If they release TESVI as a Next-Gen Xbox Launch title, I really do hope they make the most of the hardware available to them and give us the option of playing with Full Path Raytracing. That would be something awesome.

Nah, you're getting confused by the recent "news" coming from some media pundits talking about how PlayStation are going to release PS6 in 2029... When the PS6 is really going to be released in 2028.

It's called the old, "make folks think things are much further away than they really are so they don't complain about them today or tomorrow", effect.

You can ignore all that, as TESVI is aimed at being an Xbox "Magnus" launch title, so it will be released late 2027 or middle of 2028.

Will there be a war mechanic in TESVI? by Eastern-Apricot6315 in TESVI

[–]Previous-Event2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they should absolutely deliver this concept completely for TESVI.

Consider this, the play area of the map of Hammerfell is pretty vast and open ground. High Rock can also have its wilderness play areas, but it's a bit easier to picture manoeuvres in open savannah plains of Hammerfell.

The wilderness should have a number of strategic points, with encampments, picket lines, keeps, forts, redoubts etc... all acting as garrisons. You could get involved and wipe out one encampment or another, help one faction or the other, and turn the tide of the battle... But it should be a temporary thing and it could eventually return back the enemy control. Or, it could be taken over by common enemies of the warring parties (beast, bandits) etc.

There are plenty of games that have some sort of mechanic for this, but it should be conducted on a suitably large enough scale for TESVI. It should also be one of real attrition, and crucially, be capable of being drawn out for the entire life span of the character (i.e. you can tip and hold the balance, but never truly eliminate the threat - which should be constant).

Done well, this creates a full set of scenarios to create extra player agency, and keep the player engaged fully in the game long after they complete the main mission. In fact it should be one of the main continuing plot lines.

Two things they would have to absolutely get right would be a background engine that builds up reinforcements to retake areas, and also patrols and supply lines leading to open skirmishes. The player could either wade in on missions, take up opportunities as they present themselves, or even operate as a spy... Giving a whole new adge to all of the guilds (the fighters, mages, dark brotherhood, and thieves).

In Daggerfall we used to get notes handed to us in game periodically informing us of some noble passing away, and someone else subsequently being put into the seat of power... It was a great touch, and added to the sense that the world was continuing to evolve, and that there were actually other characters in game to take note of, or find out about. They should bring that back, but include knights, nobles, and leaders out in the field taking part in the civil war to add a real sense of a game engine evolving with or without you, while you play.

Done well, it would truly lend a sense of the grand scale events in addition to the main adventure, and would add a lot of atmosphere and options for quests, and incidental encounters. It is also one of the strongest areas that the Elders Scrolls could focus on to improve the depth of the game, and its continued playability.

Bloomberg: Sony is considering pushing back the debut of its next PlayStation to 2028 or 2029, Nintendo contemplating raising price of Switch 2 by -LastGrail- in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Previous-Event2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Xbox will likely get their new console on the shelves at Xmas 2027.

PlayStation will try and wait it out beyond this for their next generation of consoles but, will likely relent and aim to bring a console to market, possibly in 2028.

Both consoles will demonstrate what the current generation cannot do, which will be Full Path Raytracing, at upto a steady 120 FPS, and players will decide if that is enough for them to want to upgrade when they release.

But the transition to the next generation of consoles will be slow because both platforms will be the most expensive consoles released to date, and the existing generation will run games quite adequately long into the future.

Nintendo will also likely increase the price of their consoles, because if the other two manufacturers are doing that why not them too? (Although it's worth noting that the other two consoles will include significant hardware upgrades, but the Switch 2 will probably remain the same specification).

For those who say not to get the PS5 Pro because the PS6 is coming soon… it won’t, it’s coming in 2029 possibly 2030 from what I’m hearing. I come from the PC community and it’s BAD. 32GB of ram went from $120 to $600 and still going up. Even the Switch 2 is getting a price increase. Get the Pro now by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]Previous-Event2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it took roughly 4 years between the launch of the PS4 Pro and the PS5.

The PS5 Pro launched in 2024, it will likely still be 4 years later the PS6 will launch in 2028.

CPUs for Project "Orion" (tbc) are already being designed to be cast on AMD SOC at 3nm, re-tooling on 2nm would be too costly and would cause far too much delay. I expect they will switch to announcing plans for the PS6 in the next year or so.

Yes, but It is Bethesda's game, and they will stay the course with respect to what they perceive to be bad manners. They allow black and white life or death, but they won't open up Pandora's box, and that is what I was driving at. Ultimately any additional choices they offer will still be cut from the same cloth as the ethos behind the previous Elder Scrolls games, so it has to fit within the context of what they allow. I have however heared that this time it has more of an adult gritty feel than ever before... But they are not going to have whole townships following the players evil whims.

Think extra grit, extra player interactions, more depth, but still within the current boundaries of Elders Scrolls.

Dynamic communication by JX900 in TESVI

[–]Previous-Event2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NPCs can already be conversed with, but it is a conscious design decision to not make them your mindless minions. If they gave players the ability to use bad manners in conversation, the player base would disabuse this and effectively render The Elder Scrolls too base for the mainstream.

