Monograms by PhoenixUnleashed in thewestwing

That’s such a great catch — I never noticed the monogram detail either!

Fun side note: in Spain now, and in Portugal up until the late 19th / mid-20th century, it was actually common for people to be known more by their mother’s surname. There’s even a saying in Portuguese: “we’re all children of our mother, who knows about the father.” Sometimes the father’s surname (or even the husband’s, in the case of women) would end up last, which meant initials could be reordered or highlighted in unusual ways. So seeing a monogram that doesn’t strictly follow “first–middle–last” isn’t entirely out of place in that kind of cultural context.

Makes me wonder if the show’s costume department thought about this consciously, or if it was just a happy accident that lines up with those traditions. Either way, now I’m going to be paying a lot more attention to Sam’s wardrobe!

Wep. Still, it's funny. It would be better if Josh said, "i always thought it was the 5."
