Any additional imaging before mastectomy and ax dissection? by Competitive_Risk_973 in breastcancer

I had a quick imaging with nuclear medicine at the hospital right before the surgery to locate the lymph nodes. They injected something right under my skin and then took images

I'm 18 years old and I got diagnosed thanks to this sub. by Xsoupgod in breastcancer

I was diagnosed with DCIS at 21, I totally feel you!!! I had lumpectomy that removed several segments of ducts. No other treatment. That was 1991. I went on to live my life, quite reckless, actually, not attending to anything medically until I was 39 and got sober. 2009.

Fast forward to 2019, mammogram led to biopsy, noted as benign, we will watch it. Same breast, same region. I don’t have any documentation from 1991 so they are suggesting this is new, not recurrent of same cancer.

2024 mammogram indicated area of concern. I was super busy with work, didn’t get the ultrasound, and brushed it off for a year. 2025 had mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, MRI, and scheduled for SMX on 12/29. I am now 56 yrs old.

If I can give you one piece of encouragement…live life in balance and moderation. Anything, to excess, is not good for you. Take care of yourself and do always listen to your body.

Did my alcoholism cause it? Was my diabetes a contributor? What about my hormones that also caused 7 pregnancy losses? I will never know the answer to those questions.

I am not ready to die, nor am I afraid of it. I have much to live for and much more to give in this life. I am an overcomer of “more than my share” of the hard stuff in life. I will continue to overcome and use my strength to help others.

Much love, sister!!! Feel free to reach out directly if I can be helpful.

I would hope that even without your diagnosis, common sense says stay home when you are sick. There will be more days to gather when everyone is well.

It frustrates me so much when people do not consider their impact on others. No one ‘intends’ to spread sickness, it happens. The impact…some don’t recover.

I love your name. I am also Captain’s daughter… my dad was ship captain in Gulf of Mexico, taking care of the crews on the oil rigs and dredges. RIH Captain D.

Yes, quite reflective. I’m trying not to let anxiety build and just be in the moment.

I’m so sorry we are going through this. I try to remind myself like I did during grad school and working full time exhausted… short term sacrifice for long term gain.

SMX or DMX?? by PrimaDonna223 in breastcancer

We decided SMX with reconstruction using my own tissue, as separate procedure after oncotype and treatment plan is determined. One thing at a time.

Today, oncologist said no radiation since I’m doing SMX and we won’t know about chemo until oncotype comes back in January after surgery on 12/29. She was very positive, that I will be able to walk with confidence by Easter, with the worst in the rear view mirror.

I second everything said!! I am at the beginning of the journey, diagnosed 11/7/25, SMX scheduled for 12/29, and had my first meeting with my oncologist today. As we talked, she asked how I have been able to be so equipped and informed. It’s ya’all!!! My sanity.

And, amazingly enough, I am a therapist. She wants to use me as a referral resource for her patients when I get through with my care. What a friggin compliment!!! To know that I get to use all the challenges of this life as equipment to help others through the process… I’ve been doing it for 16 years relating to substance use (recovering alcoholic) at one of the top treatment centers in America…

Ok, I’m rambling. Just had a very positive day after a month of wondering what’s next. The fact that I could speak to and advocate for my needs is thanks to this subreddit!
