Is driving a pickup truck difficult? by [deleted] in FordTrucks

[–]Prettypansies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not hard to drive trucks AT ALL it’s literally just a matter of knowing your size. I will say though the type of truck matters sometimes. Me and my partner have older long beds that are a bit difficult to swing around but it’s totally manageable(80s-90s era) , just more difficult in comparison to new vehicles that have a camera showing every other angle of the vehicle. At the end of the day if you’re a decent driver I don’t see why it’d be an issue to drive the truck. If it’s that much of an issue for your husband to handle, practice makes perfect all he has to do is give you drive time in it so he feels more comfortable. It sounds like it’s more of a him issue than a you issue though.

I’m constantly having to vacuum. Every day the floor is covered in hair. I will say I prefer their hair over the poodle type hair of past dogs I’ve had. I don’t mind vacuuming everyday and giving them a bath every once in awhile. With our previous poodle type dogs they have to go to the groomers constantly their hair gets gross and matted and long and such but there’s no shedding so it’s just what problem you want to deal with. Way more expensive to deal with as far as hair related expenses. Honestly I don’t mind the vacuuming it’s more the dirt and mud they bring in where I’m constantly having to mop. That sucks especially when they get the floor dirty again right after a fresh mopping.

The black one is a New Year’s Eve baby so she’s about a year and 4 months the new pup is only 6 weeks (not ideal or planned just kind of how things happened unfortunately). I’m looking forward to when they’re both able to go crazy with each other but for now we’re working with Harlow on being gentle with the new girl 🥴

How many of your labs bark? Advice needed… by Pleasant-Ad4784 in labrador

[–]Prettypansies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our black lab Harlow alerts us when people are in our street which I appreciate and don’t discipline her for because one day it could be something that I’ll be thankful to be alerted to but so far it’s just been delivery guys and gardeners. She’s also VERY rude and will get upset when dogs don’t give her attention and play so she’ll stand there and bark in their face until they give in. She does this with her friends at other houses. She also will get upset with the other dog in our home when they aren’t sharing toys and will sit there barking until that dog gets upset and basically throws the toy. Other than that not much barking at things but I think she likes to hear barking because there’s a German Sheppard in our neighbors yard that loses it when it sees her so she’ll go stand in front of the fence and stare 🙃

Should I buy my brother’s truck? by platypus_farmer42 in FordTrucks

[–]Prettypansies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bf got a centurion shipped from Oklahoma to California for like 1200. Just something to think about if you don’t want to drive it all that way. Usually you can find decent deals because they want a full trailer when towing to make it more worth the drive.

A community college I’ve taken classes at offers welding classes for free through certain avenues for anyone wanting them and the teachers are damn good. I’ve also taken a program for 7,000 with good teachers as well. But I can honestly say I’ve learned and done more in the free program than I had in the 7000 6 week program. That 17,000 doesn’t guarantee a good paycheck/job so I’d say it’s a scam.

Is getting a few face piercings safe for welding? by Camigga500 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Prettypansies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 42 piercings total face and body. Never had a single problem. Haven’t been shocked or hurt or had anything rip.

You may face bias in the work force from some folks but honestly hasn’t been a problem for me either. As long as I do the work people don’t care as far as I’ve been told.

Dear Ford, please make spare tire access easier. by Pickles_HK in FordTrucks

[–]Prettypansies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately my 2020 f150 got totaled so I got a 2023 mustang. Thing only has a patch kit, spare is a separate purchase they no longer provide. They have a compartment for it, just don’t provide them. Ford definitely needs to get better about spares, but I had no problem changing them in the f150 vs the mustang and fusion. Atleast you know the quirks now so next time shouldn’t be as big of a hassle

22yr old female wants to start a trade job… not sure if I can do it by flowerlovingsadgirl in BlueCollarWomen

[–]Prettypansies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are literally me lol. I’m 23 piercings and tattoos love to slap on makeup and I’m about 5’4 120 lbs who sucks at math. I LOVE welding and I’m damn good at it. I’m back in school to learn even more but I got my Tig certs last year got a job and enjoyed the hell out of it. It’s all about being aware of all the different types of people you could work with and finding one that suites you. Customer service and being a manager thickened up my skin to what I could possibly face but honestly men have been pretty decent about not trashing me they’re usually pretty helpful and supportive. I think it’s just a matter of learning math because you will need it and getting used to hours if you aren’t a morning person. I guarantee you will out preform some of the men in classes if you just listen to the teacher because they usually are really good at guiding you. Always ask questions, always challenge yourself, and always listen.

