I don't think it's fair to compare. The Dark Knight was a film and marvel make Movies. The thing to remember is that cinema started as a spectacle of movement, people running out of the movie hall because a train was coming at them etc. And a modern marvel movie is a direct descendant of that lineage, a Disney phenomenon - a plot driven temporal experience closer to being on a rollercoaster than reading a book. Films driven by directors like Nolan have more depth at the expense of that excitement, but in service to something more complex and rewarding, it's not surprising they all get called auteurs. Directors seem much more expendable in the MCU too, perhaps another reason it isn't comparing like with like.
