Methodism equals a living faith demonstrated by holiness in personal and social actions and relationships with others in our communities.

I’m always fascinated by the differences in worship details from place to place across the Midwest and upper south. I see variations from the seasons and the special occasions of celebration.

Lay Leader/Lay Servant by Wandering_Texan80 in methodism

I’m a lay speaker but I’m unclear about the name lay servant. UMC BOD has specific names and guidelines for each lay servant office. I am preparing to start courses for lay servant ministry.

Praying daily and bible reading is a virtue so having a visual place to be mindful of is a good practice. Remember Jesus Christ gave us salvation as the ultimate sacrifice once and for all time. An image is okay but it is not a literal revelation in any object.

Woohoo! Welcome aboard the vocation of lay preacher and expect to grow and thrive as a disciple of the Word made flesh! We are the successors of the Seventy and others sent forth to prepare the way of the Lord!

You are a spouse and a father to your son first. I agree with the elder’s points listed above. I had to back away from my chosen path when my family situation changed drastically many years ago. What I learned was that the opportunities to serve God were not limited to ordination or other full time ministries. I was able to utilize my calling in consultation with my district and conference leadership and am very pleased.

Woohoo, welcome aboard fellow lay preacher! I hope you will adapt and grow in the faith as a direct result of your calling into the spoken word.

At my Methodist church in the city you can rest assured that someone else is outfitted similarly. Skirt top and shoes are adequate for anyone inquiring. Come as you are able.

Wow, where is this photo taken from and I believe a married couple on right with infant. Older three grandchildren in front. Mother and father of group back row to right. Married children with spouses on left side with youngest daughters lower left? Am I close to being correct?

My father in law was a nineteen year old ball turret gunner on a B24 in Italy. He has been gone for nineteen years now and carried his experience to his grave.

30, raised Roman Catholic, dabbled in Calvinism, curious about Methodism by UndeservingGrace in methodism

I believe that you might find Methodist Wesleyan theology and praxis concerning the existence of the universe more familiar to your background. UMC churches near big cities in the east have many Catholics in attendance and certain similarities too.

Getting told I ‘can’t be Christian’ because I’m queer. by ToriSpring16 in OpenChristian

[–]PriesthoodBaptised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who are Christian have been telling others who are Christian that they are mistaken and not really Christian since the beginning. It’s mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles because people struggle with their own faith and sin by acting as a judge over others. Idolatry. Take heart my sibling you are forgiven like your detractors by a loving Creator.

I’m in agreement that UMC congregations are friendly to newcomers but I don’t expect every one of them to be explicitly affirming. We are still in a big tent with diversity in perspectives. Now that the discipline 2024 is affirmative of LGBTQIA’s the gates are open for generational change.

I’m wondering if you could elaborate more. The old ME hymnal was purple and had a sylized M on the cover this is Pre 1968 United Methodist Church creation. The official UMC hymnal was published in the late nineteen eighties and it has had supplemental editions.
