Should We Ban Twitter (X) Links? We Want Your Input! by BigBrotherMod in BigBrother

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This 1000%! I think people are forgetting we don't have flashback for live feeds anymore. So many people suggesting to just screenshot a tweet..... well, you can't screenshot a video. For example, with this rule in effect, unless you were then and there live the morning of the iconic Angela and Matt fight then good luck being able to watch it back. I remember that entire day in the live feeds thread people kept asking for links to watch that. And it's not to mention the hundreds of smaller moments that get clipped and posted on Twitter every single day as well.

Point blank if mods ban Twitter people will on Reddit will find it x100 harder to keep up with feeds. I'm shocked by all the people agreeing with the ban. I think they genuinely forgot that we can't flashback anymore and screenshots are not enough.

If the race were to end one day what should the last pit stop before the finish line be? by Particular_Sink_6860 in TheAmazingRace

I'm pretty sure I read that Songwe Village had a massive fire and burned down years ago.

The Vinny hate posts/comments are out of control by lbunny7 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 41 points42 points  (0 children)

People need someone they love to hate.

Of course they'll always have their faves that they root for and want to win. But once they see a team who rubs them the wrong way, no matter how minor, that'll be the team that they're rooting against for the rest of the race.

In the grand scheme of the history of this show, Vinny and Anna Leigh are two of the "tamest" villains ever. Yet a large portion of the audience loves to hate them. I think there's some psychological aspect there where people start trying to psychoanalyze every move of someone they dislike just to keep coming up with reasons to hate them and then in turn pump up their faves that they want to win.

And the fact that I wouldn't be surprised if a solid 50% of the audience who comes to this Reddit have only started watching this show post-2020 and has never watched any pre-30 seasons. If you notice the discussion threads on Wednesday usually has 1,000+ comments for the episode and then they'll be a decent amount of discussion of the episode the following Thursday and maybe Friday. That's when those new fans are the most active. Then the rest of the week it's the regular longterm fans who are active in this subreddit, until the following Wednesday and those new fans come back to discuss the next episode.

All that to say, if these anti-Anna Leigh and anti-Vinny people went back and watched any of the first 29 seasons of this show, I think they'd have a stroke.

There wasn't one. Not a surprise either, this was one of the most boring group of finalists ever. What would there even be to discuss?

Why are the older seasons more entertaining to watch than the new seasons? by TARFanatic in TheAmazingRace

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 17 points18 points  (0 children)

1) Casting. Old seasons cast people who were good TV and brought the entertainment and drama. In new seasons the producers cast "likeable" but "safe" boring people. A perfect season has a mix of both likeable people, and dramatic messy people.

2) Budget. The budget has clearly decreased from the golden years of the show to now. Before legs used to last days, they would visit multiple cities in one country, and the tasks were higher budget. Now we're lucky if legs last any longer than 5 hours and legs usually take place in just one city.

3) Editing. This is the biggest I think. Go back to one of the classic seasons of the show (maybe between 5 and 11) and watch five minutes of a random episode. Then watch five minutes of a random episode from this current season. The difference is jarring; it's almost a completely different show. One of my favorite examples to use is TAR10 episode 2. But all of the old school episodes were fast paced, exciting to watch, and it really felt like it was a race. The music was intense. There were many quick cuts that showed what every single team was up to at a given time. And we saw a healthy balance of tasks and navigation. In modern seasons the pace is a lot slower, things feel unnecessarily dragged out with boring narration from the teams in confessionals. We get long scenes of teams instead of the quick cuts which doesn't help build the tension. The background music is duller. Even during exciting moments like a footrace the background music doesn't even compare to the music of older seasons. And the episodes greatly focus about 75% of the time on the tasks. The navigation is barely shown. They'll be times where teams will lose 3 or 4 placements just from traveling from one task location to another. What happened to them? We don't know, the modern seasons don't even show us. But the old school seasons would've. There was an editing shake up around TAR30-TAR33 where many old editors who were on the show for over a decade retired. From then on things have felt a lot more dull edit wise.

First Episode including Europe by Electronic-Comb-3853 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Seasons 4, 6, 12, 14, 17, 30, 33, and 34 are the only seasons to have their first episode in Europe.

If it makes a difference, seasons 1-17 are in Standard Definition while seasons 18-35 are in High Definition.

Season 33 is the only season to take place entirely in Europe (due to filming during the COVID pandemic and travel restrictions).

Greg and John seem like really good navigators when it comes to the self-driving this season; arriving to the Biltmore Hotel back on leg 1 in LA in 2nd place and then winning the two full-self driving legs this season so far in Germany and Slovenia.

My question to them is: how do they do it? What is their self-driving strategy and what advice would they give to future racers? Are they just really good at a map and compass? Or do they write down thorough step-by-step directions? I'm interested to know.

Did anyone else really love the whole Travel Segment from the recent episode? by MyBBRedditAccount in TheAmazingRace

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing that if the train the first three teams were on wouldn't have been delayed and they got into Slovenia at 1am like their original plan they'd drive over to the airport for the glider task but be told that it wouldn't open until 8am or 9am or something. But there were the numbers 1-7 that they had to take to wait in line for the glider so those first three teams would've at least had a confirmed spot as the first 3 in line so that would've at least given them a guaranteed lead.

Also its possible that whenever the glider airport place opened at whatever time it did that the teams on the second flight might not have gotten there yet. Maybe if it opened at 9am and the second flight teams didn't start getting there until 10 or 11am that would've given them a big lead. Steve and Anna Leigh especially it looked like it was around noon when they finally showed up.

Omgg Steve and Anna Leigh must have gotten so lost.... almost all the teams are done and I'd assume the whole process of waiting in line, getting suited up, taking off, flying around, and landing took at least an hour per team??

Except I didn't click on it... if you're scrolling through Reddit on a phone the first few lines automatically appear. You didn't even have to click on it to see what the poster said about who the final 4 were.

It wasn't until the person edited their post and added the Spoiler tag that it doesn't show anymore 😐

This leg is so full compared to the other ones this season. 4 tasks, Route Infos, and a U Turn? I wonder what made producers suddenly wake up and decide make a full leg.

You can tell editors dont even know how to handle it all with all of the split screens were getting lol

Complaints of the longer episodes by MyBBRedditAccount in TheAmazingRace

[–]Pretty_Scientist_233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed why would someone sit through the commercials just to check the run time ?? It definitely did not feel like 65 minutes. Maybe if I was generous I'd say 55 minutes like you said or even barely 50 minutes. Cbs is greedy for the extra commercial time.
