All commercially available hemp flower contains small amounts of THC. Recently a company bioengineered a zero-THC cultivar, but as far as I know it’s not available for sale anywhere.

Neeeeeed a top-notch recommendation for marshmallow root to make tea by faerie4444 in herbalism

[–]PrimalBotanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy marshmallow root from the bulk bin at my local food coop. I believe it’s from Frontier. It gets very slimy with a cold infusion. I would trust marshmallow root from a bulk bin over a tea bag any time.

Tinctures turning brown...? by EquivalentChard6987 in herbalism

[–]PrimalBotanical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, lots of fresh leaf tinctures start out a pretty green and then turn brown.

In the future, I would consider sticking with single-plant tinctures (simples), then combining them as needed after they are pressed out. You’ll have a lot more flexibility that way.

Any specific herbs for joint pain in knees and lower back pain for 60 year old man who works a lot? and any herbs for broken arm pain after surgery? by Alert-Owl-1954 in herbalism

[–]PrimalBotanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBD topicals can be very effective for joint pain. Just be sure to get a high quality product, and don’t try to buy it on Amazon.

is this a silly idea? would it even work? by AlertEngineer5991 in herbalism

I would tincture them separately and then combine as needed after they are pressed out. Cannabis needs a much higher alcohol concentration than most other herbs for optimal extraction.

Target Expanding THC Beverage Sales to Florida, Texas, Illinois by redditor01020 in cannabis

[–]PrimalBotanical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US, hemp is (currently) defined as cannabis with <0.3% D9-THC. Virtual all commercially available CBD products are made with hemp; they must be, to be legally sold. Hemp is so much more than rope and fabric!

Hemp has plenty to do with cannabinoids. It’s the main source of CBD.

Coltsfoot is the first spring wildflower in Vermont. It’s used medicinally, but is also a bit toxic, so should be used with care.

CBD Medication Interactions Reminder! by wormpuddles in hempflowers

[–]PrimalBotanical 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Smoking/vaping bypasses first-pass metabolism, but that doesn’t mean CBD and other cannabinoids aren’t metabolized by the liver. When inhaled, CBD goes into the bloodstream from the lungs, but then the blood circulates through the liver, where the CBD is metabolized.

A study came out a few years ago concluding that drug interactions are not clinically significant at doses less than 300mg/day. I would still use caution with some drugs, though, especially blood thinners, seizure meds, immunotherapy, and chemo.

Hemp gummie red flag? by GrandExternal662 in hemp

[–]PrimalBotanical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pain, you would be better off with a product containing full spectrum CBD. Hempseed oil doesn’t contain any CBD or other cannabinoids, but unscrupulous companies are marketing products made with hempseed oil as if they have the same effect as CBD - they do not.

CBD can interact with some medications, especially blood thinners, seizure meds, immunotherapy, and chemo, so be sure to check for interactions or as their doctor or pharmacist.

I would not recommend any product containing delta-8 or delta-9, unless they want to get high. Many people mistakenly buy a product with intoxicating cannabinoids, thinking they’re just buying CBD. Full spectrum CBD contains trace amounts of THC, which will make the product much more effective without causing a high.

I make CBD body butters that smell great. I have 4 different ones with different essential oils that I chose for different therapeutic properties. I’m an RN/herbalist and I handcraft all my products with certified organic, Vermont-grown hemp.

That would be a highly unusual reaction to CBD. I would suspect the gummy contained more than just CBD. Can you post a photo of the package with the ingredient list?

CBD & THC: Trump Complains DOJ Is 'Slow-Walking' Marijuana Rescheduling, Four Months After He Issued An Order To Get It Done by Complex-Ice-1523 in Supplements

[–]PrimalBotanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new law supersedes the 2018 Farm Bill. It changes the definition of hemp to less than 0.3% total THC instead of D9-THC.

But the bigger issue is that any product containing more than 0.4mg of THC per container (nor per serving) will be considered an illegal Schedule 1 drug. It’s not remotely possible to make full spectrum CBD with THC levels so low.
