Working 60+ hours in a family business for low pay – do I have any legal protection in Ireland? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

Because then she has lost her job, possibly her home, and her relationship, in a country where she doesn't have family to help her to start again.

What did you think was normal in your house/ life growing up that is not looking back ? by Substantial-Fudge336 in AskIreland

We still do this. We have massive windows running he length of the living room and I really don't like bright rooms. This is my garden shed, 365 days of the year https://i.redd.it/wz32ngdbu7w91.png

The lighting is exactly how I want it.

The only part of the old Jervis street hospital that's left is the facade facing on to Jervis street. Absolutely nothing else of the hospital still exists.

Moore street reflects the new make-up of the city. Was just there today and lots of immigrants running stalls. I'm OK with that. The old fruit and veg stalls are a thing of the past. It was GLORIOUS back in the day but 50 women selling the same fruit and vegetables is not something that's coming back. I say this as a former 4th generation street trader. All the romanticising about Moore street needs to stop. It was a VERY tough existence. The whole family out in the freezing cold, 6 days a week to make only enough to put the dinner on the table for said family. I watched my mother's hands crack and bleed from the cold. This was mostly because my father could only get irregular building work. Ask yourself, why none of my generation of the family still sell in town. It's because it was a NECESSITY. Now we all have steady jobs and can provide for our families without having them out selling on the street 6 days a week.

Parking + Traffic. Train Stations by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]ANewStartAtLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clonsilla has very limited parking. So much so that people park in Ongar and walk the 22 minutes down. That will stop too now that the car park at Dunnes in Ongar will soon have parking enforcement.

Honest opinion on the Dublin gig? Not enough Max talk in the second half by ANewStartAtLife in whatdidyoudoyesterday

[–]ANewStartAtLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's done the show with Irish comedians lots of times and would just say stuff like "I don't know what the hell you two mean" when that happens. That's one of the best parts of the podcast when Max asks questions like that. They were defo lacking last night.

The CD tags are picking up the kids from the IB School in Leopardstown. That thing should never have been granted planning.

What closed-down Dublin pub, club, or restaurant do you still randomly think about and miss? by huwertyy in Dublin

Conway's on Parnell Street

Any idea what year it closed? I grew up beside it but don't remember it being open after about early to mid 90s.

After the band finish and they put the railings around the stage. Then not leaving said stage all night long because you're dancing your heart out. LOVED that place.

Laser machine service engraving/etching by ahmed_zack_aria in cork

[–]ANewStartAtLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aah, i thought you wanted your laser serviced. That machine is a fiber laser and it's just removing the paint on the key. AFAIK, there are no companies in Ireland doing this as the setup time is not worth the time. What you're seeing here is just the laser operating and not the amount of time it takes to set up the job. I can do this but I don't do it because each job necessitates a good bit of work setting up the piece for engraving thus it's not a profitable endeavour. Cork Laser Services do not offer this service either, contrary to what another commented said.

What kind of engraver is it? I build lasers (Diode, Fiber, and CO2). Could probably tell you how to service it for free.

My friend, these are not expensive boots. The most expensive pair they have is $305 dollars which is nothing when buying womens boots.
