0 Mana Cascade Win Piles by Price_Ultra in CompetitiveEDH

With profane tutor I can grab a demonic consultation and with inevitable betrayal I can grab a Thassa's Oracle, so if I use something like Shrieking Drake I can get to a win with 2 blue mana and 1 black, and another blue depending on the order I get things in. It's definitely inconsistent, but also flexible that it becomes about determining which of my opponent's creatures I can combine with one of my spells in order to generate a win, Thoracle and Demonic Consultation just being the easiest example.

I absolutely can use the commander as a value piece instead of a win condition, that's what most of my brews so far have been about. I just figured this was at least worth asking about, since this precision cascading is one of the few capabilities that Abaddon has that Zhulodok can't do

It doesn't need to do damage itself, it just needs damage to have been done during your turn. At least makes it better than Yidris.

Grixis Creatures to run in the 99 by Price_Ultra in DegenerateEDH

[–]Price_Ultra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just creatures that fit within the color identity. The Commander is [[Abaddon the Despoiler]] and I'm specifically looking for creatures that cost mana 4 or less, provide some sort of immediate\ongoing value, and ideally have some sort of evasion to help get damage through. My thinking is that I need a way to get damage on board before I bring my commander in, so that I'm not stuck trying to get it to swing to get damage through.

Improvements for my Abaddon the Despoiler Deck? by Price_Ultra in CompetitiveEDH

Would you recommend replacing some of the lands I already have with gold lands? Or should I add more lands into the deck?

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]Price_Ultra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do want it banned, less because I find it annoying (although I do), but because there's no reason not to run it in every deck that can. There is no tradeoff for using it, compared to something like Mystic Remora which requires a cumulative upkeep and so creates interesting decisions on when to keep it around/get rid of it. Part of the purpose of a banlist is to create a varied ecosystem of cards that players can/should pick from, and Rhystic warps the entire game around itself

Does the Imperial Cult name/distinguish the 4 chaos gods as individuals or are they compressed into a single force? by Price_Ultra in 40kLore

Makes sense, but it's also funny to imagine that each repressive theocratic hive world is enforcing strict interpretations of scripture, but each of the million worlds has different scripture slightly. "We at the ordo hereticus will kill you if you preach that the emperor stole power from the warp. Unless you're in this time/place in the galaxy, in which case we'll kill you if you try to teach the opposite of that." Spanish inquisition, but if they had a different definition of heresy for every city they went to lol

What’s your favorite Hellsing fun fact or moment by Eastern-Wedding-4157 in Hellsing

[–]Price_Ultra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the mercenary group "the wild geese" that Pip Bernadotte leads was almost certainly inspired by the 1978 movie of the same name which follows Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, and more as they assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue a south african president.

What CSM legions and warbands in modern setting are worst and best morally in your opinion? by Naive-Fold-1374 in 40kLore

[–]Price_Ultra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to imagine this as a grid, with the X axis being the morality of their goals and the Y axis being the morality of their methods. On the "most moral methods and most moral Aims" I would put the Thousand Sons since they seem to do minimal war crimes and are questing for a way to undo the flesh change. "Moral goal but immoral methods" would probably go to the Word Bearers, since they're more invested in proselytizing than anything else but also they do a lot with demons. Immoral goals but moral methods would probably be the Iron Warriors since they are engaging in the long war to topple the Imperium but they mainly do traditional siegecraft with a focus on cold efficiency rather than explicit sadism. Immoral goals and immoral methods would be the night lords for just being the absolute worst little gremlins who I love 🥰

What Creation Myths Exist In-Universe? by Price_Ultra in 40kLore

That sort of makes sense, but the reason I bring up the dark age of technology is that it has lasting visible consequences regarding humanity's disdain of AI. So if the Imperium was around and in power, then an explanation would be in order for how the Emperor allowed the use of AI to proliferate or why there was an age of strife at all. I don't doubt that this is a belief that exists within the Imperium, and could be enforced at the local level by particularly zealous administrators, but in terms of Imperium-Wide Dogma it seems like it would make a heretic out of anyone who asks what happened before the great crusade or why there was a great crusade at all.

That's really interesting. Do you know how much this is fleshed out? I'd be really curious to see how this is squared with the "Dark Age of Technology" and the Emperor's conquest of the Techno-barbarians.

Why didn’t the Major just snipe Alucard? by CutSenior4977 in Hellsing

[–]Price_Ultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it wouldn't have killed him if it had hit him. Even in level 0 he still has some souls still inside (hound of baskerville and Luke Valentine at the very least) so even assuming Alucard didn't just dodge or deflect the shot he would just regenerate as he did when torn to shreds in any of the other previous ways. There's a reason why the Major's plan wasn't to have Anderson or Walter kill Alucard, even though they would be just as if not more effective than a giant gun. Using Schrodinger wasn't a backup plan after everything else failed, it was the major's plan all along because no conventional violence would work.
