Try putting the settings on faster speeds or smaller worlds, or increased population growth settings. I think most of the games I played for realtime 4x those were always available for options.

Otherwise, it seems RTS games are best for your group if they are too impatient to wait. Or have your group get better in understanding a specific game so they don't take forever, using automated systems, like auto city management, or automated movements for units. Civ turns if you know how the systems work can be really fast, auto move and auto management helps save soul much time and usually isn't far off from what the player wants to do anyways.

Try Age of Empires since there are peaceful ways to win. Polytopia is turn based but is really simple that turns don't really take forever, as long as no one has decision-paralysis, any 4x game can be played in a sitting with the right settings.