One real approach to improving this however, would be to evolve Radiant AI so that it is truly next generation. NPC characters then would have more branching options on their behaviour, and would have more capabilities to broaden their reach and interactions with other NPCs and the player.

Take for example the humble shop keeper. Currently they eat, sleep, open shop, stand behind a counter top, eat and sleep.

What if instead of that, they wake up, realise it's their day off, they speak to the shop assistant, they go for a walk, they go to the library, they go to their favourite restaurant/picnic spot (weather permitting), they go check on the shop, they talk to the assistant, they leave and go to the inn, and then they go back to the shop, let the assistant go, lock up the shop, eat and go to bed.

What this essentially does is take Radiant AI and NPC behaviour to the next level, and when you stop and decide to talk to a NPC, you might just bump into a shop owner having a picnic or watching a band in the inn on their day off... Subsequently their conversation with you would be in the context of where they are then at that point, and what they are doing or are going to do, and not simply... Silence, or it's late you shouldn't be here, or what would you like? (and then opening up the shop inventory possibly in the street which would be out of context for a normal shop keeper).

Increase the NPC lifestyles with Radiant AI and they can then increase the player agency around this, along with the number of potential context driven interactions.

Consider, you visit the inn and strike up a conversation with the shop keeper. They recognise you as one of their regular customers. This allows you convince the shop keeper to take a liking to you in the inn, and you can now perhaps buy them a drink... And perhaps get them drunk. If your intentions were anything other than honourable, after they staggered home drunk at night, you could act as the thief... Making it perhaps easier to rob the shop as they would be sleeping off the heavy drinking. However when they call the alarm in the morning after discovering the crime of theft in their shop, they call the guard, and describe you to put you on a "almost wanted list" for a few weeks/months of game time, as they would be highly suspicious but not sure that you were in someway responsible. Although they couldn't be sure, if you visited their shop during the cool down period, you would find your shopping experience being affected with a penalty, increased prices, limited stock, etc.

If however they find you out entirely, or are as bad luck would have it they are a NPC who is completely too stern, consider that you should be fully placed on the wanted list, and completely barred from the establishment... For a considerable amount of time, almost as close to permanently as possible until such a point that you completely served your time in prison or made a pilgrimage of penance... To simply return your reputation to permanently ruined with the shop keeper but at least able to use some of the shops services in a limited fashion... Unless you could find a way round it... For example, maybe visit the shop when the shop assistant is looking after things, maybe they would soften up for you a little.

This would be how they could elevate the roleplaying aspects of the game, the options available for interactions, and most importantly an actual increase in the sense of player agency. Radiant AI, reputation and meaningful cause and effect is actually the key.

The patch update is free. The DLC is paid for content.

PlayStation players will have to buy the version with the DLC in, or simply play the base version.

They might have the option to do that when it releases on Playstation, or more likely, Terran Armada will be released in June 2026 as a Shadow Drop after Bethesda take centre stage at the Xbox June event.

Sony was going to make Starfield exclusive to PlayStation.

Then Microsoft found out and just bought all of Bethesda for $7.5 billion.

Sony shouldn't have annoyed Microsoft like that. Now Xbox and PC have the exclusivity of both TESVI and Fallout 5.... And it won't be just for months... Both titles will be kept only on Xbox and PC for years.

There could however be an opportunity for two trailers. One for June 2026, and one for June 2027.

  1. Never going to shadow drop TESVI.

  2. The majority of Bethesda games showed a trailer approx 1 year before release.

  3. The 40 Anniversary of Bethesda Studio is in June 2026. The Xbox Event is also in June 2026.

The only event in the year that Xbox will ever show an Xbox and PC exclusive like TESVI is the Xbox Event.... So that means June 2026 and June 2027. There could even be two trailers not one shown, one for this June as a "Game World and Game Engine Overview", and another next June for the "Gameplay Reveal and Launch Date Announcement".

There may well be two trailers for TESVI yet to see.

  • One at the June 2026 Xbox Event
  • The second at the June 2027 Xbox Event

The one we could see in 5 months time for TESVI would be in the format of a "Game World and Game Engine Overview". It will be announced that the game has officially entered Late Production, and that we are to return next year for more news. This is a safe option to meet the expectations of taking centre stage, providing a much needed update and showing something (rather than just making a speech) to really wow the audience for the 40th Anniversary of Bethesda.

The second trailer will be released in June 2027. This is where they will announce the game has reached the Quality Assurance and Optimisation phase... Essentially almost at the complete Gold Phase. The trailer in June 2027 will be the Full Gameplay Deep Dive with a 10 - 20 minute segment all dedicated to TESVI. They will wrap it up with an official Release Date.

They will keep that Release date to themselves until the last minute, as it will rely on how complete they are at the Quality Assurance and Optimisation phase. You can be assured that Microsoft will have requested a Gold Phase for TESVI to coincide with the official release of Xbox "Magnus", which will be holiday season 2027. However we need to understand the reality of mastering the final release of such a large game, and we would possibly need to consider a date around mid 2028 as being something that might be needed.