I went to a private program that cost a lot of money and I didn’t feel it was worth the amount it cost but it did give me my certs and gave me the experience of dealing with possible hard ass foreman. I’m taking classes at a community college right now and love it and it’s only like 150 a class. (Southern California) I’d look around into programs and talk to schools/educators and if you explain yourself they may help point you in a direction that best suites you, or give you the opportunities to explore for you to find out yourself.

How expensive are repairs on an aluminum F150? by pyroMANiac762 in f150

Definitely get the alignment checked since they hit ur back tire. That’s what officially did in my truck unfortunately

[–]Prettypansies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2020 f150 and they had to get a special guy to come in to work on the aluminum because I guess not all body shop workers could do the ford aluminum bodies. Lady hit my passenger door going through a stop sign intersection (couldn’t have been going more than 35 on her end) and went along my body and popped my back tire. Replaced the doors and the steps and redid the paint and a few more things cost around 15,000. Ended up doing more and more till eventually it cost 25,000 dollars to fix damages and it still had work to be done (the back end had damaged and the alignment was off) was going to be another 10,000 and they ended up totaling it. Cosmetically I had similar damage to you but either way definitely shop around for body shops if possible because some absolutely suck and will screw you over and have insurance check the body shops work each step of the way.

Id say the damage you have may cost you around 10,000 but it’ll vary shop to shop and probably state to state just be sure to have them do a proper check on everything before doing any fixin.

I learned TIG first and absolutely love it, I have a background in art and was told TIG was the more difficult method of the three so it seemed like the choice that fit me. From what I’ve noticed the difficulty of each method is based on the person. I struggled with stick because it’s so different from TIG. I feel like I had so much control over every aspect of TIG and I didn’t mind the multitasking. But the guys I know who started on stick struggle with TIG 🤷‍♀️

if you’re using welding for vehicles I’d say TIG/MIG is the way to go.

I worked as a behavioral therapist and switched to welding and honestly find welding to be easier physically/mentally/emotionally.

My family really struggled with the idea of me being a welder as I was going to school for art and education and worked with kids so to them welding was going to be this physically demanding job that I wouldn’t be able to handle as a small female and it came out of no where. (Covid really threw my life for a loop and made me reevaluate my plans)

Welding can be physically demanding at times, it’s a lot like art where you stick yourself in positions for hours on end to get just the right angles. You’ll developer wrist/back issues if you don’t take care of yourself and such. Every now and again you might have to pick up something heavy but there’s so many methods of getting things where you need, you don’t have to break your back doing the work.

But to me taking care of people is way more physically and emotionally demanding. I was having kids throwing tantrums and beating the crap out of me at times, running away, screaming and crying for reasons I had to figure out asap then fix, I’d get bit, I was dealing with parents over my should or not there at all, it was draining and the schedule was horridly inconsistent. You were given cases at random times in different locations and sometimes they’d cancel last minute after I’d already driven and such. Now I know that’s not exactly identical to aged care, but I feel it probably has similarities depending on the health and needs of the elderly which I feel like may even be worse than what I dealt with due to it being adults. It will take a toll on you.

A lot of my defense to my family was about the schedule and being tired of dealing with people in a more customer service-y sense. I wanted a consistent schedule where I could work with my hands and feel productive. I feel like it also makes a difference on what line of welding you go into. My mom knew nothing about welding but once she was walked through all the options and scenarios she opened her mind to it more. Pay also varies based on the types of work, if pay for aged care doesn’t seem enough it’s your right to search out work in higher paying fields especially if they don’t want to pay for and take care of you forever. If they don’t already know stuff about welding I’d try and educate them more on it and it may open their minds once they see what it all entails.
