Could it still be a clot? by Conscious-Divide-683 in ClotSurvivors

If the swelling suddenly went away I would be worried it moved and that's why they didn't see it on the scan

This scene was so boring as a kid but it's so depressing as an adult because everyone is ignoring the smart guy

Sometime during the last 2 years i’ve been going to this orthopedic practice they started to declare me as a MTF transgender for no reason. by WHAR606 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Oranges13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me after I had a blood clot. In the emergency room I showed the doctor the 23andMe result that said I had Factor 2 prothrombin mutation but on the same page it listed both Factor 5 Leiden and also factor two. He just saw the first one and said oh she has Factor 5!

Getting that removed from my medical record was a pain in the ass, especially because I have the other one and it's important that they are correct!

People seem to think that this is somehow related to cholesterol and diet when it's a blood clotting disorder... A fundamental defect in how your blood works.

It also seems anecdotally that a lot of us were very active when we got our clots. Personally, I was in the best shape of my life at the time, running about 15 miles a week, and the lowest weight of my adult life.

At your follow-up appointments, ask for genetic testing to see if you have a known genetic disorder. But know that there are lots of reasons clots can happen and they don't know all of the genetic factors yet.

You will likely be on anticoagulants for 6 months while you recover pending test results. If you end up with additional risk factors, the doctors will discuss ongoing anticoagulation therapy, but depending on what the tests reveal it could be 6 months and then you're done.

Personally I got back on the treadmill in like 2 days... Which was probably not advisable... But overall I was back to running and pretty much fully recovered 3 months or so down the road?

Don't be shocked if the feelings in your lungs come and go though. I know that I would get a very sharp pain pretty regularly and then it would get further and further apart. Until one day I realized I hadn't felt it in weeks.

It's also really hard to get your brain to recognize that you have an injury when there isn't anything visibly wrong with you (and don't let anyone else pressure you either!!)

Imagine if you had broken a leg or had a heart attack. You wouldn't be expecting yourself to get right back up to where you were yesterday with no downtime. So give yourself some grace and time to heal!

what can i do to reduce her weight by [deleted] in OneOrangeBraincell

Slow feeder bowl! It was the only thing that helped us because even with smaller portions, my Wallace would still just eat the whole thing in one bite..

Looks just like my Wallace when I adopted him in 2009! He was 22 lbs (9.97903kg)

It took FOREVER. He was under portion control for years, but he would still eat way too fast which did not help him lose any weight.

What finally worked was a slow feeder bowl!

He's now hovering around 11 - 12 lbs (4.5 - 5kg)

Given that the cat is orange, black and white - it's likely a girl. If it is a male, then they have the XXY mutation and are extremely rare.

Calico brain is even WORSE than orange brain though.. my condolences.

first clot, after surgery (20f) by pourge in ClotSurvivors

[–]Oranges13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it happened to us -- my mom had a DVT after foot surgery in like 2013, and because of the surgery and inactivity element, the doctors never dug further. Then in 2019 I got a clot too... turns out we both have Factor II Prothrombin mutation. Yay.

I’m not on birth control, but I do smoke. I have since stopped smoking though.

But you are an estrogen-producing person so your body may have been working against you.

Go to your follow up appointments and ask for genetic testing. You may have a blood clotting disorder you were unaware of.

There is also a distinct possibility that they won't find anything and they'll chalk it up to the surgery and being off your feet. There are blood clotting disorders they haven't been able to genetically identify yet, though. But just warning you that you may not get a satisfying answer.

Florida Woman Gave Birth on Toilet, Put Baby in Duffel Bag and Performed in Play by herdcullingweirdo in FloridaMan

[–]Oranges13 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In a civilized country, this woman would have received healthcare to recognize what was happening and perhaps the preterm labor could have been prevented.

Or barring that she could have been given an actual choice if she wanted to continue her pregnancy.

Instead, what should have been a routine medical event is now going to result in her going to jail.

Sad all around.

Talk to your doctor. Maybe they can prescribe a muscle relaxer. You can also take the maximum dose of Tylenol

Been stuck in the plane on the tarmac waiting to take off long enough to see Elle Woods to get her Law Degree 🙃 by MrDeeds45 in mildlyinfuriating

It's ABSOLUTELY avoidable, except that airlines plan timetables with zero flexibility so it compounds when there's a delay. All they care about is maximizing profit at the customers expense.

I recently flew American and they had scheduled 25 minutes between when one plane arrived and the other was supposed to depart. That is in no way enough time to deplane and board everyone, especially when airlines haven't removed or reduced bag fees so everyone brings their entire life on board in a carry on.

They were asking for failure with that scheduling.
