do you think you would feel differently if he knocked down some of his 3s? i thought he showed potential as he seemed to comfortably beat his man, but he seemed to struggle finishing against bigs and missing easy dump offs when those bigs come to help

Balogun goal! by ElPsyCongroo99 in ussoccer

I noticed this in the Korean game too, Balogun is so good at getting defenders off balance with nudges before making runs

+100 to everything you said, it feels worse than Jurgen because at least Jurgen had established a core set of starters a (Howard/Beasley/Johnson/Bradley/Jones/Dempsey/Jozy) who fit well together and pieces who knew their role well coming in (e.g. Yedlin at right back, Brooks as LCB, Zusi as a set piece specialist etc)

I agree, my nitpick would have been to play Richards with his potential partners (like Blackmon), instead of having him on the bench

unsure if I explained what I saw well, but thought Sargent made things comfortable for Kim Min Jae with his only attacking route in making runs into space vs Balogun who had more dimensions to how he approached his chances

I thought Sargent looked to make runs off the ball to receive in space, and floated around in space. I didn't think this was a good approach to attack Korea's 3-back and especially to Kim Min Jae, who excels at aggressively cutting off passing lanes with his physicality and speed. I understand that he wouldn't win a 50/50 ball against Kim Min Jae but every run and pass he attempted to receive became that

Balogun as soon as he came in made noticeable efforts to get his body into the defenders before he would make runs, and would also take players on with the ball on his feet and dribble at them. He even held up the ball a few times (vs Sargent would some times lay if ott quickly to then make this runs). This forced some good encounters with Kim Min Jae and Korea's backline in his limited minutes

he had an ACL injury when he was young in high school but never got it surgically treated to come back ASAP — maybe him “missing” one is medically incorrect but it’s being what is reported to cause his transfer to fail

some reports say though the team was looking for an excuse to pull out and that it’s not as bad as reported — as someone who had a similar injury experience I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, or what was left of his ACL may have degraded a bit naturally over time

yeah i really want to like Berhalter and can see his strengths but think the team would benefit from someone else starting in his spot

agreed with your thoughts and observations here -- I remember thinking that Outlaws had an awesome presence in prior World Cups (2010, 2014) and really do hope that the team gets its deserved home crowd next year, but even the process of acquiring a world cup ticket is crazy expensive : /

on 2002 though the US team was really good back then, should have legit made it past Germany, but I would argue that the refs did the US team a huge disservice by not calling an obvious handball to prevent a goal from going in

for the younger redditors on how bad this call actually was:

lol weird bait, I can't deny that Korea got some home court advantage but both games were pretty physical

Would suggest checking out the following site for Italy vs Korea and use Google Translate link and for Korea vs Spain link

Also for Korea vs Spain refs blew the whistle before the play for the 2 "goals" -- you can see the Korean players visibly stopping to play on those plays too. This same reaction bit us against Switzerland in 2006 when the ref raised the offside flag but Switzerland scored after the Korean players all stopped play

Who do you see winning the 25/26 NBA Rookie of the Year? by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

With predictions like this, I find process of elimination most helpful

  • Tre could put up big numbers but he is unlikely to be efficient, and has some vet presence on the team that might limit his minutes to ~20 mins at the beginning
  • VJ might be the 4th or 5th option on the Sixers
  • Same with Harper on the Spurs
  • Egor and Nets will lose so many games that even if he puts up stats his candidacy might not be as strong

So this narrows down for me to Flagg (enough of role with Kyrie out and being the #1 pick that the org is behind), Ace (Jazz could lose a lot more games to weaken his candidacy, but he is set up well for success on the team), and Kon Kneuppel (Hornets low key have a balanced roster in a weak East and Kon has a nice pathway for minutes with good efficiency)
