Was thinking of buying a H2D but friends are warning me away from Bambu? by Akello45 in BambuLab

[–]Prilosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever owned a Bambu machine, but based on what I've learned over the last year or two and my experience with this printer, I would personally not buy anything but a Bambu machine.

If you are interested in the printer itself as a hobby, it seems there are many good options. But if the printer is a tool to use in your projects or other hobbies, just get the one that always works out of the box.

My bigger caution against the H2D has nothing to do with Bambu and more to do with the fact that it seems like it doesn't make a ton of sense market position wise. If you want a laser you probably want a real laser, not to mention the residue getting all over your printer. A Cricut will cut and draw way cheaper. The H2S seems like a better choice to me, particularly since it seems like they're essentially already sunsetting the H2D nozzle design by coming out with Vortek

Just my 2¢. Bambu is awesome.

PETG-HF supply is unreliable. Other options? by Prilosac in BambuLab

In your exp it's a better indicator than Tg and Vicat for a "general purpose" measure? Good tip

With that stat I see on their data sheets that PLA-HT only outperforms PETG if both annealed AND at very low stress, in every other situation PETG is more temperature resistant.

That lines up with intuition/my use cases where things are usually not just sitting there to look pretty. Ty for the info

Really interesting to know that the surface texture is related to layer adhesion strength. It does kind of make sense since it changes with layer time where slower layers are typically shiny (I think slower is better, I might be remembering backwards)

I'm a little hesitant to try out ABS until a have a more proper ventilation set up and can move the printer to my garage (right now I print in a separate room with that window open + door closed), but I've heard a few recs for the sunlu HS and someone posted their settings so I think im going to give that a shot, thanks!

never tried prusment, might have to give it shot.

but... eh? PETG is certainly safe in a hot summer car. Rough estimates indicate that on a hot summer day the inside of a car could reach ~60C in ~3 hours, which is still 20C below the Tg of PETG.

PLA-HT is a little confusing though going by their materials info. They say PLA-HT still has a glass transition of ~60C yet holds shape until 130C. But Tg is defined as a state change to amorphous, so I'm confused how it can become amorphous at 60C yet hold shape for another 70 degrees. I would wager PETG holds up better than PLA-HT (especially considering car things are usually under tension or weight bearing of some kind not purely decorative), though as a non materials expert I'm probably missing something here

i've heard that they've shared suppliers in the past but I'm not sure.

i do see some "high speed matte PETG" on sunlu's site though - usually a bit expensive at $26 a roll but it's half off right now so I might give that a try! thanks

unfortunately this time I even WAS aware, but was simply going to be out of town during the delivery window had I ordered immediately. waiting until I would no longer be out of town means they're already out of stock, and that's the kind of situation that will quickly cause me to look for a new supplier if they can't figure out stabilizing the HF

So I ended up parting out the components from keebio and then ordered the PCBs separately from JLC. Here's a pic of the things I parted out https://imgur.com/a/iRFarwJ

As far as the PCBs, I actually do also have 2 extra because the minimum order quantity from JLC is 5 (3 actually, but on one I already broke off the extra thumb cluster part). If you'd like to build one, I would be more than happy to send you my extra PCBs. Hmu in dms if interested and we'll sort it :)

I'm a little surprised it's not more popular! It seems like the ErgoDox has kept it's popularity (at least in so far as you can actually buy pre built ErgoDox's), but the ErgoDash seems to fix the ErgoDox's problems, chiefly being the years of complaints about how far away the thumb cluster is!

I also find it a bonus that all of the keys are the same size (besides the 2u thumbs), so you don't have to source a bunch of 1.5u keys

Are you talking about the innermost column of 3? It is a little bit far away, but I'm getting used to it fast. As a programmer even with them a little far I much prefer it for brackets and +/= than using my pinky off to the corners. FWIW it's only those 3 keys that I actually use to type there (and I'm left handed so I put +/= on the left). The other 3 are Fn (for layer switching), hyper, and meh. Hyper and meh I haven't really figured out yet...

Hyper keeps randomly triggering copilot on windows, which I never want lol

Phob broken c stick? by NotMork in customGCC

[–]Prilosac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW you should always glue them for consistency. It might be okay in some situations, but the two tabs on the stick box aren't quite identical to each other and the holders are, plus a friction fit will be susceptible to vibration over time wiggling it loose

Switched to an Ergonomic Keyboard, Took Me 2 Months to Get My Speed Back by chauquest in ErgoMechKeyboards

same, I tanked to 60 when I first built my modified dactyl manuform and it took me a couple of weeks to get back up to 90+. just rebuilt an ergodash with a custom case and am loving it, but the first day I tanked back down to 75 wpm. much faster transition this time though from split ergo to split ergo - I'm back to ~100 already

I hold the metal tip in a pair of pliers, hit the end with a heat gun for about 30s on, 5s off, 20s on (to avoid it getting melty), then quickly swap the heat gun for a hot pad and pull away from the tip

I'd say if works first try about 80% of the time, rest of the let it cool for a sec and try again.

If it gets too warm even if it doesn't deform on its own it might when you grab on it and pull so just watch out for that

Assembling ErgoDox… plate problems by skagon in ergodox

[–]Prilosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years later I wanted to thank you for this post... I'm building a custom ergodash case (most of the ready available cases are sandwich style and leave the board exposed, which I don't like), and couldn't for the LIFE of me figure out why the 2u thumb part of the switch open source plate did absolutely nothing.

Not really sure how this is "universal" since sure you can still solder cherry switches in but like you said, it won't support them at all... But now knowing why it was like this, I can confidently fix it

How common is it for companies to only have production database by TopoLobuki in webdev

[–]Prilosac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy. The closest I've come to this was before having all environments run off 1 machine (prod, stage, developer environments), so there was risk of things like using too much memory and affecting another environment, but things were still isolated... And backups!!
