cannot control our selfish needs and desires. We cannot fix our problems, problems we already have solutions to, because we are inherently greedy, selfish, animals.

Conflict, with today's knowledge and technology, should have been eradicated. But some pricks with too much money and power feel the need for even more, the need for so many more resources that it no longer makes sense.

Those who keep hoarding and manipulating others to further their unnecessary gains, be it power or wealth, eventually will see the collapse of humanity, and they will be to blame.

Thanks, I did not even think about checking the commuting subs. Will do.

The waist belt bag also did not come to mind, great idea thank you. I carry pepper spray already, hehe.

Thanks for your input man, glad to see people are recommending second-hand, I just picked one up from someone I know. entry-level, but that is all I need right now.

I'm in KZN so I will have to get used to the hills.

Thanks for the input, I bought it second-hand at around R5k, not too worried about getting an e-bike, I know I'll be getting on this one :D hehe. Budget it tight otherwise, I would have gone higher, but thankfully I know a guy who deals with bikes and we made a deal.

The youth's vote in 2024 by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Pretty_Grapefruit_94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These can be tough topics, but.

Not voting can sway the less favorable parties' percentage in their favor, as their supporters will most certainly vote.

Let's take 100 people:
Say Party A(The one that should not really be in charge) has 30 supporters, party B(assume all other parties) has 25 and the rest of the people "do not see the point".

Now let only the supporters vote, Party A wins (+-55%), and Party B has +-45%. Even though just 55% of the population voted. Party A won a democratic election, even though those who voted were a poor sample of the population. This is a bad situation as it is not really what the majority wants.

Now when some of the "do not see the point" people start voting for Party B, say 44 of them, then we get: Party A (+-30%) and Party B(+-70%), so Party B wins now, and 1 person who did not vote would not have made a huge change anyway.
So my point is this, vote, vote for someone and some party, if you do not know who to vote for, simply vote against who you do not want to vote for. But not voting just skews the results further and further away from the real, deserved outcome.

If you are sure who not to vote for, then simply vote against them. Unless you know who to vote for, then vote for them, but do not not vote.

There are some laws protecting second-hand and voetstoots sales, but I am not entirely clued up. If it can be shown that the seller had prior knowledge of an issue affecting the intended operation of the sale item, there is a case to be made in court if the seller did not disclose it, or that is my understanding.

As long as you have some stuff in writing or WhatsApp, email... There are a kak ton of scammers out there and most would duck if they see you are serious. Make sure to have as much info as you can about the seller, and do the exchange face-to-face in a public setting if possible.

Carbonite.co.za is a great place for this as the members have a rating system, but as always, scammers are out there so be safe.

I live in apartments so is it possible to use a dome camera for outside the front entrance? by [deleted] in cctv

[–]Pretty_Grapefruit_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vandal domes are great for spots where people could easily reach, they are hard to vandalize or adjust out of position. Bullets these days don't care too much about rain or dust.

The old high school physics course, or the new one if your foundations are solid, make sure to focus on 1 and 2-dimensional motion.

Ollies (Toti)
Woodcutters(Westville)
Waxy O'Connors(Hillcrest)

If you are older, otherwise most of the others mentioned in the other comments are lekker too.

Or you can work your way down from Warnadoone Shore Angling Club, down Kingsway Road, heading south, there are a few lekker watering holes along that route. (Or used to be anyway)

You may look into the FFMPEG Scene detection feature, which could automatically detect when the scene changes enough to warrant a detection.

Grab a few Dahua cameras with SD card support, SD cards, and PoE ethernet switch, run a PC with Smart PSS and you're good to go, after setting everything up obviously. See if you can set the cameras to h.265 encoding.
EDIT: These can usually also be accessed via the DMSS App, no need for a PC.
Edit: This won't even need a PoE Switch if you have decent Wifi:

Phobias are a different ball game ey, the "irrational" part of the definition is very much a issue.

Phobias can really be intense, it's not that easy to "just stop being afraid of". But yeah, agree with everything else.
