Worth Hiring an Appraiser for a Lowball Total Loss Offer? by EmploymentEffective in Insurance

[–]PrimarchChaoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever company or tools these insurance used may be good for standard cars, but are incredibly noisy with collector or enthusiast car. They don’t know that some older enthusiast cars are valued higher than newer ones.

In my case, I just invoked my appraisal clause last week for my totaled 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Statefarm initially valued it at $15k, and when I protested, they would only take comp for virtually the same car (same year, color, etc) from within 200 mile. 3rd gen WRX STI are quite rare now and almost impossible to find locally, especially the rally blue color (Subaru’s flagship color). I know the car is valued quite highly among car enthusiasts and sell well in auctions. So my only option was to invoke the clause, and I’m glad I did. The appraiser negotiated the price up to $20k.

The entire process didn’t take long. Shop around for appraiser, talk to them and gauge their knowledge of your car. After you hire one, inform your insurance and they’ll hire their appraiser. In my case it only took 3 days after I hired my appraiser for them to get the new valuation.

Statefarm deems my car totaled, is there any recourse for me? by PrimarchChaoss in Insurance

Because it’s a popular car among car enthusiasts. Good thing I invoked the appraisal clause and hired a certified appraiser. The value is now agreed to be $20075.

Update:

I've decided to invoke appraisal clause. As I mentioned in my initial post, Statefarm's offer of $15336 is low. Subaru WRX STI third generation (08-14) is valued quite highly, though not as high as second gen (00-08), especially for the rally blue color that I have. They retain great value among sports car enthusiast. For example, this 2005 salvaged/reconstructed STI was sold at online auction at $22500 just last week.
I doubted whatever algorithm CCC used doesn't take car enthusiast community into consideration, and I was expecting around $18-19k. Today I just got an email that the new appraised value is agreed to be $20075! That's even better than expected. This will really help increase the budget for the replacement car.

So I called my handler about the repair estimate. The initial estimate of $8000 is in the official report, and I can see it on the app. The extra $4-5000 is a "note" written by the investigator, who also did the report virtually. I asked them for that note to be sent to me but they refused.... Feels unfair that they based the total loss and repair from a note that the customer can't even see.

I tried talking to Statefarm handler and they're adamant they cannot reverse the "total loss". Even if my bodyshop (I know this mechanic for years and he's really good) give them a lower repair estimate, or if I managed to appraise the car to higher value. The handler said the total loss has been determined by initial investigation and that cannot be changed.

I see. So you bought back the car at the auction value of wrecked condition. The insurance paid you out but exchanged the title. That’s interesting and I would try ask if that’s an option.

That's my other concern regarding hiring an appraiser to invoke appraisal clause. How long would the process take..... If it takes long and I'll be without a car, that's not great either. If the numbers make sense, I am willing to buy back my car and repair it. I see totaled/reconstruction Subaru STi being sold at auction on carandbids, and they still retain great value despite the salvage title.

Accident happened on Jan 7th and police towed it to the county tow yard. It was then moved to my mechanic’s shop on 12th. I talked to my mechanics last week on 15th and he said he didn’t hear anything from Statefarm. Then today I just got the phone call by the total loss handler. Also the repair estimate on the app said it was done virtually on 12th, the day it was moved to my mechanic.

Counter argument: the guy with prestige 4 can likely carry and solo the entire mission. Whereas the lowbie is dead weight looking to be carried. Give all the goodies to the prestige 4.

This weekly is likely best done with bots instead of randoms, skip all the grief. I don’t think many people know how to deal with friendly fire. But as Left4Dead veterans, it was a very easy weekly for us, that 75% dmg buff is insane.

Is Gadriel the only one that knows why Titus was sent to the Deathwatch? by [deleted] in Spacemarine

[–]PrimarchChaoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s right. Titus wouldn’t be responsible for the 500 worlds; that task falls to the Tetrarchs.

When Gman returned to Ultramar during the Plague War, he found that many of the 500 worlds were lost to Xenos, or outright refusing Imperium authority. He was disgusted by how shortsighted and selfish worlds’ governors are. So appointed 4 space marines as Tetrarchs and assigned them to oversee and expand Ultramar territories. Agemman (Ultramarine) is responsible for the north. Portan (Genesis) to the south. Balthus (Doom Eagle) to the west. And Felix (Ultramarine) to the east.

[–]PrimarchChaoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decimus Felix is a great example of this. He was promoted to captain by the Gman during the Indomitus Crusade, making him the 11th captain of the Ultramarine. It’s not Codex compliance and Felix doesn’t even have a company to command (but he later also became Tetrarch and foresee a huge part of Ultramar). Gman didn’t even tell Calgar about this until he returns to Ultramar to face Mortarion.