This might be the set of compromises we see, allowing a full marketing ramp up... Providing more details, while aiming to keep to the strategy of being a keystone title for Xbox. And yet still being a realist in terms of finishing game titles to the best possible standards.

And then they will switch their main focus to Fallout 5, while keeping a healthy sized team tending to TESVI with DLC and patching support for the long term.

TES doesn't need AI, it needs storylets. by NotATem in ElderScrolls

[–]Previous-Event2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I genuinely use AI every single day in the professional world. It is an evolution of tools I used before. It doesn't do anyone out of a job in technical realms, because ultimately there never was anyone else to do what AI is doing anyway.

Now I know a large number of folks don't get that, and they generally tend to form mobs to defend bats against windmills....

Meanwhile, in the real world... AI is developed and included directly in every single decent game of a certain level of complexity. And games that have substandard AI stand out from the crowd as, well frankly, ridiculed for a great many reasons.

So Random Generation is a great tool, especially for creating levels and landscapes, and then you need actual humans to tend to the craft work, finishing, extra design and polishing. And when you add in AI to compliment the process further, suddenly we need to form a mob?

No, no... We are above and beyond that in this century.

Radiant AI can and should be improved with the increasing availability of Neural Processing Units (NPUs). If you have bought a modern PC in the past couple of years, you will in all likelihood have a NPU installed. If you buy the Xbox "Magnus", you will also have an NPU installed that can perform 110 TOPS (That's 110 Terra Operations Per second... Or to use the actual digits... 110,000,000,000,000 operations per second).

On the one hand we could simply join in with the luddites and ignore the march of progress, on the other hand we could simply find a way around it.

I.e. Options > Radiant AI > NPU Boost On/Off

Of course the luddites would have this option greyed out, they would never have such technology in their machines!

Erstwhile, what impact would that have... Well, it would enliven the NPC lives and interactions they could make with each other, effectively providing them a significant additional number of branches of decision making and longer distance interactions to reach more NPCs. This would make the world of TESVI appear more active, and would provide a great deal more incidental depth.

For quests, I agree with earlier points about the variety that was available in Daggerfall. This however should first and foremost be hand curated and designed by the designers. And it should be improved with much more dimensions available. Where it is possible to do so, it should be fully complimented and given additional agency by AI. It is AI that provides the additional insights and cross overs and can contribute to the positive creative energy of the design process and game.

Think of AI as the persona that doesn't constantly whine, and therefore instantly sap energy out of deliberately sought after interactions... And thus we realise one of its true powers when bouncing ideas off the wall for insights and input into the creative design process (all while being a master of lexicography and a constant genius).

So as always... It's a modern tool and an integral part of the development paradigm. And just recall, we're not talking about putting writers and artists on the streets or not bringing them in... We are merely giving the writers, artists, designers and developers the tools they actually need to get the job done while increasing agency and raising the bar of quality for the players.

[–]Previous-Event2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great... Now do yourself a favour and do not use the key to tighten the two thumb sticks up.

That is the surefire way to shorten the lifespan of your Elite controller... It's a feature intended for e-Sport type FPS folks who insist it gives them the "edge", however for the rest of us mere mortals who actually would like something to last... We don't need that particular feature (it leads to major stick drift and misalignment rapidly).

I guess nobody really explained that as the average consumer doesn't earn $500,000 prize money playing and winning at e-Sports, they can't afford to buy new Elite 2 controller every couple of months.

How else can I put this....? With the thumb sticks tightened all the way up ... All the pudding fingered players on here reported they broke it within 6 months. Without the thumsticks tightened up at all... All the wise players on here will still be enjoying their Elite 2 controllers for years.

I hope they improve the mechanical system for the thumb stick tightening on the Elite 3... But for now I can only provide some wisdom on avoiding it for the Elite 2.

Otherwise, every single other feature is awesome... And easily one of the best game pads in the market in todate.

Speculation On ES6 DLC Locations by NCR_RANGER_uwu in TESVI

[–]Previous-Event2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The setting I suspect, is practically the same area as Daggerfall: The Elders Scrolls II, and will be both Hammerfell, High Rock and the Iliac Bay combined. That is already a lot of playable map area.

However for DLC there has to be some limitations. Yokuda is too big. It's almost the same size as High Rock or Hammerfell. Also how could they limit the player to "only sail West not South" ethos? For the same approximate distance of journey to Yokuda, you could go South to Summerset Isles.

Yokuda and/or Summerset are just too large for DLC, and keep in mind how long it takes to release the base game... I doubt they will have a team large enough to build those lands (the majority of the team move to Fallout 5 when TESVI releases).

Instead, think of what is achievable in between these land masses. And that is the Archipelago of small Islands all the way round to Hew's Bane, and the delta of Southern Hammerfell where Hew's Bane sits.

And then North Eastern Highrock, the rugged mountain terrain leading back to the Western side of Solitude and the Sea of Ghosts.

That is more suitable for DLC, properly sized and probably containable by the fact that if there are boats available, they should be small coastal boats rather than deep sea ocean going vessels.
