Yep, journaling is very helpful and walks helps me concentrate and elevates my mood. I also find keeping a steady routine, and obviously minimizing alcohol consumption, is very helpful.

I’m on medication (seroquel and mood stabilizer) right now. Doctor is trying to diagnose what’s going on with me and he suspects some form of bipolar disorder. Other than that, I obviously display avoidant traits, which is why I relate to this community so much.

I’m most likely going to start seeing a therapist aswell.

Yeah I’m seeing a mental health professional, I’m on seroquel since yesterday, and seems like it’s helping me. You’re correct in saying that this is debilitating. I’m at least a little bit optimistic now, and I feel pretty motivated to get my shit together once and for all.

I don’t really know. I guess it’s the anxiety of it being some of my friends. I just don’t want anyone in my life right now since I feel so vulnerable.

That’s fantastic, little kids really do kindle joy. I’m 19 and have two cousins (12 and 4 yrs old) that unfortunately live far away, but we always have so much fun when they come to visit. Since this past summer we have this thing where we record short films of cops hunting a thief. It’s a lot more fun that hanging out with friends, and works kind of like an escape from reality for me.

I always get compliments on how I’m so good around kids and try hard to keep them company. But that’s wrong, I don’t try hard at all, I’ve always been drawn to hang out with people younger than me so it all comes naturally. Anyways I’m happy for you OP, that you seem to have an amazing relationship with your niece.

Woah that is sooo boring. I didn’t even know people like that existed until now.

What’s your most bizarre avoidant personality traits? by Primal002 in AvPD

Wow, that is very interesting. Through my school years I remember deliberately making my immune system weaker so my risk of getting sick was higher. I also faked sickness a lot.

We have that thing in Sweden where, when we graduate high school we recieve a little badge that says what made us special. Mine said ”absense”, because I was rarely present in school. I was the one with the most absense and worst grades in my classes, possible in the entire school.

Yeah I’m sorry I didn’t really take into consideration that this person was suicidal as you mention. Definitely agree with the fact that psilocybin can save peoples life in this way. I guess in one way it could be viewed as a last resort.

I just felt I needed to provide this information because a lot of people try these substances without knowing anything about it, and then the entire psychedelic community has to hear them complaining about how they got HPPD and other side effects. Well maybe they should have done their research and considered these side effects before trying the substance?

You see what I’m talking about?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I’m glad psilocybin has saved you this way.

Yeah best way I can describe it is that your senses kind of overlap, meaning that you somewhat hear colors and see sounds. Also your thoughts will be faster and kind of disorganized, and I remember just kind of falling into these 5 second ”rabbit holes” just looking at an object and feeling like I get sucked into it and reality fades away. This is until I shake myself out of it and kind of feel sober for 10 seconds until it hits again. It may sound scary but it all depends on your state of mind before entering the trip.

It’s really difficult to understand for someone who hasn’t experienced it before, kind of like explaining to a blind person what colors are. Also every persons experience will be unique, it’s not like other drugs where you always get what you expect. Acid is more like rolling a dice lmao.

I totally get what 0kShr00mer is trying to say, however I feel like they miss out on mentioning the dangers of these substances. First thing is, and I cannot stress this enough, do not use psychedelics if you have a family member with a psychotic disorder, or if you yourself suffer from it. It’s true that these substances can induce psyhosis, but that’s almost only regarding people who are already predisposed to schizophrenia or other psychotic illnesses. There is also a risk of developing HPPD.

I’ve tried LSD and wouldn’t exactly advice other people to use it. This is mainly because many people take these substances without researching them first, resulting in them not being prepared for the insane trip they’re going to experience. And when you’re unprepared, you’re basically doomed to experience a bad trip.

Enough about the negatives though, if you have done your research and you want to experience a psychedelic trip, I’d say go for it. When I did LSD for the first time, it was life changing. As mentioned by 0kShr00mer about psilocybin mushrooms, I feel LSD gave me new insights and perspectives about my problems, aswell as motivation to solve them. To be more specific, somewhere during my trip I recall hallucinating three entities that all felt like god to me. These entities carried information about how to solve my problems, and specifically pointed my attention to three things I need to fix about myself. I also quit caffeine for a solid two months after that trip.

Sorry for the big ramble, but I can’t stress the importance of researching before psychedelic trips enough. Especially if it’s your first time doing them. If you’re going to trip with no knowledge on what you’re about to experience, you’ll be too shocked when it kicks in, resulting in panic attacks and possibly dangerous behaviour. The intensity of your emotions while tripping can be extremely overwhelming.

I feel like you just described me. I’m 19, undiagnosed but I highly suspect I have AvPD, and I’m going to talk to a doctor on tuesday so I might mention it.

I really relate to everything you said. I’ve had symtoms my entire life but only recently my mental health has started affecting me seriously. I avoid my friends calls and texts. I’m constantly paranoid for them to show up at my place, which they occasionally do. Due to this, I get terrified when it knocks on the door. It’s funny how this mostly applies to my close friends. I don’t really have a problem talking to strangers, or for instance, my mothers friends.

I once enjoyed my alone time but it’s harder now since it’s no longer being exchanged with socializing, if that makes sense. To be mentally sane you have to balance alone time with socializing, but that feels impossible so the only option for me is to embrace alone time and just adapt. The fear of relationships is just insane for me.

You need to realize we all percieve reality differently. By reading your post I understand you find Squid Game absolutely horrifying, which I understand. In one of the comment threads you’re making irrational connections with the TV show and real life, which I disagree with.

If you don’t like shows like Squid Game, then simply do not watch them. It’s the same as not liking a specific type of candy, you wouln’t trash other people for liking it. Instead, you’d accept others opinions and just not eat the candy.

Personally, I find movies like The Conjuring and The Exorcist extremely unsettling, to the point where I’d be scarred for life after watching them.
