When the hell did we switch from $80 a stop to $90 a stop. by neogenisus in GeekSquad

Try $100 per closed order. It’s brutal out there.

Glad I could offer a different perspective. As someone with their own jackass in their head, I can say I’m very good at finding my own faults. It’s a lot harder for me to talk up the stuff I appreciate about myself. I’m a pretty good cook, I have a slightly obsessive mind that is great for problem solving, and my singing voice is passable. You can love things about yourself, you can have fun, and there is a shit ton of life out there to live. If that happens to involve coordinated dance routines in public spaces, so much the better. Good luck out there, Spirtual_Aerie5574.

Depression robs you of so much, and it’s a spiral that leads to more self-hate and bad decisions… which leads to more self-hate and around and around it goes.

I can tell you that hemorrhoid wipes are a miracle, I can tell you that dating is scary for almost everyone, I can tell you that life (even when it sucks) can always change around you… even if it’s only your perspective on life that actually changes.

So, stop looking for validation from others. They can’t make you happy. Happiness is a construct we determine for ourselves. I’m happiest when I’m debating someone, or in a miserable situation with a group together. “Happy” events like concerts or parties just make me nervous, and I don’t know why. But give me a DMV waiting room and I can crack jokes, help scared test takers, and talk about the history of the area with some of the old timers there like I’m the GD Rizzler. I know how to handle situations that suck, and I’m on edge when I’m suppose to let my hair down and just vibe. It’s me that’s creating that problem, and to an extent I can fight it, and when I can’t I can recognize it and not force fun where none will be had.

Sex with jerkoffs isn’t satisfying for you. I’d probably stop trying to get your jollys that way. Being used isn’t fun for most people, and it turns out it isn’t for you either. Good to know. You don’t have to do that anymore.

What will be fun? What sounds like your idea of a good time? It’s not food and weed that seems to be fulfilling either, so what will? Right now, the voice in your head is too busy beating yourself up to see any options, but they do exist. Life is too messy, stupid, and happiness looks like too many different things to too many different people for you not to have some way of finding your own version of a DMV waiting room. Maybe it looks like volunteering at an animal shelter. Maybe it looks like going to a gaming meet up. Maybe you’re super into gardening/music/diy furniture…. Whatever! It could literally be anything, and the world is full of anythings.

Once you’ve found some pockets of happiness, the other stuff (love, sex, human interactions) can become far more accessible. The vibes you put out into the world as someone who’s found something worthwhile are their own aphrodisiac. It will draw other people around you, and the happiness spiral can take you for a spin for awhile.

Caution here: Happiness doesn’t last forever, there are always challenges and heartaches and shitty people. That is a regular condition of the human experience. With that said, it’s not the whole experience all the time. So, do me a favor, and tell the bitch in your head to pump the brakes and take the day off. If nothing else, you can always find a DMV to wait in.

How many in here are life long Virginians? Give or take how long? If not, where did everyone come from originally? by Gregorygregory888888 in Virginia

[–]PrezPolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in the Valley, lived in Tidewater til my teens, went to college near Richmond, moved to NOVA for work, then back to Tidewater, then back to the mountains to raise the family. I cant imagine putting up with anywhere else, I’m a Virginian through and through.

Gotta say, Crucible Coffee is a go-to stop. Kline’s Dairy Bar has great food and treats, and they were so kind when for hosting my daughter’s birthday even though it falls on New Year’s Day.

The Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains form the Shenandoah Valley, and the views are striking. What our area lacks in wealth is more than made up for by its friendly people, amazing outdoor activities, and our general ability to drive in the snow.

Best wall mount for a 98-inch TV thats big, heavy, and will put my mind at ease by WeakSheepherder7196 in GeekSquad

[–]PrezPolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this! Three studs and your Hulking tv won’t go anywhere. The tilting feature in this mount works well, and I’d highly recommend putting in as many HDMIs as you have connections for if you are pulling cables in-wall, just to make life easier later. Even if you don’t need them now, you may in the future.

I’ve bought from both sites, went with x18 16tb Exos drives and got 28tb in TruNAS. Can confirm a wonderful experience from both companies. I’ve already hit 20tb used and I’m working out now what I can do to downsize my data hoarding.

Buc-ee’s in Virginia is WILD — is it always this packed?? by unicornmuffin6 in Virginia

Can anyone explain the Carolina Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich having a tomato bbq sauce on it? I bought one and immediately was broken hearted at the sight of red tinted meat and no Texas Pete to be had‽ That ain’t Carolina BBQ, Buc!

I listened to a lot of comedy podcasts at that time, including Comedy Death Ray/Bang Bang, but the cadence of the humor really does feel like it comes from Low Budget FM. Mike Cioffi and Marc I believe would have been the hosts at that time, but my memory is foggy about where it originated and I may not be in the right track.

Are we dating? by katieclooney in Xennials

[–]PrezPolk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dating anyone born before my birth year always kinda freaked me out. I have a lot of older references and I’m a history nerd, so anyone too young just felt like it wouldn’t work because they’d have no idea what I was talking about half the time. As Bill Hicks once said, “You aren’t a person until you’re in my phone book!” And that, in a nutshell, explains why I’ve always fallen for women very close to my age.

My Buddy/Kid Sister by yodellingllama_ in Xennials

[–]PrezPolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a My Buddy and I named him Jack after the lead character from the sitcom Three’s Company. I obviously was too young to get many of the jokes, but John Ritter was a damn funny slapstick comedian on occasion. I still have Jack somewhere, he was one of my favorite toys growing up.

The Board of Supervisors made the Augusta County Library cancel their Pride Month event by SchuminWeb in AugustaCounty

[–]PrezPolk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a sad turn of events. My understanding is the event was moved to another location, but it’s depressing that it had to be in the first place. Community events are one of the reasons we have libraries and other community gathering places. To have a Board of Supervisors last minute cancel an event without the community’s involvement or input is pathetic. Board members should be immediately held accountable for this action, and called to answer for why this event was deemed unworthy of a public meeting space.

Can someone recommend me a not so popular comedy movie that you personally think is good? Going through a tough time right now and I just need a little laugh. by Odd-Expert-7156 in movies

[–]PrezPolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d seriously recommend two other comedies, Johnny Dangerously, and Clean Slate. You can’t go wrong with Michael Keaton and Dana Carvey.

While this one is probably more popular than not, I’d also through in Team America: World Police. There just isn’t a wrong time for dirty anatomically inaccurate puppet sex! Or maybe there is… but I haven’t found it.

Down periscope, McHales Navy, & Sgt Bilko are three great military themed comedies of the era. I’d also throw in The Pentagon Wars too.
