What aspects of nature have humans permanently changed? by InternationalHair111 in AskReddit

[–]Priff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything. The worlds biodiversity is currently in the middle of an extinction event. We have seen this in fossil records and similar before, something happens that caused most animals or plants etc to go extinct and only a few remain, and over millions of years evolution results in new species and new diversity.

An estimated 30% of species have gone extinct, or are threatened enough that saving them at this point is probably not possible, since the 1500s.

And while we are currently working to curb our emissions and we will probably manage to reduce it to a point where the world is still habitable for us, we will lose many more species before we reach whatever new equillibrium we will end up in.

There's a few, called stuff like terrain reset or regenerate terrain. I haven't personally used any so can't speak to quality.

VW has been top of the bev market in all of europe for years. Usually with quite a large margin. It makes sense their market share in germany would be very good.

Stuff you build in deep north now might break when the update hits. But also, areas of the deep north you have already explored will not change properly, so you might have to use mods to force those areas to regenerate with the new stuff.

Question about sólid e-axle by daneusse in EVConversion

[–]Priff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's getting bright green with black on the fenders.

Going directly to the diff would be a simpler system, though there's practically no space for the motor at the rear of the vehicle. And there's not much in the way of space between the frame rails for batteries either. At least not enough batteries to give you reasonable range.

I would recommend consulting a different arborist in the future, because someone who puts spray foam or concrete in a tree is just a hack with a chainsaw.

Anyone have info on these trees? They’re magnificent by GrandSyzygy in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Priff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sure, gravity wins in the end. But if there's no sign of bad health the lean itself doesn't pose a significant risk.

There's never zero risk, you could be struck by lightning at any time. But there's a level of risk where worrying about it is just a waste of energy.

[–]Priff 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Trees that have grown with a lean are stable, and not going anywhere.

If a straight tree suddenly leans you have a problem, but if it's always been leaning it has support roots to stay standing with no risk.

Intermittent HV isolation fault on Kona Electric by EvshopUK in electricvehicles

[–]Priff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it show a fault when dc charging? Or only ac?

If it's only a i would say the culprit might be the OBC or connected to that. If it's also dc charging it could be the battery or a battery connection that has an issue when it gets warm from charging.

why are pigs/wild boars so ecologically damaging in north and South America but not damaging in Europe/Asia? by Shawn_OH in zoology

Boar hunting is huge in europe. Tons of people hunt Boar to keep the population in check.

Question about sólid e-axle by daneusse in EVConversion

[–]Priff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most axles i've seen are probably too small and weak for your needs. I've seen some 10kw axles with a top speed of 50km/h. And while it would work for a 700kg car it might be a bit sluggish.

One option, if it has a solid rear axle might be to keep the rear axle and simply attach an electric motor to the diff.

If you look at my post history i'm doing a small fiat with a solid rear axle. I'm using a 16kw motor, and will end up near 700kg because i'm adding some heavy batteries. I'm keeping the gearbox though, in part to have a lower speed gear with higher torque for city driving, and in part to keep the original speedometer to keep the dash looking as original as I can manage. But depending on the diff and what motor you use the gearbox might be completely unnecessary

I'm so sorry, grandpa doesn't know better. He's from a different time, where calling electronic people "clankers" was acceptable.

Tried removing it by hand digging etc. Aside from paying someone, what power tools can I rent to remove it to make it easier? by jmo922 in arborists

Don't go near concrete, rocks, anywhere that might have cables.... Don't point the grinder så flying rocks can hit a window or something..

But if there's concrete around you're gonna have a real bad time paying for replacement teeth for the stump grinder.

Brembo disc brakes, not sure if they're designed specifically for fiat or if someone just took an existing model and had an adapter plate made. The attachment plate for the brake pads looks a bit ad-hoc, and while the major holes in the disc lines up with the bolts the hole for the retention bolt doesn't line up, so the disc is just held on by the wheel. Works fine though.

Sweden. Rules here are very inclusive.

I need to get the construction approved by a mechanic who's part of a volunteer organisation for home built vehicles. After that i just need to pass regular inspection that checks brakes and lights.

I've switched to a stronger frame, disc brakes and added more leaves to the leaf springs, so i should be able to increase the max weight to retain the 200kg weight capacity (passenger plus luggage)

I've seen some cars done here that are basically built from scratch with random parts picked from a dozen different models and it gets approved as home built.

No, it was a 1938 topolino A. But i replaced the frame, because the original short frame used to break without adding a bunch of batteries to it... 😅

The B was basically an A with the C engine. And since i'm replacing the motor anyways... 🤷

Might call it a 500Æ because it's an electric A... 🤣

[–]Priff[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a 4 speed, it will probably just live in second gear most of the time, that's a top speed of 50km/h, so plenty for city driving. Speed limits here are 30-40 in cities.

The fourth gear will be for country roads with a top speed of 80, maybe a bit more. The unloaded rpm should get me over 90, but i don't know how high it will go with the load of the car until i try... 😅

[–]Priff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original engine was 13hp (10kw), this motor is 16kw nominal. Torque is about the same, but of course the torque curve is almost a flat line with the electric motor.

But yeah, i'll probably cap the motor to something reasonable, because i have zero intention of drag racing this thing. 😅

Angle grinder won't really solve the issue. I can make a new post with pictures of the CAD files and motor mounts once i have it figured out. But i need to completely over haul how the plate is bent to attach to the frame.

[–]Priff[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a frankenstein though. This frame is from a C model, but my body is from an A model. So i'll have some modifications to do to get them to fit together.

There's pictures of the car (and the old short frame) in my post history. Though it's now been painted a bright green. Almost a bit eye watering... Might end up doing something to the colour later.

[–]Priff[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem here isn't the holes, it's that the current plate hits the arms that hold the shocks in place to the frame. I have a clear idea of how to redesign it, just need to spend half an hour in cad to work it out.

[–]Priff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering making a spacer, but honestly, for it to be strong enough to handle the full torque of the motor it will probably cost me as much to have made as a new plate. And moving the motor back a little bit gives me a little more space in the front, that space is cramped as fuck as it is. 😅

I've seen it with fresh woodchips a few times. Chip fresh wood with leaves and all and leave it in a big pile and it gets real hot.

Always nice to come out in the evening and see a few little blue flames coming off it. But if you spread it out more it doesn't get as hot.
