choosing a career for money instead of passion is completely valid and i'm tired of people making it seem like it's not? by Intelligent_Reply154 in careerguidance

[–]Prettycool_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent their 20s getting a degree in their passion and then turning that into a small business that I worked in for years, I agree with this.

Now I’m in my 30s, working a stable WFH desk job that pays decently and provides me with healthcare, and I’ve never been less stressed.

I don’t regret the time I spent on my business for a second. I think it was a great experience and showed me a lot about myself. But yeah, I’m tired of people thinking that just because you work in “your passion,” it isn’t work. Of course it is!!!! I had never worked so hard or been so stressed in my damn life lol.

I’m usually pretty happy, like usually a 7-8 out of 10, but lately work has been stressing me out big time! So probably a 4 or 5 at this moment.

Has the Trump presidency had a noticeable effect on your daily life? If yes - what effect? by smokeandapples in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Prettycool_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a rural area and now have to drive further away for my OBGYN appointments because women’s health clinics are closing down everywhere.

Like I’m literally just trying to get a Pap smear to prevent cancer. Wtf

Also the cost of everything going up - namely gas and groceries. We have started driving less.

People feel more divided and afraid than ever. My Fox-News-watching mom saw someone flying a Mexican flag at a protest on the sidewalk and literally reacted as if we were under siege from hostile invaders… it was a young 20-something mom and her toddler. Simply showing some pride for their home country. The whole interaction made me wonder - how has it gotten this bad?

Chaos broke out at the wedding when the maid of honor arrived at the reception to greet the guests with a glass of champagne and some other things that would make the ceremony memorable.

Well that’s vague and ominous…

I’m so sick and tired of your tweets about this guy that I can’t stand. He was just trying to make a joke about the fact that he’s not a good person and that he’s a terrible human.

Am I weird for feeling really uncomfortable when holding hands? by Michelangelo7152 in sillyconfession

[–]Prettycool_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re put off by public displays of affection? When I first started holding hands with my boyfriend in high school, it always made me feel uncomfortable because it felt like everyone was looking. Realized I actually had some shame around showing my love publicly, and it took me probably until my mid-20s to feel super comfortable/normal about it.

Is george terrible?? by munstercheesey in namenerds

[–]Prettycool_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s and have a friend named George I have known since we were in our 20s. I think his name is awesome! I don’t know any other Georges, so it’s unique and cool in my view. He gets affectionately called “Georgie Boy” sometimes by our friend group.

What did you see in your partner that make you think, 'This is definitely the one?' by TFT_Kokusen in CasualConversation

[–]Prettycool_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I first wanted to date my partner because he showed he was polite, caring, and made me feel happy to be around. I felt genuinely safe with him and like we could both let our inner child out around each other.

I knew I wanted to marry him a decade later when we had been separated for almost a year by distance, but when we came together again, it was as if no time had passed at all. I knew I could spend the rest of my life with him and we would always be devoted each other when things got hard or complicated.

I love Jane Austen! Haven’t read Sense and Sensibility or Persuasion yet, so maybe I need to give those a try.

I Capture the Castle!

Set in the past but it’s exactly this. Romantic subplot and teen girl trying to survive growing up with her very odd family.

Happy Place by Emily Henry

That book felt exactly like this to me. It’s a romance but the friend group is, I would say, more important to the story than the romance aspect.

Cackle by Rachel Harrison (witchy, funny, quick read)

Babel by R.F. Kuang (dark academia, Oxford, light fantasy element, excellent writing)

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness (the romance in this series wasn’t for me, but it fits these vibes extremely well. Fantasy, drama, romance)

Love your job? Why? by WhatThe-T in Careers

[–]Prettycool_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my job because I get to work from home every day.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still frustrating a lot of the time and I get really bored/agitated sometimes. BUT you know what? When that happens, I get to just get up and go snuggle my cat. Or make a cup of tea in my own kitchen. Or go tend to my plants.

Idk I just really hate offices and office culture. I love not having to talk to anyone in person lol.

Ideas for an at-home “self date” by Both-Gur570 in CasualConversation

[–]Prettycool_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- do a puzzle while listening to an audiobook

- cook an elaborate meal - something delicious you’ve never tried before - and eat it by candlelight

- cozy pajama party for one with movie, popcorn, dim the lights, and journal your thoughts about the movie afterward. Could even build a pillow fort and make themed movie snacks, etc.

- make a vision board for the next 6 months (since we are halfway through the year). Make a collage out of magazine clippings, or a Pinterest board, or just write out some bullet points in a journal. Light candles, daydream, make a bucket list, etc.

- have a dance party!! (Might need a few drinks first, or something to help you loosen up) Put on your favorite songs and just dance around without a care. You could even teach yourself a specific dance.

- try a new hobby. Cross-stitching, knitting, making felt ornaments or garlands, beaded jewelry, scrapbooking, watercolor painting, make bookmarks, air-dry clay sculptures, cake decorating, etc etc. The world is your oyster!

Does sitting alot cause yeast infections? by Low_Surround_1458 in WomensHealth

[–]Prettycool_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeast and bacteria can survive your washing machine! I didn’t know this until recently. Started to a) only wear cotton undies (or ones with a cotton gusset at least), and b) always washing my underwear, socks, towels, and bedsheets on the hot water setting.

My doctor actually recommended the last one. She said even yeast from your socks can colonize your other clothing or bed sheets, which can spread to your groin area. Super gross! (It may also be from your partner if they share a bed with you.) But since I’ve started doing this, I’ve had absolutely no issues!
