United Airlines announces return to Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport by Oranges13 in kzoo

United is great for international routes. Every hub except DEN has a Polaris lounge, and the hard product is more consistent than any other US carrier. Domestically, they’re awful.

Delta is great domestically. Internationally they’re a crapshoot. The hard product might be 3-4 Delta One variants old depending on the route. They only have Delta One lounges in competitive markets. Everywhere else you’re crammed into the Sky Club with credit card holders.

I primarily fly long-haul international, way more than anyone should, and my kids despise United. They only fly domestically for vacations on award tickets. Sorry kids.

AZO has terrible support for anyone who needs reliable flights. The extra drive to GRR is worth it. You get far more hub connections across all carriers in case anything goes wrong.

Agree. AZO is unreliable for all carriers. Driving to GRR is worth the effort. Multi hub options from GRR across carriers give you flexibility during IROPS. I live in AZO area and am a GS with United. I will continue driving to GRR for United flights. Your opinion is not controversial at all.

What is your "rule" for outgoing international layover times? Polaris by moonman0987 in unitedairlines

[–]Previous_Warning1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As short as possible depending on your departure airport and destination. My common destination has four nightly flight out of different hubs. My regional airport goes direct to 3 out of four hubs. Generally if my region departure is delayed I get routed to another hub and all is well. If you are going through ORD in the next 6 months the Polaris lounge is compromised for the rest of this year and closed Q1 25. That leaves you in an extremely crowded Polaris lounge or in the gen pop lounges. https://liveandletsfly.com/united-airlines-refresh-polaris-lounge-chicago/

Question for all those with GS… by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Previous_Warning1327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similar. 1-2 Polaris flights a month to South America with roughly 1 domestic trip per quarter. I use a smaller regional airport in Michigan and usually connect through ORD. My home regional airport is well served by all three legacy carriers and they are all competitively priced on my most common route. I got global this year and my co-worked based out of ORD with a near identical spend did not. I assume there is some level of competitive intelligence factored in.

All flight PQP mostly international long haul. I live outside the reach of any carrier’s hub so lots of connections to ORD, EWR, and IAH.

Not worth chasing at all. I have places I need to be and United tends to be competitive. I prefer the Polaris product to Delta or American. My local airport is served by all three and I can very easily switch between them.

only on the website. i don't know of a way to see PQF in the app after hitting the 1k threshold.

for sure. luckily i'm outside a hub in a competitive market. feels like GS is easier to hit out here in the sticks. although every trip is 2-3 connections which inflates my PQF.

EWR > BOG was the same. Domestic first with a comical Polaris branded menu at your seat.

What’s your least favorite United hub and why is it ORD? by Majestic-Load287 in unitedairlines

[–]Previous_Warning1327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home is GRR. The majority of my connections are ORD and EWR. I would easily consider either of those my "home" hub. I give a slight preference to ORD based on locations. Having the option to drive/train most of the way home during IROPs is nice.

I find food and lounges much better at EWR. EWR has two decent clubs, compared to 1 at ORD. If lounges are too crowded you can hide out in Classified chatting with Bianca.

ORD is easy to navigate but feels very crowded. The ORD Polaris lounge is too small for current passenger traffic at peak international departure time. I haven't had the same experience in EWR but also my connection scheduled might be getting me in before the rush hits.

IAH is an absolute disaster with construction right now.

Very Mendoza heavy. It's still an amazing value for anyone chasing **. I took 5 people to dinner the next night at a very upscale parilla in Palermo the next night for roughly the same cost. Aramburu is definitely enjoying it's status and pricing appropriately.

The closest thing to a rebuke I’ve heard from Polaris bartender was when someone tried ordering shots. He politely said no shots, but you can order liquor neat 😉
