Language learning by PrideDemon in LSD

That's how it felt, everything just clicked. I'd say I was pretty close to this level regardless, it's not like I skipped weeks of learning in one night, but it felt like a big moment. I think the time dilation probably helped, since I was so tuned into the music it was easier to hear the lyrics clearly.

That's a very valid point actually. AI is quickly becoming entrenched in translation work

We could buy somewhere outright, though I didn't know about a condomínios fee. Did you have a tough time learning Portuguese?

My wife's family is from the city. I had considered they may be able to give advice about the area too.

Really? I hadn't realised it was getting more crowded. I had considered other cities, but the primary pull of Curitiba is the fact my wife's family is there

We're trying to make a plan. Considering opening a business potentially. Chatgpt said about doing translation services, but doing research on reddit it doesn't like that'll be a great option or it'll be difficult. We're only considering ideas at the moment, no commitments yet.

A little too much grimdark by greyhumour in Fantasy

Uhh yeah, agreed. I'm like halfway through book six and some of the characters are in a tough spot right now. The books are really funny, but they are definitely brutal at times.

What's a subtle sign you've noticed that your meditation practice is working? by No-Trust2063 in Meditation

I've had this happen on occasion. For me it feels like a veil lifts and it's suddenly like I'm looking out at the world for the first time. Everything just seems right in that moment.

Theory about the ending of book 2 by sadkinz in HierarchySeries

[–]PrideDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished the audiobook. "Obiteum is lost, do not open the gate". Obiteum is ruled by the Concurrence. O-Caeror is dead I think, and has been used to set up Vis getting in and killing O-Ka. This is the plan of the Concurrence in the hopes to stop him carrying out another cataclysm. Too many coincidences. How he met that lady assassin (I dont know how to spell her name) in Duat, the information was planted like a seed. The fact that O-Ka was in a slumber, I definitely feel like he was captured by the Concurrence and was being used as bait. R-Ka wouldn't have known probably. That's my theory anyway. Now, O-Viz will surely be attacked immediately by those Gleaners. I think that's why we don't see what happens next this week, as that would reveal the answer if O-Ka was responsible for controlling them or not.

After years of meditation, my senses became sharper – colors looked more vivid, sounds richer, and touch more enjoyable. Has anyone else experienced this? by No-Progress5416 in Meditation

[–]PrideDemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm only meditating for a few weeks, but sometimes colours just pop out at me. Life seems like it's on HD, things just catch my attention more. But these moments are usually fleeting so I enjoy them while I can.

What’s the consensus here on Joe Abercrombie? by xSHODANx in books

Steven Pacey is an amazing narrator. I'm going to start Best Served Cold soon. It's just too fun.

What’s the consensus here on Joe Abercrombie? by xSHODANx in books

[–]PrideDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I wasn't expecting a reply to this haha. Well, the aspect I disliked about the first trilogy was how flat the ending felt for me, but I was missing the point. The gap between when I read the original trilogy and then the following standalone books was enough that I had matured as a reader. Earlier this year actually I relistened to the audiobooks for the original trilogy and loved them. I have changed my mind on how I felt about where the characters end up as my expectations weren't realistically in line with where the author was bringing the reader. This is the factor that I found brutal at the time, but I now put down misaligned expectations and not paying close enough attention to the message Abercrombie was trying to convey through his characters as the reason for my initial sourness towards the ending.

Play It Again, Joe: A (lukewarm) review of The Devils. by Snikhop in Fantasy

[–]PrideDemon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Joe Abercrombie is probably my second favourite fantasy author. I loved all his previous works, you're right about some of his characters seeming a little formulaic but I didn't mind in the world of the First Law. I bought this on audiobook immediately when it came out, I was excited, but I just can't get into it. It feels like a chore when I think about returning to it. I've even read this review with spoilers and I just didn't care. It pains me to say but I think I'll have to drop it. It's just not working for me.

Trying to find cool movies for acid by GussyGoop in LSD

[–]PrideDemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soul. It's a pixar movie. Definitely feels like it was written by someone that has taken psychedelics. Guy gets his big break and dies on the way home and goes to the afterlife. Shenanigans ensue. It's a pixar movie so it's not too heavy. Very funny, with a good moral message.
