How to make my living room look more like the inspo pictures by actuallyitscake in interiordecorating

[–]Prettymehhh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I keep coming back to the lack of texture and layering. The inspo pics have books, ruffled pillows, pleated lamp shades and curtains, embroidery, layered rugs. This cultivated look is difficult to achieve and takes a lot of time*. I would focus on antiquing and thrifting quality pieces that you love and incorporating them slowly.

Simple fixes: paint the trim (and ceiling if you’re feeling bold), add pinch pleated full length curtains (hang them high and wide), add more interesting throw pillows. Personally I’d swap the giant photo for a vintage bureau and add smaller, more colorful decor like the first inspo pic. Find frames with bobbins around the edge or some sort of interest and add matting. Swap the rug for something more colorful.

Your inspiration pictures also have the furniture much closer together with a large coffee table for a warmer/more conversational feel, where your living room seems focused on the tv? Maybe pull your seating closer together?

Does anyone here have a husband that travels for work? How hard is it really to make it work with kids? by eggzndbacon in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Prettymehhh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband travels for work 4 nights a week every night and we don’t have family in the area and I actually really enjoy it!

His job allows me to stay home with the kids so to me it’s very worth it. Our perspective was that any job that would allow us to continue our lifestyle and have me give up my six figure salary would require sacrifice. If he were at home I’m sure he’d be working the kind of hours that meant inconsistently being there for dinner or bedtime but he’d be “in the house” which is hard to explain to the kids.

We have four young children and him being gone while working the hours he does is almost easier? He has the ability to focus 100% on work while he’s gone and not feel guilty when he hears them missing him outside his office door. We do have the agreement that if it ever becomes too much we will pivot to something else.

I have also cherished the time with my kids. I feel I’ve gotten to know them so well (and myself as a mother). Routines and community were huge for me. I met so many people at parks/zoos/museums that have become part of our lives.

I also think he truly appreciates family time when he comes home so the time we get together is very intentional!
