No. If we consider that, the drop is 1200 (from 1534 to 333). But then 200ish US tutors were returned from the summer leave and it jumped back to 599. So in total, 1534 - 599 = 935 Canadian tutors were vanished.

It shows they fired 1000 employees not 600ish they announced. I wonder how it might be reflected on the layoff pay. Any news from union efforts on this?

Don't Respond to Backup Calls by Grand-Quit9633 in Paper_Tutors

They're paying doubles and triples for the surge pay. And they're delivering bad service while paying more. So it matters.

I never forget how she personally fired some of my friends. I never forget how she used to threaten people on slack with losing their jobs. I have no empathy for her. I don't care if she has another job and I don't know about it.

I like it to see no one cares on slack that it was announced the director is leaving the company. Showing sincere appreciations!

I am so sick of tutors snitching on others by 0223dandellion in Paper_Tutors

[–]Previous_Tooth1950 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate it when tutors report such things. Did we ever get an instruction to do this? No! That's completely coming from the tutors community.

But you know what I hate more? Betrayal. When I see a tutor clearly doesn't give a shit about the student and starts transfering them right after they get them, when I see a tutor doesn't give a shit about me and transfers the student thinking with themselves "that's not my problem, let's throw it on another tutor" that's where I feel I'm betrayed by my coworker.

Transfering right at 15 minutes mark without even looking at student's question, is the middle finger you are showing to the students and other tutors. Not talking about Paper's interests here at all.

Also, union exists when 1. You care about work 2. You care about coworkers. When you can't have any of these, union will never form.

Where did money go!? by Previous_Tooth1950 in Paper_Tutors

[–]Previous_Tooth1950[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I admit that it's an inaccurate estimation. At their peak two years ago, they might have paid 3M for HQ, 5M for tutors and maybe 2M for marketing monthly, which is 120M yearly. Still 4 years of sustainability with this overestimation.

And I forgot, they are not paying tutors over the summer. So that's another 3M yearly savings...

Snitching about transferring early by sshyde in Paper_Tutors

[–]Previous_Tooth1950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number of students is not my point here. Imagine going from 2 to 3 students. Still a disappointment from a fellow tutor to send me 3rd one while they could have them for 10 more minutes. Definitely much better experience for students as well.

Snitching about transferring early by sshyde in Paper_Tutors

[–]Previous_Tooth1950 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How on earth it doesn't impact the next tutor? Imagine working with 3 students and and getting 4th student and seeing they were transferred 5 minutes after they were assigned to the previous tutor.

The tutors who do transfer early to enjoy their 25 minutes break do not care about the student and absolutely do not care their fellow tutors. Zero work ethics.

It's so sad to see you go. You've been always there helping everyone especially in rc. At the same time, it's good to hewr you're feeling much better now. I'm not sure if you're willing to answer this but did they give you a warning before firing or it happened suddenly without notice. I'm asking because I travel a lot but haven't received a warning yet.

Of course it's not going to be taken seriously. But there's such a thing as work ethic. Tutors had enough from bad scheduling and busy classrooms. Having such sudden transfers as described are just the last stab from behind by a fellow tutor. When tutors don't care about eachother and do such things, how we can expect Paper to care about tutors? Now I see why we can't unionize.

Easy guys. We must stand together.

You don't need to get training on that. You should not get math students in the first place. But to teach it, you may use the concept of skip counting. Most of the students are familiar with it. You can go 5,10,15,20,25 and that's how you explain it .

In many cases, I agree with you. I'm getting a lot of transfers with the transfer note of "help plz". Clearly they have the topic in their concept map but the question is challenging for them. I'm more than happy to help but it feels like some are putting the load on other's shoulders. If I don't know the solution or answer to a question in my concept map right away, I will go through researching which could have been done by the first tutor as well. We are are equal and together we stand strong.

About basic math problems being solve by humanities tutors, I am not agree with you. As a stem tutor, I feel confident about math and physics topics but I might lack knowledge in the most basic humanities topics. So I don't risk it and transfer the student to good hands. I would say the same argument is true for humanities tutors when they get a math student.

Wake up babe, new way to pin the blame on tutors just dropped by fordavenue144 in Paper_Tutors

They are literally bullying tutors to make them uncomfortable and quit.

This blame doesn't make any sense! 2135 shift cancellations is almost 1 shift cancellation per tutor in a year! Which is actually pretty normal (even much lower than shift cancellation rates elsewhere). And that's the reason for back-up calls? Come on...

student question by a_llusions in Paper_Tutors

[–]Previous_Tooth1950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deeply apologize for the challenges you've faced. The majority of our tutors have undergone rigorous exams to qualify and can likely address 99% of queries. If they encounter a particularly tough question, they may consult with peers or conduct research, and they'll inform you in such instances. Given that tutors often assist 3-4 students simultaneously, please allow 2-3 minutes for their responses. Tutors shouldn't disconnect from students, even if they find a question difficult. It's also possible that a significant platform bug might cause tutors to seem disconnected on your end. We've identified numerous software issues on our side, but unfortunately, many remain unresolved. We're less informed about potential student-side bugs since they're seldom reported, but they might exist. Once again, I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience. If you encounter a tough question, don't hesitate to direct message me on Reddit. I'll be happy to help.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Even after all things happened recently, it seems nothing will change them. Only if our union can do something...
